Hotel, Industry and Farmers Partnerships is Critical for Mutual Growth: Agriculture Secretary

New Delhi, November 2025: Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, today urged the hospitality industry to forge direct, structured, and long-term partnerships with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), calling such collaborations indispensable for ensuring consistent access to high-quality agricultural produce.

Addressing the FPO–Hospitality & Farmers’ Benefit Summit 2025, organised by the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), he emphasized that direct FPO–hotel linkages would form a powerful win-win model—boosting farmers’ incomes while enabling hotels to source premium, largely chemical-free ingredients.

Mr. Chaturvedi highlighted that India now hosts nearly 40,000 FPOs, many offering produce that naturally aligns with the hospitality sector’s rising demand for clean, safe, and sustainable food. He underscored that farmers continue to face an inverted pricing cycle—buying inputs at retail prices but selling produce at wholesale—an imbalance that can be corrected only through direct procurement partnerships with hotels.

Reiterating the Prime Minister’s call for stronger agriculture–industry collaborations, he noted that such partnerships would reduce middlemen, secure supply chains, raise farmer profitability, and enable the hospitality sector to expand GDP contribution and employment.

He added that the Government is promoting organic farming, GI-tagged products, and responsible tourism, citing the Kumarakom Model in Kerala as a benchmark for sustainable industry–community integration.

Speaking at the Summit, Mr. Suman Billa, Additional Secretary & Director General, Ministry of Tourism, said India needs a fast-tracked, structured farmer–hotel partnership architecture. Such a model, he noted, would accelerate the Government’s vision while uplifting rural livelihoods and strengthening tourism-driven value chains.

FHRAI President Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal reaffirmed the readiness of hotels to procure directly from FPOs—provided supply is consistent and quality-assured.
Mr. M. P. Bezbaruah, Secretary-General, HAI, reiterated the long-standing demand for granting infrastructure status to hotels to unlock broader development opportunities.

Industry leaders including Mr. Rahool Macarius (Wyndham Hotels & Resorts), Mr. Vishvapreet Singh Cheema (Lemon Tree Hotels), and Ms. Ankita Jaiswal (HRANI & UPHRA) also shared insights during the inaugural session.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks on behalf of FHRAI and HRANI, Mr. Garish Oberoi expressed gratitude to Chief Guest Shri Devesh Chaturvedi for his policy direction and to Guest of Honour Shri Suman Billa for reinforcing the tourism sector’s commitment to rural linkages.

He offered a special acknowledgment to Ms. Maninder Kaur DwivediAdditional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, whose strategic guidance, conceptual leadership, and cross-ministerial coordination shaped the Summit’s theme and made the collaboration possible.

He thanked distinguished guests

Mr. M. P. Bezbaruah, Secretary-General, HAI
Mr. Ajay Bakaya, Managing Director, Sarovar Hotels
Mr. Vishvapreet Singh Cheema, President, Lemon Tree Hotels
• Mr. Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director – Eurasia, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts

He also extended appreciation to Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, President FHRAI, and Ms. Ankita Jaiswal, Chairperson, Sustainable & Responsible Tourism (HRANI & UPHRA), for their leadership in bringing stakeholders together.

He thanked all ministries, FPO representatives, panellists, hospitality leaders, media, and the Le Meridien team for their support and participation. A focused technical session moderated by food writer Mr. Sourish Bhattacharyya delivered a clear operational blueprint for implementing a national farm-to-hospitality supply chain.

Key contributors included

Ms. Asha Sota (MoAFW),
Mr. Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya (Ekgaon Group),
Mr. Kirti Prasanna Mishra (Ecociate Consultants),
Mr. Ashwni Kumar Goela (Radisson Hotel Group),
Ms. Meena Bhatia (Le Meridien, New Delhi),
Chef Davinder Kumar and Chef Rakesh Sethi.

This framework marks one of India’s first aligned, multi-stakeholder national blueprints for integrating farmers with the hospitality supply chain.

A major highlight of the Summit was FHRAI’s curated exhibition featuring 50 FPOs from 17 states, showcasing an extensive range of regional and GI-tagged products — including yellow tea, Kashmiri mamra almonds, Himalayan saffron, makhana, black turmeric, forest honey, katarni rice, and Kandhamal haldi. The exhibition demonstrated India’s agricultural diversity and offered FPOs unprecedented visibility into institutional market requirements.

The inaugural session of the conclave will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Bolgatty Island,  Kochi on August 14 at 5 pm. The business meetings and exhibitions on the subsequent days  will be held at Le Meridien.

