BCIHMCT Strengthens Strategic Ties with IHCL Through Collaborative Visit to Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi

In a move that signals a deepening partnership between academia and industry, a delegation from the Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BCIHMCT) recently visited the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. The visit came at the personal invitation of Mr. Tuhar Abrol, Director of Learning & Development for the IHCL Group’s Delhi NCR L&D Hub.

Hosted by Dr. Anmol Ahluwalia, Area Director – Operations and General Manager, alongside Mr. Abrol and Ms. Paramjeet Dias, Learning & Development Manager, the BCIHMCT team was given a firsthand look at the hotel’s recent renovations and engaged in a series of forward-looking discussions aimed at aligning educational outcomes with evolving industry needs.

The visit served as a springboard for exploring collaborative opportunities that can prepare students for the future of hospitality. Key among the discussions was the proposal by Prof. R.K. The meeting concluded with a moment of pride for the institute as Dr. Ahluwalia acknowledged the contributions of BCIHMCT students currently undergoing industrial training at the hotel, specifically naming Mr. Tushar Manchanda, Ms. Soumya Ahuja, and Mr. Yashit Goyal.

This visit marks another step forward in the growing collaboration between BCIHMCT and the IHCL Group, reinforcing a shared mission to develop future-ready professionals equipped to thrive in a dynamic and inclusive hospitality landscape.

Marriott International Announces Global Launch of New Regional Collection Brand: Series by Marriott™

Company Signs Founding Deal with Concept Hospitality Private Limited in India to Affiliate The Fern Brands with Series by Marriott

Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) today announced the global launch of its new collection brand for the midscale and upscale lodging segments—Series by Marriott™—as the company continues to expand its lodging offerings around the world. Series by Marriott is expected to expand Marriott’s global presence by bringing well-established regionally created brands and hotels that champion consistent quality and service into the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. Series by Marriott will offer guests comfortable stays in more places and provide regional owners access to the benefits of Marriott’s platforms, including the company’s award-winning Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, all while maintaining their portfolio’s independent identity.

Series by Marriott marks its initial launch through a founding deal with Concept Hospitality Private Limited (CHPL) in India, a key growth market for Marriott. Established in 1996 by Param Kannampilly, CHPL, is one of India’s leading hotel management companies with a portfolio of six brands and over 100 hotels operating in 90 locations. Under the strategic agreement between CHPL and Marriott, CHPL's flagship brands—The Fern, The Fern Residency, and The Fern Habitat—will affiliate with Series by Marriott on an exclusive basis across India and Marriott will make a small equity investment in CHPL. The Fern portfolio is currently comprised of 84 open properties and 31 executed pipeline deals, totaling 115 properties and approximately 8,000 rooms. Fern properties are expected to join Marriott’s portfolio in India over time following discussions with the third-party hotel owners and execution of long-term franchise agreements with those owners. CG Hospitality, the hospitality division of the multi-national conglomerate CG Corp Global, is the majority stakeholder in CHPL.

“Series by Marriott furthers Marriott’s commitment to delivering lodging offerings in the right place at the right price with basics done well,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International. “Creating a new, regional collection brand will further Marriott’s reach among value-conscious travelers, provide additional choice for our existing Marriott Bonvoy members and guests, and offer more affiliation opportunities for local owners."

“We are thrilled to launch Series by Marriott through our founding deal with CHPL. This deal will help meaningfully expand Marriott’s leading position in India, a key market for the company.  We see this multi-unit conversion deal as a strong foundation as we look to accelerate growth of the Series by Marriott collection in additional markets around the world. The Fern portfolio throughout India is highly regarded and CHPL’s commitment to operational excellence and meeting the needs of regional travelers embodies the spirit of the Series by Marriott brand,” said Capuano.

“India is one of Marriott’s most dynamic and strategic markets, making it the ideal launchpad for Series by Marriott,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International. “Our founding deal with CHPL allows us to scale purposefully with a trusted local brand that resonates with regional travelers. This collaboration combines CHPL’s deep market knowledge with Marriott’s global platform—broadening access to quality hospitality and unlocking strong growth potential across the country. Launching Series by Marriott in India reflects the region’s critical role in our long-term growth strategy.”

