Kuda Villingili Resort Maldives Marks Third Consecutive Green Globe Certification
/Kuda Villingili Resort Maldives has earned its third consecutive Green Globe Certification, marking another year of meeting internationally recognised standards across environmental, social, cultural and economic criteria. The North Malé Atoll resort, 30 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, presents the result as part of a longer commitment to responsible luxury rather than a one-off audit milestone.
Having completed its annual sustainability review, the resort points to practical measures that reduce its footprint while protecting the island setting guests come for. Solar panels at the team members’ village cut energy use by about 40 per cent. Food waste is turned into compost for the island’s landscaping, a recycling centre processes glass for reuse, and the property continues to favour recycled and biodegradable materials while working to eliminate single-use plastics.
The same agenda runs into the ocean. Each month, Kuda Villingili runs a Coral Planting Experience with MSTS, its dive and watersports team, inviting guests and resort ambassadors to learn about the Maldives’ reef systems and help plant coral fragments. Younger travellers are encouraged to join, so conservation becomes a hands-on lesson as well as a restoration activity.
Community wellbeing sits alongside the marine work. The resort recently held its annual Blood Donation Drive with Maldivian Blood Services under the Ministry of Health; 64 ambassadors registered to take part, supporting the national blood supply for patients who need transfusions.
“Receiving Green Globe Certification for the third consecutive year is a proud milestone for our team and reflects our continued commitment to responsible hospitality,” said Amjad Thaufeeg, Commercial Director of Kuda Villingili Resort Maldives. “At Kuda Villingili, we believe true luxury extends beyond exceptional experiences—it is about creating a positive impact on our environment, our community, and future generations. Sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to evolve our practices while delivering unforgettable experiences for our guests.”
The island has 75 villas — 39 beach villas and residences with private pools and 36 overwater villas — eight restaurants, three bars and a Whiskey & Cigar Lounge, with a beachfront spa, kids club and a pool of more than 150 metres. As it enters a third year as a Green Globe Certified resort, Kuda Villingili frames sustainability as an ongoing responsibility woven through how it operates, how guests meet the destination, and how it contributes beyond its shores.
