2022 MARKS 10-YEAR MILESTONE FOR FOUR SEASONS MALDIVES SURFING CHAMPIONS TROPHY

India, June 2022: After a two-year hiatus, the world’s most luxurious surfing event announces its return to competition in the stunning reef breaks of Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa.

Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy will be hosting its 10th year of competition from August 22-29, 2022, with perhaps the most exciting field of competitors ever to don the coveted jersey.

With a line-up of six professional surfers and a unique event format, the Surfing Champions Trophy throws traditional competition to the wind and, from the most lavish surf location in the world, puts on a one-of-a-kind show.

Rather than set 30-minute heats, each surfer’s heat time is based on their age. Additionally, their skills are put to the test across three different surfing disciplines – single-fin, twin-fin and a more conventional triple-fin thruster. With this varied format, each surfer has the freedom to get creative and have as much fun as possible in the water.

Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy announces the first three surfers (of six) who will be competing in this historic 10th year of competition – Rob Machado, Shane Dorian and Ross Williams.

These surfers are not only iconic in the sport but also makeup part of a very special crew in surfing’s celebrated history – The Momentum Generation. With their story now made into a feature-length film on HBO (The Momentum Generation), fans can tune in and become invested in the narrative of these legendary surfers – from their young teenage lives through to today, surfing in the Surfing Champions Trophy in Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa.

“Don’t be fooled by the age of our crew,” says Rob Machado. “We’ll be more fired up than ever, competing against guys from our own generation!”

The remaining field will be announced closer to the event, with three additional competitors including one local Maldivian wildcard. This packed field will be putting on a unique display of surfing to remember, as they compete for USD 25,000 in prize winnings and enjoy all that Four Seasons Resort Kuda Huraa has to offer.

Stay tuned for more updates as the (re)start of the world’s most luxurious surfing event approaches for its landmark tenth anniversary.

HILTON BANGALORE EMBASSY GOLFLINKS SPREADS THE MESSAGE OF ONLY ONE EARTH, THIS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

HILTON BANGALORE EMBASSY GOLFLINKS SPREADS THE MESSAGE OF ONLY ONE EARTH, THIS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

~ GREEN INITIATIVES TAKE PRIORITY IN THE HOTEL OPERATIONS ~

June 2022:  With an aim to celebrate, protect and restore our planet, Hilton Bangalore Embassy GolfLinks conducted a host of transformative and sustainable activities in the hotel with the team members and guests, to spread the message of this year’s World Environment Day theme of Only One Earth.

Designed to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of the only planet we have, several initiatives were planned over the course of one week to offer insights into sustainability issues and the hotel’s environmental policy including-

·        The hotel personnel carried out a cleanliness drive near the hotel. They collected close to 300kgs of trash and other waste materials that were strewn across the road.

·        Introduced a water bottling plant within the premises to serve purified water to guests in rooms and restaurants. The plant works on the principle, that an automated in-house system washes, sterilizes and fills glass bottles, thereby not only cutting down on plastic waste but also eliminating carbon emissions involved in transporting the bottles to the hotel from a plant.

·        In-house guests were given seed balls in a water-soluble pouch as a token of the hotel’s commitment to supporting sustainable practices.

·        Organized a poster-making and slogan writing competition for employee kids along with the children of Parikrama- a Bangalore-based NGO to highlight the key messaging of #OnlyOneEarth. These posters were later displayed in guest areas to promote the occasion.

·        Highlighted the use of Organic Waste Composter by recycling all the wet waste generated at the hotel and transforming it into organic manure for our own landscape.

·        Constantly encourage guests to commute to work within the tech park in the electric golf carts. This enables us to save an enormous amount of fuel combustion.

Tejus Jose, General Manager expressed his views on the occasion, "In line with Hilton’s Travel with Purpose initiative, Hilton Bangalore Embassy GolfLinks under the ownership of Embassy Group, continues to drive responsible tourism at every step. From eliminating several single-use plastics, introducing water conservation strategies to reducing carbon footprint, we remain committed to sustainable business practices.”

