A unique feature of this collaboration is the launch of India’s First Hyatt Classroom at the Lexicon IHM. Here, students will learn from the experiences of Hyatt industry experts, who will conduct Guest Lectures and Master Classes to share valuable insights and introduce them to contemporary industry practices. Further, the students will be assisted in projects where they can gain exposure to real-life hotel challenges. This will open internship and placement opportunities for the students to be exposed to a practical working environment.

The focus of this relationship is also to introduce future hospitality leaders to Hyatt as a brand and understand the Hyatt Brand Ethos and Core Values. Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management and Lexicon Institute of Media and Advertising offer 5-day power packed Summer Camp

Pune, April 2023: Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management and The Lexicon Institute of Media and Advertising have joined hands to offer a week-long summer camp. The camp will help students master several trending skills in the hospitality segment as well as learn to make exciting YouTuber videos. 

The 5-day camp beginning May 2-May 6 will include day-long programs that will have modules covering hospitality skill sets in the morning followed by lunch offered by the institute. Attendees will learn all about YouTube video-making skills in the post lunch sessions. The camp will be held at the campus of the Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management and the Lexicon Institute of Media and Advertising at Wagholi, Pune.

As part of the hospitality skill set learning module, the students would learn nuances in baking, dining etiquette, kitchen skills, and innovating summer coolers with their creativity. Not only this, the participants will also be taught life skills that include bed making, stitching, and decorative flower arrangements as part of the summer camp. On the final day, the students will learn the art of chocolate making as well as decorating a chocolate cake.

The afternoon sessions are dedicated to aspiring YouTubers who will be taught how to create impressive videos that can be uploaded on YouTube. Young YouTube enthusiasts who are keen to improve their viewership and reach on their personal channels will gain an understanding from choosing the right topic for the right audience to using ambient lighting for their videos. The 5-day workshops will teach students the nuances of shooting and editing YouTube videos for various segments like cooking, dance, do-it-yourself and more. The course has been designed to simplify the YouTube video creation process for learners using basic equipment like mobile phones to both shoot and edit the videos. The hands-on experience and special insights will prove to be an advantage to YouTubers looking to monetize their personal channels. The YouTube creation course will be conducted by Abhijit Joshi, a professional cinematographer with over 25 years of industry experience.

 “If you, as a YouTuber want your channel or video to stand out from amongst the scores of videos being uploaded each day, your content has to be superlative in every way, our course modules ensure that all participants gain deeper understanding of what to write, how to use lighting, how to record good audio, how to present and how to edit what will be the final cut. By the end of their course, each student would have created a professional grade video to be uploaded on their YouTube channel by incorporating techniques learned from the summer camp,” says Dipta Joshi, Principal, Lexicon Institute of Media & Advertising.

Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management hosted “Bridge The Skill Gap” Event in association with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council

Pune- December 2022- Built on the foundations of "A Hotel School: By the Hoteliers, For the Hoteliers", Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management is a premier hospitality education institute that offers budding hoteliers the perfect balance of educational and experiential learning experiences. In light of the recent concerns of skilled workforce shortage in the hospitality industry, Lexicon IHM collaborated with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council to host the “Bridge the Skill Gap Event- Strengthening The Hospitality Skills Ecosystem Through Empowerment.”

 

The speakers at the event included Mr. Jatin Khanna, CEO of Sarovar Hotels and Resorts, Mr. Gladvin Rego, Principal of the Lexicon Institute of Hotel Management, representatives from THSC, Mr. Amol Bajaj, Head - of Apprenticeship Division, Ms. Feba Abraham, Apprenticeship Division, and Mr. Visham Thapa, Assistant Vice President- Client Acquisition Apprenticeship and Traineeship, 2COMS Consulting Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Nasir Shaikh, Group Chief Executive Officer, The Lexicon Group of Institutes, MultiFit & EduCrack, says “Recruiting and retaining talent has been a big challenge for the hospitality and tourism industry. A lack of skilled talent directly affects the customer experience. It can have a long-lasting impact on the brand image and eventually, revenues. The event focused on various aspects of the Hospitality Skills Ecosystem, starting with the future of hospitality traits that highlighted the trends shaping the hospitality industry and the skills required to adapt to these trends. In his address, Mr. Amol Bajaj, Head - Apprenticeship Division, THSC, also introduced the concept of apprenticeship programs that allows young individuals to Learn, Earn and Qualify for industry-specific jobs, which also helps improve skilling and recruitment in the industry. He illustrated the design of an efficient Recruit-Train-Deploy model that can successfully help bridge the skill gap and become a vital tool for hiring. Mr. Bajaj also emphasized the importance of Quality/Skilled team members' contribution towards generating valuable revenue. “With the “Bridge the Skill Gap” event, we sought to emphasize the need to develop sustainable skill ecosystems using various tools such as Apprenticeship Programs, efficient hiring strategies and building talent pipelines. One way in which hospitality education institutes can contribute to improving employability is by designing short-term foundation courses offering department specific training to help aspiring individuals enhance their skillsets. It was a pleasure to host and collaborate with the THSC and explore creative solutions to assist hotel groups and the industry to tackle talent deficit issues.”Said Mr. Bajaj while speaking about how RTD can be a sustainable solution for the hospitality industry.

To assist hoteliers in implementing apprenticeship programs, Ms. Feba Abraham, Apprenticeship Division, THSC, shed light on the new reforms and legalities of the Apprenticeship program by the Government of India. Towards the end of the event, Mr. Visham Thapa, Assistant Vice President- Client Acquisition Apprenticeship and Traineeship, 2COMS Consulting Pvt. Ltd., spoke about the advantages of expansion of the apprenticeship programs through collaboration with Sector Skill Council and Third Party Aggregators, which will also result in further strengthening the skilling ecosystem and help the hospitality and tourism industry reap maximum benefits from Apprenticeship programs. 

By bringing together vital industry stakeholders such as National Skill Development Corporation, Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council, Poona Hoteliers Association, along with industry leaders, under one roof, the “Bridge the Skill Gap” event has taken a positive step towards enabling organizations and the industry successfully utilize resources and tools to develop a sustainable ecosystem for the creation of skilled workforces.