“Through our majority stake in CHPL, we’ve nurtured The Fern brands as standard-bearers for eco-sensitive, high-quality hospitality in India. Being part of Series by Marriott will allow us to amplify our reach. The Fern brands are expected to benefit not only from the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program and global distribution systems, but also from strategic growth opportunities,” said Dr. Binod Chaudhary, Chairman of CG Corp Global.

“We are thrilled to partner with the world's largest hospitality company in driving a new era of growth in India’s midscale segment. Our vision is to unlock the immense potential of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, as well as lesser-known destinations across India that are rich in culture, heritage, and opportunity. This strategic collaboration underscores our commitment to expanding access to quality hospitality, fostering local economies, and meeting the rising demand for sustainable, comfortable, and accessible stays in emerging markets,” said Param Kannampilly, Chairman, Concept Hospitality Private Limited.

A Series of Hotels: Regionally Created, Globally Connected

Series by Marriott is designed to deliver a simple and approachable experience for travelers with a focus on fundamentals and well-executed basics. Hotels in the portfolio will offer quality and value with clean, comfortable rooms, free Wi-Fi, daily coffee or tea, with breakfast, fitness centers and meetings and event spaces available at certain properties. Hotels will reflect the regions and customers they serve while delivering Marriott’s global standards for safety and cleanliness. As part of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, members staying at Series by Marriott properties will be able to earn and redeem points and enjoy member benefits.

Wedding Hospitality 2.0: How Tech is Transforming Guest Experiences by Anjali Tolani, Vice President – Celebrations at Tamarind Global

The wedding industry has always been about creating magical, unforgettable experiences, but with technology evolving, hospitality in weddings is now reaching new heights. Today, technology is reshaping the way couples interact with their guests, making celebrations more immersive and efficient. These insights are contributed by Ms. Anjali Tolani, Vice President of Celebrations at Tamarind Global, who highlights how weddings are now entering a new era where tradition meets innovation. Here’s how tech is revolutionizing guest experiences at modern weddings.

1. Smart Invitations

The first touchpoint of any wedding experience begins with the invitation and technology has overtaken even this age-old tradition. Digital wedding invites have become more sophisticated than just an e-card. AI-powered invitations now include personalized RSVP tracking, QR codes that provide real-time updates on venue details, accommodation arrangements and even interactive maps for easy navigation. Some couples are even using chatbots to answer guest queries, eliminating the hassle of back-and-forth coordination. With sustainability at the forefront, tech-driven invitations also reduce paper waste and create a flawless communication channel between the couple and their guests.

2. Live Streaming for Remote Guests

With destination weddings and intimate gatherings becoming more popular, live streaming has been a game-changer for guests who can’t physically attend. High-definition video streaming ensures that loved ones from around the world don’t miss out on the special moments. Weddings now have professionally managed live streams with multiple camera angles, interactive chats and real-time engagement features. Some couples even send pre-event packages to virtual guests, complete with wedding favours and snacks, so they can celebrate from afar while feeling included in the festivities.

3. Augmented Reality (AR) Entertainment

Photo booths have been a wedding staple for years, but now, Augmented Reality (AR) is taking guest entertainment to the next level. Imagine stepping into a photo booth that transports you to the couple’s favorite travel destination or a fairytale-inspired backdrop, all through AR projections! Guests can choose themed filters, add custom animations and instantly share their images on social media. Couples are using AR to create 3D projections of their love story, interactive guest books where attendees can leave video messages and even virtual dance performances that blend real and digital elements. It’s a fun and futuristic way to engage guests while making every moment picture-perfect.

4. Digital Guest Engagement

With social media playing a massive role in modern weddings, couples are now incorporating interactive elements to enhance guest engagement. AI-generated animations that turn guest photos into digital sketches or GIFs are becoming popular wedding mementos. Live social media walls display real-time posts from guests using a unique wedding hashtag, creating a delightful feed of shared memories. Some weddings even feature AI-driven quizzes or games tailored to the couple’s story, making guests feel more connected to the celebration. Beyond social sharing, personalised wedding apps are also seen as a one-stop hub for itineraries, seating charts, special announcements and digital thank-you notes after the event.

