Awas Country Club Reimagines the Private Club as a Weekend Destination in Alibaug
/The country club was once defined by golf courses, tennis courts and a traditional clubhouse. Affluent Indians now want something broader, with wellness, dining, recreation, hospitality and social life brought together in one place, and Awas Country Club in Alibaug has been designed around that shift.
The new patrons-only private club sits within mature mango groves and landscaped greens on an intimate, low-density estate. It combines residence-style living with wellness, sport, dining and entertainment, and extends the six-decade hospitality legacy of Sun-n-Sand.
Wellness and recreation are central to the offering, with treatment rooms, Himalayan salt therapy, a gym, a yoga and Pilates studio, a golf simulator, and courts for pickleball, padel and tennis. Drift, the multi-cuisine restaurant, is complemented by private dining, a freeform pool, a private theatre, karaoke and a games room.
Patrons and their guests can stay on the estate in one of three five-bedroom villas, each measuring 4,700 sq ft, which pair the privacy of a second home with the service and amenities of a private club. The idea is that an entire day, or a full weekend, can unfold without leaving the grounds.
For hospitality operators, Awas reflects a wider move towards experience-led leisure, in which the modern country club becomes a private destination where wellness, hospitality, recreation and community meet.
