Wedding season sees demand for banquet halls jump by 68% and that for jewellers by 43%: Justdial Consumer Insights

Mumbai, Nov 15: After two years of low-key celebrations due to COVID restrictions, this year’s wedding season sees a rise in demand (YOY) for a wide range of wedding services with searches for banquet halls being up by 83%, caterers by 57%, and wedding jewellers by 44%, reports the latest Justdial Consumer Insights report.

 

Overall demand on Justdial for wedding services, comprising of banquet halls, caterers, decorators, DJs, event organisers, wedding jewellers, tailors, Mehendi artists, pandits, photographers, matrimonial bureaus, and wedding bands, saw a 30% jump across India’s 1000 towns and cities. This demand was primarily accentuated by Tier-II cities that saw a 48% rise in demand, and in Tier-I cities, it was 22%. 

 

Commenting on the consumer trends during this wedding season, Mr. Prasun Kumar, CMO, Justdial said: “We are witnessing a surge in demand during this wedding season as India reportedly will see 32 lakh weddings in a period of next 30 days. The last two years have been difficult for wedding services due to restrictions on marriages due to COVID. Weddings have been a big driver for India’s gig economy, and it is encouraging to witness that demand is rising fast in Tier-II cities. Demand for wedding services in Tier-II cities is now 2X vis-à-vis Tier-I and it augurs well for the economy at large. It also reflects the fact that businesses of all hues even in Tier-II towns and cities are now getting online to maximise their reach and enhance their business.”

 

Amongst wedding services, jewellers, banquet halls, decorators, photographers, and caterers, were the top-5 services that saw maximum demand and contributed to almost 60% of the searches related to wedding services on the platform.  

 

For wedding jewellers, Mumbai topped the demand across the country followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. Searches in Tier-I cities rose by 29%, while Tier-II cities witnessed a jump of 44%. Among Tier-II cities, Jaipur led the demand race followed by Surat, Rajkot, Chandigarh, and Coimbatore.

 

Demand (YOY) rise for banquet halls was the highest across all wedding services as it saw a 68% rise in searches in India. Among Tier-II cities this demand rose by 83%, and in Tier-I cities by 46%. Mumbai topped the searches for banquet halls and contributed to almost 27% of the demand in Tier-I cities followed by Delhi and Chennai in the second and third place respectively. Coimbatore, Surat, Nagpur, Lucknow, and Patna were the top-5 Tier-II cities that saw maximum demand for banquet halls.

 

Searches for decorators jumped by 31% with Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru driving maximum demand among Tier-I cities. The demand in Tier-II cities was up by 43% with cities like Chandigarh, Indore, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Surat driving maximum traction.

 

Demand for wedding photographers rose by 23% in the country with searches in Tier-II cities being 2.3X of that in Tier-I cities. Mumbai and Delhi contributed to almost 50% of the demand generated by Tier-I cities. Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Rajkot, and Coimbatore were the top-5 Tier-II cities with maximum demand for wedding photographers.   

 

Searches for caterers went up by 31% with Tier-II cities outstripping Tier-I cities in terms of demand. Tier-II cities saw the demand going up by 31% and Tier-I cities by 57%. Bengaluru, topping the list, had the highest demand for caterers followed by Mumbai and Delhi among Tier-I cities. Among Tier-II cities Jaipur, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, and Ernakulam were the top-5 with maximum demand for caterers.

Sherry’s career has seen her travel the length of India, with opportunities presented in various locations such as Cochin, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. Ms. Padda’s most recent stint was with The Leela Palace, New Delhi, Chanakyapuri, as an Executive Assistant Manager.  

On the professional front, Sherry has had some memorable moments, such as being a representative as the only lady official attaché for the Prime Minister and his wife’s visit.

On joining, Sherry states, “I am proud to be joining the Hyatt Family and Grand Hyatt Mumbai Hotel and Residences as a Hotel Manager and promise to deliver luxury experiences to our patrons and create memorable moments for our Guests and Colleagues.”

Apart from work, Sherry can be seen crooning the best hits of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. She is also a good athlete, enjoys playing badminton and chess with her kids, as well reading non-fictional books. Sherry also has a green thumb, with her home housing a unique collection of exotic plants.


Marriott International Set to Expand Portfolio With Expected Addition of 30 Select Service Hotels in Greater China by the End of 2023

The company’s “Brand + Destination” strategy in Greater China is expected to capture robust travel demand by matching destinations with brand debuts and entries

Marriott International, Inc., today announced plans to expand its select service portfolio in Greater China with the expected addition of 30 hotels in the segment by the end of 2023. The additions are fueled by the strong demand for Marriott’s select service accommodations in emerging destinations and complement an existing portfolio of more than 460 properties in the region. Marriott’s select service portfolio currently includes the following brands spanning across 67 cities in Greater China: Moxy Hotels, Fairfield by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, and Element Hotels.

