Scoot's Five Southeast Asia Picks for the Diwali Long Weekend

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has picked five short-haul Southeast Asian destinations for Indian travellers planning a trip over the four-day Diwali long weekend. The list runs from temple towns and night markets to islands and marine parks, all reached via the airline's Singapore network.

Scoot's Economy fares include a 10kg cabin baggage allowance, and checked baggage, meals and other extras can be added as needed.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

The northern Thai city pairs centuries-old temples with mountain scenery. Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh sit in the Old City, and khao soi, the region's signature curry noodle dish, is the local dish to try. Markets sell traditional handicrafts that reflect the city's Lanna heritage, and night markets are the place for street food.

Koh Samui, Thailand

Chaweng and the quieter Maenam Beach are the main beaches here, and the Big Buddha Temple is nearby. Inland are the Na Muang waterfalls, while boat trips to Ang Thong National Marine Park take in emerald water and limestone formations.

Langkawi, Malaysia

Beyond Pantai Cenang beach, the Langkawi SkyCab climbs Gunung Mat Cincang for panoramic views, and the Sky Bridge looks out over mountain and rainforest. Guided boat trips go through the mangroves and waterways of Kilim Karst Geoforest Park.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta is the culture pick. Malioboro Street is lined with shops and stalls, and the Kraton is the historic palace complex of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. The city is known for batik and for gudeg, made with slow-cooked jackfruit. The temple complexes of Borobudur and Prambanan are close by.

Da Nang, Vietnam

Da Nang mixes beach time at My Khe with the caves, pagodas and viewpoints of the Marble Mountains, plus the Dragon Bridge and mi Quang noodles in the city. Hoi An's historic architecture and lantern-lit streets are within easy reach.
