The focus remains on balancing growth with environmental responsibility through measures such as energy efficiency, resource conservation, community engagement, and more mindful guest experiences, with the aim of supporting long-term ecological and local resilience.

Hospitality at a Crossroads: The Challenge of Overtourism

As the global hospitality sector witnesses unprecedented growth, it also stands at a critical crossroads. The surge in travel demand, while a positive indicator of economic revival, has brought with it the mounting challenge of overtourism, placing immense pressure on natural ecosystems, local communities, and infrastructure. Destinations once celebrated for their pristine beauty are increasingly grappling with environmental degradation, resource strain, and unchecked development.

Earth Day as Action: Turning Intent into Impact

This Earth Day, RHG hotels across India are taking significant steps to translate intent into action, with a series of initiatives designed to foster awareness, reduce environmental impact, and inspire both guests and communities.

It is also implementing minimum-pressure water usage across operations to reduce consumption while maintaining service standards.

Radisson Blu Ludhiana: Advancing Energy Transformation

Radisson Blu Ludhiana is reducing its environmental impact through operational changes, including a shift from diesel to electric boilers and heat pumps for laundry and hot water. This transition has lowered diesel use by around 200 litres per day, with notable cost savings.

Further measures include improved efficiency in laundry operations, plans to introduce solar energy, and ongoing efforts towards ISO 14005 certification to support structured environmental management.

Building a Sustainable Future for Hospitality

As the hospitality industry continues to grow, the path forward must be defined by responsibility, innovation, and collaboration. Through its sustainable initiatives and long-term strategy, Radisson Hotel Group reaffirms its commitment to shaping a more sustainable future, where tourism not only thrives but also preserves the very destinations it celebrates.

EARTH DAY, i.e., ‘Invest in Our Planet’ and to encourage the community to act towards a greener future, in line with the hotel’s commitment to making a positive impact on the environment. While issues such as climate change and a decrease in oxygen levels in the atmosphere are a matter of concern, trees are said to be holding the entire planet together by providing enough oxygen to all living creatures. As part of the Earth Day 2023 activities, the hotel distributed 101 saplings to guest and Associates. A custom-made DIY germination kit, curated by ‘Book a Workshop’, was handed out for guest who were travelling and couldn’t carry the pot.

This kit had a pot, soil, and seeds with a QR code on how to start plant parenting at the comfort of their home or office. The tree selected for the activity are native and draught tolerant species that enhances biodiversity of the property and a healthy mix of fruit bearing, flowering and trees that produce the most oxygen, such as Neem, Arjun, and Amla. The hotel also organized a plastics cleaning drive to address the hazardous impact of plastic waste on the environment.

Moreover, the hotel is also promoting sustainable fashion by encouraging hotel associates to upcycle and donate their clothes to the needy.

The hotel advocated for simple yet effective ways such as ‘Five Things to Consider to Reduce Single-use Plastic & Carbon Emission’ so that individuals can contribute to environmental protection.