Marriott’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary hotel brands offers unique brand choices to capture changes in consumer needs and characteristics across different destinations. The expansion of the select service portfolio in the region will elevate consumers’ travel choices in China’s second-and third-tier cities, such as Foshan and Changchun, while expanding its presence in first-tier cities like Shanghai.

The company is also enhancing its strategic positioning in Greater China through dual-brand projects and its franchise-plus model. The unique design of the dual-brand model will accommodate travelers’ growing desires for flexible accommodation by offering consumers more choices. In 2022, the company signed six dual-brand hotel projects representing 14 hotels, among which three are under the Fairfield by Marriott brand and two under the Four Points by Sheraton brand. With the franchise-plus model, Marriott helps to streamline hotel openings and initial stage operations and uphold brand quality. The model involves Marriott working closely with franchisees and recommending candidates for the initial general manager who, once employed by the franchisee, works toward the hotel opening and throughout the initial year of operations by leveraging Marriott’s supports, system, and resources.

The energetic Moxy Hotels brand, which currently has six existing hotels in five Chinese cities including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi’an, etc., is set to bring its “Play On” spirit to more cities through its anticipated debut in Suzhou and Xi’an. Preparing for its future entry into Chongqing and Ningbo, Moxy Hotels is expected to introduce a Chinese version of its design prototype, incorporating local influences into its vibrant, social interior spaces to offer guest experiences that are always buzzing with high energy.

Tarun Arora has been appointed as the Chef De Cuisine of Events at Andaz Delhi – a luxury lifestyle hotel by Hyatt. With over 15 years of experience across the globe from the US to Spain, Italy, and France with topmost luxury brands like Imperial, Carnival Cruises, Indigo, Pullman and Novotel, Chef Tarun has showcased his skills and talent at numerous events and platforms, over the years.

Tarun Arora began his career in the Food and Beverage industry in 2008, as an Executive Trainee and Demi Chef De Partie at Hotel Imperial, New Delhi. Over the next few years, he worked at The Carnival Cruise Lines, Miami, USA, from 2011 till 2012 as Demi Chef De Partie in the main galley and then as a Steakhouse Cook at Fahrenheit 555, Carnival Cruise Lines during the years 2012-2014.

Post which, he worked at the Pullman and Novotel Airport hotel in Delhi,  where he initially served as a Chef De Partie in 2014-2015, got promoted as a Junior Sous Chef in 2016, as the Sous Chef for Events from April 2017 to March 2019 and then as the Chef De Cuisine for Events from April 2019 till August 2020. He then shifted to Andaz Delhi, where he initially worked as the Chef De Cuisine at AnnaMaya, the Modern Foodhall at Andaz Delhi.

She is trained at Oberoi School of Learning & Development (OCLD) and completed her graduation from IHM Ahmedabad.

Kanika joined The Oberoi Gurgaon in 2011 after completing rigorous training at OCLD as a Asst. Manager. Over the next 6+ years she handled various positions of increasing responsibility at multiple Oberoi properties. She assumed a leadership role of Executive Housekeeper with Marriott Hotels at The Westin Gurgaon where she excelled in areas of her expertise – guest experience, training & development, quality assurance, budgeting & performance management.

She joined Hyatt family in 2019 at Grand Hyatt Gurgaon, a pre-opening property at the millennium city of India. Upon asking about her 3-year tenure, she fondly recalled, “My most memorable career moment was opening of restaurants & event spaces at Grand Hyatt Gurgaon, followed by opening of guest rooms. Featuring pyro drones, nano lights, colors, and shapes choreographed to electric beats, #RAKNYE2023 will see a performance of fireworks light up the sky in a truly spectacular New Year’s celebration that cannot be missed. Covering a 4.7km stretch along the waterfront between Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra Village, visitors will be mesmerized by a jaw-dropping pyromusical, set to break new records once again.

Additionally, residents and tourists alike can enjoy a calendar packed full of family-friendly activities and events in the run-up to New Year’s Eve with a host of festivals running across the destination from November 15th to December 31st, 2022.

The Organising Committee, led by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority and comprising teams from Ras Al Khaimah Police, Ras Al Khaimah Government Media Office, Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce, Marjan, Public Works, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, Al Hamra and others, is leading the preparations for this year’s event.
