Bengaluru, June , 2026: On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, Zepto has announced strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening food safety standards across its operations and the broader food ecosystem. The company has partnered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to launch a national Startup Challenge focused on food safety innovation and has also entered into a partnership with the Food Industry Capacity & Skill Initiative (FICSI) for a training programme for Zepto’s internal audit and quality assurance workforce.
Together, the initiatives reinforce Zepto's commitment to building a robust culture of food safety, compliance, transparency, and continuous improvement across its operations.
As part of the collaboration with DPIIT, Zepto has launched a national Startup Challenge inviting innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups to develop technology-led solutions that can strengthen food safety practices across the food value chain. The challenge will focus on AI and automation led solutions for food safety and quality monitoring systems, and other innovations that can improve food safety outcomes at scale.
The initiative aims to provide emerging startups with a platform to showcase solutions that address critical challenges in food quality, monitoring, and compliance, while contributing to the development of a stronger and safer food ecosystem.
Additionally, Zepto has partnered with FICSI for a training programme for internal audit and quality assurance workforce to equip them with the technical knowledge, auditing competence, and regulatory awareness required to manage food safety across Zepto’s multi-tier fulfilment network, spanning Mother Hubs and Delivery hubs.
Speaking on the initiatives, Vikas Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, Zepto said: "Food safety is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Sunil Marwah, Chief Executive Officer, FICSI added: "Independent assessments and continuous improvement are critical elements of a strong food safety culture. Through this partnership, we look forward to supporting Zepto in strengthening operational practices and driving higher standards of compliance across its network."
The announcements build on Zepto's ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety awareness and capability across its operations through initiatives such as Zepto Sankalp, the company's food safety programme for food handlers and operational teams. Supported by training, innovation, and regulatory engagement, Zepto continues to embed food safety practices across sourcing, storage, handling, and delivery operations.
Through these initiatives, Zepto aims to contribute towards a safer, more transparent, and innovation-driven food ecosystem while continuing to strengthen trust and accountability across the quick commerce sector.
