Cygnett Signs 219-Key Wedding and MICE Resort in Shahapur, Near Mumbai

Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has signed a 219-key resort in Shahapur, in Maharashtra’s Thane district, betting that the foothills of the Sahyadris can become Mumbai’s next weekend escape. The project is being developed in partnership with Tilak Builders & Developers and leans heavily on weddings, leisure and MICE.

Why Shahapur

The resort sits within driving distance of Thane and Navi Mumbai International Airport, with road and rail links to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Its setting of green countryside and nearby water bodies is pitched at weekend travellers, families, destination weddings and corporate retreats.

What is planned

Alongside the 219 rooms, the resort will have an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool, a health club, spa and wellness offerings, leisure activity zones and a dedicated children’s play area.

Events are the centrepiece. The plans include a 7,000 sq ft covered banquet hall next to a 14,000 sq ft lawn, plus a further 45,000 sq ft outdoor lawn, aimed at destination weddings, large social celebrations, corporate events and residential conferences.

“We see significant opportunities for leisure and event-focused hospitality developments within driving distance of major urban centres. Shahapur’s accessibility from Mumbai and Thane makes it a promising location for weekend travel, weddings, and corporate retreats. With its sizeable room inventory and extensive event facilities, this project will strengthen our resort portfolio in Maharashtra. We are pleased to partner with Tilak Builders & Developers on this development.” — Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts

The bigger picture

The property will carry the Cygnett Resort name, the group’s contemporary leisure brand, which runs under the line “Modern | Mindful | Elevated”. The signing fits the company’s push into emerging leisure destinations and its wedding and MICE business.

Cygnett has a development pipeline of 55 hotels and resorts, representing roughly 3,750 keys. Through its alliance with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, it is also developing Trademark Collection by Wyndham, La Quinta by Wyndham and Registry Collection Hotels by Wyndham properties across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
