Lesson Learned By Rocco Bova, General Manager, Chable' Resort, Chablé, Mexico

The Q is 'what did you learn on this journey and how ready can one ever be?'

Nobody is ever ready for a crisis. Each one is so different and there are no SOPs that can help you.

It took the world some three months to get somehow adjusted and begun reaction. What I learned is first to surround yourself with positive people, a team that can provide resourceful support and keep a forward-looking yet realistic attitude.

Let me dig in a little. For example, during these times, we have implemented a remote meeting with the EXCOM and kept the remaining of the team up to date with daily videos on a Facebook group where almost all team members joined. This helped us remain united and have this sense of belonging to the company even far away from each other.

Besides this, while I must admit that the first week after closure I was under some kind of negative feelings, I kept myself busy by watching webinars and educating myself with what was happening around the world and have a more global perspective. Then, I remained focused on what I could control and start working on it (including reviving a dream I had kept in my drawer for a long time), including learning new skills, participate actively in the hospitality community and share my own experiences as well as share as many job opportunities in my Linkedin network with my followers and help as much as possible people without a job.

I think if one follows these basic rules can get through this and maybe other crisis in much better shape than just fall into depression and complacency. We are only victims of our own attitude.
