Sahib Room & Kipling Bar Celebrates Its Anniversary with the Launch of The Sahib's Table – Edition I, Featuring Food Historian and Author Anoothi Vishal | 4 July

Mumbai, June 2026: As Sahib Room & Kipling Bar at The St. Regis Mumbai celebrates the anniversary of its reimagined journey, the restaurant introduces The Sahib's Table, a recurring series bringing together distinguished voices from the worlds of food, history, literature, and culture through immersive conversations and thoughtfully curated dining experiences. Edition I, taking place on 4th July 2026 and available throughout July, features acclaimed food historian and author Anoothi Vishal, whose extensive research into India's culinary heritage inspires an exploration of nineteenth-century Lucknow and the enduring legacy of Awadhi cuisine. Future editions will continue to spotlight celebrated historians, authors, artists, and cultural voices.

For the inaugural edition, Chef Taj Mohammed Sha presents Kim's Dastarkhwan, a specially curated five-course menu inspired by Rudyard Kipling's celebrated novel Kim and the vibrant cultural landscape of nineteenth-century Lucknow. Then one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, Lucknow flourished as a centre of luxury where nawabs, poets, scholars, artists, British officers, and European merchants shaped a refined culture of etiquette, storytelling, music, and gastronomy. Under the patronage of wealthy nobility, celebrated Rikabdars, or master chefs, transformed Awadhi cuisine into one of the world's earliest expressions of luxury dining, where delicate flavours, fragrant aromatics, intricate techniques, and gracious hospitality came together in perfect harmony.

Drawing from this remarkable history, Kim's Dastarkhwan revisits recipes and culinary traditions that once graced royal courts and family dastarkhwans. The menu journeys through classics including Balai Toast, Chowk Chops, Matara Chaat, Kakori Kebab, and Lazeez Tikka, followed by signature creations such as Mahi Musallam, Murgh Wajid Ali, Qasr-e-Pukhtan, and Sahib Ki Dal-E-Khaas, accompanied by Sheermal, Taftan, and Lucknowi Kulcha. Inspired by Mirza Ghalib's celebrated accounts of Lucknow's lavish feasts, the experience concludes with Gosht Dum Biryani, Guchchi Pulao, and nostalgic desserts including Kesar Phirni, Imrati Rabdi, Nuqti Ke Laddoo, and Shahi Tukda, before ending with the traditional ritual of paan.

Beyond the menu, The Sahib's Table embodies Sahib Room & Kipling Bar's philosophy of immersive, storytelling-led hospitality. From a traditional welcome and narrative-led introductions to chef-led presentations, curated pickle tastings, sensory spice rituals, and live culinary theatre from the Spectacle Kitchen, every touchpoint is designed to transport guests into another era. The evening concludes with a traditional paan ritual and the restaurant's signature passport-stamping ceremony, transforming dinner into a memorable culinary voyage.

Complementing the experience is Scent Sculptures, Sahib Room & Kipling Bar's signature cocktail programme inspired by the celebrated attars of Lucknow. Fragrant notes of rose, jasmine, kewra, cardamom, and mitti attar evoke the city's enduring romance with perfume, poetry, and hospitality, extending the storytelling beyond the plate.

Over the past year, Sahib Room & Kipling Bar has established itself as one of Mumbai's most immersive luxury dining destinations, blending regional Indian cuisine with theatrical service, curated rituals, and the romance of Rudyard Kipling's literary world. As the restaurant enters its next chapter, The Sahib's Table creates a platform where meaningful conversations and exceptional dining come together. While Edition I with Anoothi Vishal sets the tone, the series will continue to invite guests to discover India's rich heritage through new voices, new stories, and new culinary journeys.