He further added, “We will continue to invest in activities and drive initiatives at the hotel to encourage healthy tourism and eco balance. Our planet is everyone’s responsibility and we must all make a collective effort to protect it.”

Celebrity Master Chef – Dr. Kaviraj Khialani conducted a 3-day Global Gastronomy Workshop – Food from around the world with a twist of taste at GNA University, Phagwara- Punjab.

Celebrity Master Chef – Dr. Kaviraj Khialani conducted a 3-day Global Gastronomy Workshop – Food from around the world with a twist of taste at GNA University, Phagwara- Punjab.

Keeping in mind the current culinary trends and latest twists and turns to have the interest levels pepped up for young budding culinarians, celebrity master Chef Kaviraj Khialani presented a global twist with fusion cooking in an attempt to have the desi flavours revamping themselves with an international look and vice versa. The intent of this 3-day workshop from 23rd to 25th May 2022, pre-dominantly was to share ideas, knowledge and information about global cuisines with the young wanting to be chefs at the esteemed GNA University at Phagwara, Punjab.

The workshop started off with a seminar room presentation in which the importance of knowing basic’s in culinary was discussed, a formal presentation on the art of fusion cooking was presented starting from its origin to the modern outlook. Chef Kaviraj made this session a very interactive one and the students too participated whole-heartedly and shared their experiences with cooking, baking and innovating with foods.

The session also laid importance on understanding various cooking methods, how to mix- n- match regional foods with fusion, the know-how aspects of how to blend spices, masalas, sauces, condiments etc to create new combinations and concoctions to impress a foodie in a number of ways possible. Chef also discussed various examples from our day to day cooking from a dal fry to jeera aloo, to our favourite pao bhaji, sooji ka sheera, aloo paratha and many more sharing ideas on how we can create new recipes using our foundation recipes.

The seminar session also presented 100 ways with fusion recipes which were shared with all the participants in the form of handouts especially designed for the workshop which were a great take away from the session in terms of how and where we can innovate and create fusion in our daily cooking. the students found this part very informative and interesting since the names given to the fusion dishes too were different, unusual and with a punch of humour. Besides this Chef Kaviraj also handed out 100 most popularly asked questions for culinary interviews and vivas from indian cuisine to international as well with hints and tips on how to answer them aptly and to the point, this was appreciated by the participants as it would be helpful for them in the coming semesters at college.

The 2nd and 3rd day of the workshop were totally practical and hands on in the training kitchen and labs, the students were asked to divide themselves into 3 teams and groups of 10-12 each per team by which it would be easy to divide the work and the mis-en-place for the menus to be done on the said days. There were totally 3 teams and each team did 1 menu of around 5-6 dishes per day and 2 menus totally in 2 days were completed by each team. The emphasis here was on pre-planning, organising, and dividing the tasks equally among team members who also had to carry out tasks related to bakery as well. the student’s enthusiasm was worth watching and the excitement to work on day 2 and day 3 was the best part to observe at the end of day 1 of the seminar.

The management team of the university also visited the presentation room to check out the presentations of the students in teams and their menus which they found pretty impressive and in good spirit it was a break from routine sessions and practicals as well from the faculties point of view. The students were asked to present their respective concepts of the global fusion menus and to get confident on how to speak effectively with a sense of pride about what is appearing on the plates!

The students were very tempted to try out their dishes and menus by the end of the presentations on both the days and they loved sharing their dishes with the other teams as well in order to have an open learning session and that is what really works when it comes to cooking and food. The reactions and expressions of some of the students were worth watching when they tasted some really new and unimaginable recipes during these sessions and the wow factor just took over everyone!  Some of the most liked dishes from the fusion desk included international chinese Manchurian chaat platter, palak paneer tadke wala lasagne baked to perfection, chicken mehlokhiya with Mashkool rice, layered phirni and flaky pastry dessert enlaced with blueberries and nuts to name a few. Indian, Chinese, Thai, Arabic, Mexican, Malaysian, Filipino, Sri-Lankan, French, Italian were few of the cuisines picked for this workshop. The top 5 students among both the teams after a thorough observation on all days were also offered a token of appreciation by chef kaviraj for their exemplary performance!

