Zero Proof, Full Drama: Call Me Sofia Bets on Mumbai's Sober-Curious Generation
/Across Mumbai's bar scene, a new kind of regular is showing up earlier in the evening, and ordering differently. Raised on wellness culture and an open conversation about moderation, Gen Z drinkers are driving a global swing toward low- and no-alcohol nights out, and India's metros are very much part of that shift. A single mocktail tacked onto the end of a cocktail list, treated as the consolation prize for the designated driver, no longer cuts it for a generation that wants the ritual and the glamour of a great drink, minus the alcohol.
Call Me Sofia, the Italian-style aperitivo bar tucked behind Olive Bandra's iconic white walls, is answering that shift with intent. The bar's entire identity is built on a low-ABV philosophy, championing aperitifs and lighter sipping over heavy pours, and that instinct now extends into a dedicated Zero Proof Cocktails menu, where every drink carries the same house-made syrups, oleos, foams and finishing flourishes as Sofia's signature, full-strength pours.
Each of the four cocktails is designed to be ordered on its own merit, not as a substitute. The line-up:
First Base - a grape and oregano cordial, carbonated and finished with a paper-thin carrot slice.
Pick Me Up - a coffee-forward sip built on cold brew, orgeat, lemon and chocolate bitters, served alongside an almond-slim biscotti.
Naked - a strawberry and mint oleo balanced with balsamic and white pepper, topped with an edible flower set in isomalt.
The Evening After - rice syrup, butter apple and mascarpone foam, finished with printed rice paper.
The zero-proof programme sits within Sofia's wider small-plates menu and golden-lit, semi-open courtyard space in Khar West. For a generation increasingly choosing how much, or how little, to drink on a given night, Call Me Sofia is wagering that the answer to “what are you having?” shouldn’t require an explanation.