5. Smart Venue Transformations

Technology is now an integral part of wedding décor and ambiance. Projection mapping is revolutionising how spaces are transformed, walls and ceilings can shift from serene beach sunsets to celestial galaxies with the flick of a switch. Smart LED lighting allows couples to adjust the mood of the venue in real time, ensuring every moment has the perfect glow. Some weddings are even incorporating temperature control systems that adjust automatically based on guest comfort. This fusion of aesthetics and technology creates a truly immersive atmosphere which will leave your guests in awe.

Technology is an essential part of elevating guest experiences. These innovations are ensuring that guests feel more included, entertained and engaged than ever before. As weddings continue to evolve, the integration of smart solutions will help streamline logistics and make celebrations more interactive and memorable.

Why Hospitality Assets Are the New Economic Growth Drivers Mr. Sandeep Ahuja, Global CEO, Atmosphere Living

In the ever-changing landscape of today’s global economy, hospitality properties have become high-performance, growth-driving, and resilience-building strategic assets. Previously considered peripheral to main sectors, hotels, resorts, branded residences, and experience properties are now the focal points of investment portfolios, city planning, and national development strategies—particularly in the post-pandemic recovery phase.

World travel and tourism are poised to generate $9.5 trillion in output for the global economy in 2025, nearly 9.2% of international GDP—essentially back to where it was at the peak before the pandemic. This sharp rebound has helped stimulate renewed optimism towards hospitality-driven model investment and redisposed the sector as an imperative driver of jobs and infrastructure, a report issued in March of 2025 by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts.

In India, the branded residence market is expected to expand by 60% by 2027 with 90 new projects lined up in the pipeline according to a January 2025 report by Noesis Capital Advisors. The segment is expected to double globally by 2031, reflecting a shift in demand towards lifestyle real estate supported by hotel-standard services and international brands.

Additionally, hospitality properties are now being created as part of mixed-use environments that provide long-term sustainability. Metropolises such as Dubai, Singapore, and Mumbai are experiencing a trend of integrated developments where hotels form the foundation of larger urban structures integrating residential, retail, and entertainment areas. This concept is not tourism-focused—it’s about building urban hubs that bring capital and culture.

The investment returns are just as strong. In their peak markets, branded hospitality developments receive 30–70% premiums on non-branded alternatives. According to a report by Finance Middle East in April 2025, Dubai alone is leading the world with more than 140 branded residence schemes, evincing investor demand for hospitality-backed property.

The industry also generates direct and indirect jobs. For every $1 million in hospitality facilities invested, approximately 15–20 jobs are created, covering construction, design, logistics, operations, and services. The chain reaction renders hospitality a vital element of inclusive economic growth. In addition, new hospitality developments are coming in line with ESG objectives—embedding sustainability in operations, digital guest experiences, and renewable energy infrastructure, thus enhancing their attractiveness to institutional investors.

Overall, hospitality assets are no longer rooms and reservations. They are the convergence of real estate, experience, technology, and international mobility. Nations which adopt hospitality-led development are investing in long-term economic resilience—driving tourism, city innovation, employment, and international competitiveness all at once.

IBIS India Goes Green With A Nationwide Tree Plantation Drive 🌱

Over 1,500 saplings. 25 hotels. 2,000+ employees. One powerful Earth Day.

IBIS India Goes Green With A Nationwide Tree Plantation Drive 🌱

This Earth Day, ibis India didn’t just talk the talk—they planted the roots. Across 25 hotels nationwide, ibis teams came together on April 22nd to plant over 1,500 saplings, putting their green hearts into action with a movement that reached from Mumbai to Kochi, Jaipur to Hyderabad.

This wasn’t just a feel-good gesture. It was a bold, tangible step in a world where climate extremes are no longer rare—they’re reality. With 2023 recorded as India’s second warmest year since 1901, ibis India’s tree drive isn’t symbolic. It’s strategic, necessary, and deeply human.

