IndiGo appoints William Walsh as Chief Executive Officer
/IndiGo has announced the appointment of William “Willie” Walsh as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 3, 2026. Walsh, who is currently serving as Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will step into the role after completing his tenure there at the end of July.
Walsh brings decades of leadership experience in global aviation, having previously served as CEO of Aer Lingus, British Airways, and International Airlines Group (IAG). He is widely recognized for his expertise in restructuring, mergers, and operational transformation, and is expected to guide IndiGo through its next phase of growth in India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
IndiGo’s Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta described Walsh as “an exceptional global aviation leader with a stellar track record,” while Managing Director Rahul Bhatia emphasized his rare combination of global perspective and operational expertise. Both expressed confidence that his leadership will strengthen IndiGo’s position as India’s largest airline.
In his remarks, Walsh said he was excited to join IndiGo, praising the airline’s strong foundation, vision, and people. He highlighted his commitment to building a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, positioning IndiGo to thrive amid rapid changes in the global aviation industry.
