Berlin Brew Plots a 20-Taproom Future, Putting Consistency First as Kamala Mills Opens
/Scaling a craft beer brand is as much about systems as it is about beer, and Berlin Brew is treating its new Kamala Mills taproom as proof of that. The Mumbai-born brand describes the Lower Parel opening as another step in its evolution into a scalable, multi-outlet taproom business, with a long-term ambition of around 20 outlets.
Kamala Mills joins Times Square in Saki Naka, known for its after-work crowd, the open-air Beer Garden off Veera Desai Road and the book-lined Beer Library, making it the brand’s fourth address in the city. Each outlet is designed to respond to its neighbourhood while sharing the same focus on beer, food and hospitality.
Rather than recreating a traditional German beer hall, Berlin Brew interprets Berlin’s beer culture through a Mumbai lens, combining European brewing styles with Indian ingredients. Its rotating programme of small-batch beers is brewed regularly and spans Belgian Wit, Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen, IPA and Crème Noir Milk Stout, while Jowar, Alphonso mango and Gondhoraj lime add a local accent. More experimental pours include Alphonso Mead, Guava Cider, Coffee Orange Cider and a Gin and Tonic-inspired serve.
For newcomers, the Beer Tree offers a flight of six 150 ml pours. The sharing-led food menu pairs German-inspired staples such as bratwurst, chicken schnitzel and pretzels with Indian-influenced dishes, and the brand recommends pairings such as Crème Noir Milk Stout with warm pretzels. The taproom is open from 12.30 pm to 1 am, with a cost for two of ₹2,500.
Behind the expansion is a focus on repeatability, with recipe standardisation, staff training, procurement, beer quality controls and outlet-level accountability all part of the operating model.
“Growth only matters if the guest experience survives it. Before we add more locations, we are strengthening recipes, training, procurement, quality checks and outlet-level accountability. Our long-term ambition is to build Berlin Brew towards 20 outlets, but we want each new opening to feel considered rather than copied,” said Aniket Patil, Founder of Berlin Brew.