“This is who we are,” said Tejus Jose, Director of Operations at ibis & ibis Styles India. “Sustainability is built into the ibis blueprint—not just as a buzzword, but as a daily way of working. This Earth Day, we wanted to take that purpose beyond policies and plant it into the ground—literally.”

From hotel courtyards to community parks, ibis employees rolled up their sleeves and dug in—some partnering with local civic bodies, others creating micro-forests within their premises. The initiative involved over 2,000 employees, showing how a people-first culture can drive planet-positive change.

Beyond the tree drive, ibis India is walking the sustainability talk with initiatives like:

  • The Green Tourism Pledge—encouraging guests and staff to travel lighter and greener

  • Energy and water conservation systems

  • Responsible waste management

  • Community beach clean-ups and civic-led eco-drives

Each effort is a brick in a much bigger vision: a hospitality industry that thrives without costing the Earth.

“Whether it’s planting trees or reducing plastic, our focus is on impact that lasts,” Jose added. “We believe the hospitality of the future is as sustainable as it is stylish—and deeply local.”

With its Earth Day tree drive, ibis India proves that big change can start with small actions—especially when done together.

MoU Signed Between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living to Provide Youth Empowerment and Skill Development Programs for Students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, and The Art of Living (TAOL) to provide youth empowerment and skill development programs for students. The primary objective of this MoU is to establish a collaborative partnership between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living in order to promote health, awareness, and stress management practices among students.

The initiative also aims to train students in aspects related to “Art of Etiquette,” enabling them to receive holistic, multidisciplinary, and value-based education through TAOL’s well-tested and proven student development programs. This collaboration is designed to foster the integrated development of all human faculties—intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional, and moral.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi; Dr. Alok Aswal, Head of Department, IHM Ranchi; and Mrs. Riya Tyal.

Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi, stated that in today’s highly competitive era, technical and professional competence alone is not sufficient. A student’s holistic development—mental balance, self-awareness, commitment to ethical values, and sensitivity towards society—is what truly shapes a successful and well-rounded individual. He further emphasized that this agreement between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living will serve as a powerful step in that direction. It will not only strengthen the students’ inner confidence but also inspire them to become better human beings, embodying the values of service, leadership, and compassion.

“Our institution has always viewed education not merely as an academic process, but as a continuous journey of life-building,” he said. “By collaborating with a globally active organization like The Art of Living, we are making this journey even more meaningful and impactful.”

The Art of Living is a charitable trust that is bringing transformation across India through its various programs. It implements a wide range of service projects aimed at uplifting and empowering individuals, families, and communities so that the full potential of human life can be realized. Its mission is to help people—both in urban and rural India—lead stress-free lives and empower them to become agents of change, working towards reducing poverty, suffering, and disease even at the grassroots level.

Marriott International Announces Strategic Agreement with PathSpot, an Innovative Real-Time Hand Hygiene Management System and Safety Operations Suite

Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) today announced it has entered into a strategic agreement with technology company PathSpot Technologies, Inc., the creator of a real-time hygiene management and digital kitchen system that protects against the threat and spread of illness with a handwashing validation system and equipment monitoring technology. As Marriott continues its legacy of hospitality industry innovation, including food and beverage operations, it is the first hospitality company to make PathSpot technology available to the company’s portfolio of over 9,300 properties across the U.S. and Canada, Caribbean and Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe and the Middle East.

“As the world’s leading global hospitality company with over 10,000 food and beverage operations, $7 billion in sales, and 53 Michelin stars across more than 30 leading brands globally, Marriott is focused on the health and safety of the millions of guests that our properties serve each day,” said Stephen Toevs, Vice President of Culinary Operations for Marriott International. “Our collaboration with PathSpot allows Marriott to offer properties cost-effective technology that monitors food safety procedures more efficiently and effectively while empowering associates to better meet the needs of customers."