Recalling the government’s farsighted efforts to sustain and develop tourism sector during  the Covid Pandemic, Shri Riyas said ‘Tourism Department has since then done extensive

“Our efforts saw success as an estimated 1000 destination weddings were conducted in  various tourist locations across Kerala in the last year alone,” said Shri Riyas.

‘When we examine the post Covid era, the graph of tourist inflow in the state is higher than  global and national average, the minister noted.

Apart from the natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, panoramic beaches, back waters and a  host of other factors including world class hospitality, infrastructure and road connectivity  make Kerala a highly promising destination for wedding and MICE tourism, he said.

Other than five-star hotels and resorts, tourism department will focus on the development  of home stays, PWD rest houses and tourism guest houses to attract more tourists into the  state as part of the integrated development of the sector, he noted.

“With ‘Center Stage Kerala’ as the focal theme, the conclave seeks to leverage Kerala’s  reputation as one of world’s most-preferred destinations to ramp up MICE and Wedding  Tourism, said Jose Pradeep.

“The conference will bring together organizers of wedding, corporate conferences,  operators of large convention centers and tourism and hospitality service providers under  a single umbrella, for a calibrated promotion of the segment,” he added.

The meet will host training camps, innovative marketing strategies, logistics and  technology deployment in collaboration with large MICE and wedding companies, besides  using local supply chain.

The exhibition on the sidelines of the event will serve as a platform for businesses with  extensive experience in the MICE sector to showcase their products. Wedding planners,  luxury resorts, destination wedding venues, floral designers, photographers, catering units,  and bridal services providers will have the opportunity to display their talent.

The buyers coming for the conference will be taken to places across the state such as Kochi,  Munnar, Kumarakom, Kollam, Kovalam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Bekal.

It Takes Two (Chefs and Hearts!): Season Two at Baraabaru at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa

Savour the art of collaboration with second menu from Chef Hari Nayak and Chef Kishan Singh

A tantalising culinary sequel unfolds from April 2024 in the dramatic lagoon-top setting of Baraabaru at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa.

The partnership between Indian-born, New York-based Chef Hari Nayak and Baraabaru’s Head Chef Kishan Singh continues with a second menu, marking the next chapter in a collaborative journey that began in October 2023. This new menu not only showcases the rich cultural and culinary heritage of the Indian subcontinent and the Maldives but also ventures into new territories and passions.

The Nayak-Singh Baraabaru partnership is more than a marriage of ingredients and creativity; it’s an alignment of philosophies and passions. Visionary Chef Hari Nayak’s journey from the coastal city of Udipi, India, to the world’s most prestigious restaurants is reflected in his modern yet authentic interpretation of Indian gastronomy. Chef Kishan Singh is celebrated for his dedication to natural flavours and meticulous focus on fresh, authentic dishes, complementing Chef Nayak’s global perspective with deep-rooted local wisdom.

The new season Baraabaru menu expands its gaze beyond the Southern coastal recipes that defined Chef Hari’s India's childhood and the first menu, embracing a pan-Indian approach with a modern twist. "We're thrilled by the overwhelming reception from our guests who have recently dined at Baraabaru," comments Didier Jardin, General Manager at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa. "We're excited to elevate the dining experience even further with this new menu selection that features popular favourites as well as a selection of new dishes."

Signature starters include the Kokum Cured Tuna, which marries the tangy essence of Bhel Puri with creamy avocado in a refreshing cold salad. The Tandoori Grilled King Oyster Mushroom is a subtly spiced delicacy; its meaty texture the perfect canvas for the smokiness of the tandoor. The Kosha Mangsho, a Bengali-style slow-cooked mutton, is prepared with black masala, offering nuanced layers of intense yet comforting flavour. The Burrata Butter Chicken combines the charred smokiness of tandoor-baked chicken tikka with the velvet texture of melted burrata and a richly roasted tomato makhini sauce. The Lamb Shank Biryani is a majestic assembly of slow-cooked lamb with aromatic saffron-infused Keralan rice, sweet caramelised onions and the buttery crunch of toasted cashews.

Chef Hari Nayak’s favourite dish, the Ghee Roasted Baby Eggplant, pairs the creaminess of ghee-enriched eggplant with the warmth of red chilli and the tang of tamarind. Served with a feather-light Neer Dosa, this dish expresses the revered chef’s hallmark blend of classic flavours with modern flair. Chef Kishan Singh’s chosen dish is the Goan Peri Peri Prawn served with garlic pachadi and curry leaf oil.

As guests dine beneath Kuda Huraa’s endless skies, each bite explores the treasures of sea and land - and tells the tale of two chefs united in their passion for Indian flavours, fresh Maldivian ingredients, and the joy of creating together.

The new Nayak-Singh Baraabaru menu launches April 2, 2024.