“my experience at GNA University has been amazing! The students taking up culinary arts are so focussed, they love to be in the kitchen, want to get into doing things practically, they are not only open to discussions and food talk sessions but also want to get their hands on trying new ways out with the regulars. The students have been very cooperative and have exhibited an awesome interest and impeccable presentation styles as well during the 3-day global gastronomy workshop”.

Mr. Gurdeep Singh- President of GNA University also offered a token of gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Kaviraj Khialani for having conducted this global gastronomy workshop for the students and along with him the vice-chancellor, dean- academics and head of department too extended their best wishes to Chef Kaviraj for this great task well executed.

On day 3 we also had a certificate of appreciation which was signed by Chef Kaviraj and handed over personally to each participant with a photo session as well to leave back memories ever after.

These kind of sessions are very helpful for the students and they develop a sense of confidence and motivation for them to work on their area of interest and stay committed towards making a bright career in the near future too. It would be nice if more colleges and universities across India start accepting this idea and fact of knowledge sharing by we experts with the students and also a platform where they can ask questions, clarify doubts and even showcase their own talents as well summarised chef Kaviraj Khialani as he concluded the workshop with a note of thanks and best wishes for all.

BCIHMCT hosting its 12th India International Hotel, Travel and Tourism Research Conference

Training and Skilling Employees – the only way to win customer loyalty

“Human Resource Department has a tough task at hand. The post-pandemic era needs a lot of trained, skilled and motivated employees to bring back the loyalty of customers for the hospitality sector.” In the 12th India International Hotel, Travel & Tourism Research Conference, which is currently being organized, from March 03, 2022 to March 05, 2022 by Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, many such issues were raised and discussed by the academic fraternity.

The theme for this year is "Renaissance 2.0: Re-think, Re-build & Re-coup" which is aimed at absorbing the best practices adopted by the active players in the hospitality & tourism sector around the world. The HR department should develop managers who have to be great at time management, context switching, and problem solving.

Through methodical and modern methods of training, a manager can handle various situations like unhappy guests, analyzing guest needs and of course emergency scenarios like last minute changes at a function or banquet operations.

HR should strategize their policy in such a manner so as to improve operations in all departments, allowing the team to be more efficient and even assess if they are happy at work. This will definitely bring back loyal customers and help the revenues to soar as high as possible.

During the Conference, researchers discussed and deliberated on pertinent issues related to the HR department of a hotel and how to revive and thrive guest experiences by training and skilling employees. The conference also shed the light on enhancing knowledge of creating and managing demand, and maximizing returns in the near future for all future managers. After all, “A hotel is only as good as its employees.”

The major part of our IIHTTRC conference also focused on implementing programs to properly train employees that help close the skills gap, which also continues to be one of the biggest HR challenges in the hospitality industry.

In addition all the factors discussed so far, HR Managers in the hospitality sector often face challenges related to the motivation of their employees. Most jobs in this sector are highly stressful needing constant vigilance and attention on the employees and hence, there is a high burnout rate in the sector. To avoid high attrition due to stress and demoralized employees due to fatigue, HR Managers in the sector must come up with innovative and inventive policies to ensure that employees remain motivated.

That’s why there is a need of skilled employees, who provide exceptional customer service at all times. An Effective HR team can revive the morale of the employees and thus make the customers happy and loyal, by training and skilling all manpower of the hotel sector.

HR professionals at hospitality companies also face a unique set of challenges that they have to tackle daily. Hence, there is a need to keep the spirits of the employees high and towards this cause. HR Managers can ensure that they align the rewards with the performance in a manner that brings out the best in each of their employees.

Through this theme, an effort is being made in the conference to include constructive deliberations on the aforesaid issues prevailing worldwide in HR due to the current pandemic situation and to address, discuss and devise future strategies for “Managing Hotel Operations and Human Resource Issue”.