Using a network of sensors plus visible, audible, and electronic cues, PathSpot’s technology is engineered to immediately notify associates utilizing the scanners when invisible contamination is detected, and additional handwashing is needed. By utilizing PathSpot’s Hand Scanner technology and logging system, Marriott properties have the ability to more efficiently adhere to strict operating procedures while streamlining handwashing record-keeping and monitoring.

All Marriott properties that have installed PathSpot hand scanner technology have also implemented the PathSpot SafetySuite. The interconnected hardware and software tools are helping properties modernize, digitize, and elevate back-of-house operations to create improvements in health and safety standards, like PathSpot’s real time temperature monitoring, which consistently records temperatures in refrigerators and freezers and alerts associates of any temperature-related issues that may impact food quality.

Implementation of PathSpot’s Hand Scanners and SafetySuite have helped properties save an estimated two to eight hours per day in back-of-house monitoring and logging, freeing up associates to focus on guest-facing efforts and allowing the properties to create efficiencies in maintenance and engineering costs as well as to reduce food waste and energy consumption.

"Marriott is an industry leader in its dedication to health and safety across its portfolio,” said Christine Schindler, CEO and Co-Founder of PathSpot. “By offering PathSpot's cost-effective food safety and operations technology to its properties, Marriott is promoting consistency, quality, efficiency, in their food and beverage operations while focusing on sustainability. We are grateful to work alongside Marriott as they take another proactive step to strengthen their rigorous safety standards. Our contamination-detection technology helps prevent foodborne illness before it can spread, ensuring a higher level of food safety for everyone they serve.”

Marriott’s commitment to innovation began with its founding nearly a century ago. Guided by the company’s core value of embracing change with an unwavering focus on its associates, guests, owners and franchisees, today, Marriott is driving transformation in the hospitality industry through innovative investing, research and development, creative collaborations, and piloting initiatives to test and learn at scale. In addition to the company’s strategic agreement, Marriott also participated in a minority equity investment in PathSpot. To learn more about PathSpot’s technology, visit https://pathspot.com.

Slurp, Savour and Support! Nostalgia’s Second Outlet in Pali Naka Focuses on Local Heritage, Community Collaboration, and a ‘Bring Your Own Fruit’ Concept

Nostalgia in Bandra is one of the few spots in Mumbai’s vibrant cafe landscape that takes you down memory lane. This cosy cafe in a heritage bungalow beautifully rekindled childhood memories, offered comfort and won the trust of anyone who walked in for a cup of coffee with their homely ambience. They are now launching a new outlet at Pali Naka with an altogether different concept. This time, the focus is on honouring Mumbai’s hyperlocal food heritage by weaving together their legacy of railway canteens with meaningful community collaborations and partnerships with local fruit vendors.

The new outlet is a takeaway spot for fresh beverages and ice-creams, along with savoury snacks from Kerala and Mangalore. A standout on their menu is Iced Filter Coffee and Filter Coffee Affogato, giving the beloved South Indian classic a cool twist. One of the highlights of the new outlet is a ‘Bring your own fruit’ concept where you can buy fresh fruits from the vendors right outside the outlet, walk in to have them on your softies and relish them on the go. To keep up with seasonal fruits, they have a soft-serve machine, so get fresh strawberries or mangoes chopped up on your ice-creams. Drop by, pick a fruit and have it customised for you on the frozen desserts. The idea is also to help the fruit vendors outside and grow together as a community.

This is not just an expansion but creating unique stories and concepts around Nostalgia while staying true to its roots. The new outlet pays tribute to founder Sinan Khader’s grandfather, who began his journey at a tea stall at Dadar Central railway station in the 1950s. Over time, he grew to manage 8 stalls in railway canteens, creating a legacy of enterprise. Tiny bits of his railway canteen legacy now lives on at Nostalgia - be it the bun maska or the savoury snacks from Kerala and Mangalore on the racks. It’s a coming together of family heritage to give back to the community.

The next time you’re craving freshly cut strawberries on your vanilla cup or want to revisit the familiar taste of Pallonjis in the summer swelter, stop by Nostalgia in Pali Naka. For an ice-cream run, don’t forget to pick your fruits from the local vendor outside. Sip, savour and smile!
