Homestays and 3-star hotels are in maximum demand for Christmas Holidays: Justdial Consumer Insights

Mumbai: With the year-end festivities around the corner, demand for homestays and 3-star hotels have surged and contributed to almost 60% of the searches for hotels for the Christmas Holidays, reports the latest Justdial Consumer Insights.
Along with homestays and 3-star hotels, 5-star hotels, service apartments, and 4-star hotels made up the top-5 categories of hotels in demand during this holiday season. After two years of a lull due to the outbreak of COVID, demand (YOY) for hotels is up by 17% and now at par with the pre-COVID level. Demand for Home Stays saw a meteoric 135% jump, and that for 3-star hotels rose by 18%, while that for others remained stable.
While searches for Hotels soared, searches for Bars, Fast Food, Food Delivery, and Dhabas made up for the top-5 most searched services during this holiday and party season. Hotels dominated with 27% of the overall searches followed by Bars (23%), Fast Food (18%), Food Delivery (17%), and Dhabas (14%).
Commenting on the trends, Prasun Kumar, CMO, Justdial, said: “It is encouraging to see that the hospitality and the F&B industries are witnessing a surge in demand as we hit the phase for year-end festivities. This rise in demand comes on the back of two years of a lull due to Covid. Some interesting trends have come to the fore like the rise in popularity of homestays over hotels so much so that demand (YOY) has gone up by 135%. In line with the rising demand, we curated the best-rated option for users for the best holiday experience.”
Demand for homestays was the highest in the popular tourist destinations of Coorg, Darjeeling, Ernakulam, Purulia, Wayanad, and Goa. Searches for star hotels in a holiday destination were the highest in Goa followed by Ernakulam, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Visakhapatnam. For service apartments, the maximum demand was in Coimbatore, followed by Goa, Mysore, Ernakulam, and Visakhapatnam.
Among Tier-I cities, demand for homestays remained the highest in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. For star-rated hotels, most of the demand from Tier-I cities came from Delhi and Mumbai, and Bengaluru but for service apartments demand was highest in Chennai, followed by Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
With searches (YOY) for bars going up by 23%, most of this demand in Tier-I cities was generated by Mumbai and Delhi. The two cities generated almost 55% of the demand for bars from Tier-I cities. Among Tier-II cities, most of the demand came from Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhopal, Jaipur, and Chandigarh.
Searches for Fast Food centres also went up 48% with Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad generating maximum demand in Tier-I cities. Among Tier-II cities, Fast Food remained popular in Surat, Jammu, Jaipur, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh.
Food delivery service was in high demand in Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai among Tier-I cities while Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Ludhiana, Malappuram, and Kannur were the top-5 Tier-II cities that saw maximum searches.
Among Tier-I cities, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad saw maximum traction for Dhabas while Nagpur, Indore, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Lucknow were the top 5 Tier-II cities.

Carlton Cannes to become Europe’s first new generation Regent Hotel in spring 2023

DECEMBER – CANNES: IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has today announced a historic addition to its Regent Hotels & Resorts portfolio - a continuation of its partnership with the hotel’s owner and developer Katara Hospitality.
The announcement celebrates the longstanding partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Carlton Cannes owner Katara Hospitality, an award-winning Qatar-based global hotel developer and operator with over 50 years of experience in luxury hospitality.
Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel will open in Spring 2023 after a two-year multi-million Euro redevelopment. The property will become a flagship property within the new generation of Regent Hotels & Resorts, as the brand – part of IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle Collection - returns to reimagine modern luxury once more.

/Knowledge is Power: A Marine Biology Journey Starts With Trainee Marine Biologist Modules at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Immersing Youngsters in Ground Breaking Conservation and Research
Mumbai, December 2022: The fight for a healthier ocean is real and not to be taken lightly. Continuing more than 15 years of dedication to its UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve home, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru has launched a new series of Trainee Marine Biologist modules to offer young adults a deep dive into pioneering marine research in one of the world’s most abundant oceanic territories.
Designed for 15 to 19-year-olds, the six one-day, one-to-one modules are designed as a serious foundation for scientifically minded teens, those considering a career in marine biology, or anyone with a genuine desire to deeply engage with the natural world.
Each module combines practical activities with comprehensive take-home texts for a deep dive into what it takes to be a Coral Biologist, Dolphin Biologist, Turtle Biologist, Aquarist, Plankton Biologist, or Manta Biologist. Each privately taught module stands alone and is bookable as a single-day experience.
Trainees work alongside the Resort’s expert Marine Savers marine biologists, on-site veterinarian and experts from The Manta Trust, gaining a unique insight into the Resort’s conservation projects. Activities might include using artificial intelligence to monitor coral reef restoration, cultivating artemia and rotifers in the Fish Lab, tracking and identifying local cetaceans, rehabilitating injured turtles, and contributing to the conservation of the world’s largest known population of manta rays.
“We know from experience that actively engaging youngsters with marine environments is key to inspiring long-term conservation efforts,” comments Simon Dixon, Manager of Landaa Giraavaru’s Marine Discovery Centre. “Our trainee modules offer an in-depth experience of life in our field and are a great foundation for anyone with a passion for environmental action. Trainee Coral Biologist
A unique insight into the incredible underwater world of coral reefs – the most diverse of all marine ecosystems – and how to help ensure their survival. Alongside the resident Coral Biologist, trainees will take part in every aspect of the coral restoration project, from preparation and transplanting to photography and uploading.
Trainee Dolphin Biologist
An opportunity to be part of the conservation story of the Maldives’ much-loved marine mammals: dolphins and whales. Working alongside the Dolphin Biologists, trainees will find out all about these magnificent creatures, go on a cruise to track their movements around the islands, and take and process photos to identify individuals.
Trainee Turtle Biologist
Sea turtles have been found throughout the world’s oceans since around the time of the dinosaurs – with the exception of the polar seas – but now six of their seven species are at risk of extinction. Alongside the resident Turtle Biologist, trainees will learn about sea turtle anatomy and biology, the threats they face in the wild and what can be done to help conserve them.
Trainee Aquarist
This module takes a closer look at some of the smaller organisms that inhabit the underwater world. From plankton to clownfish, rotifers to jellyfish, each play a part in ensuring healthy ecosystems that sustain life. A fascinating introduction to the work in the Fish Lab, this module highlights the dangers and threats facing each species and explores how we can help ourselves by helping the oceans.
Trainee Plankton Biologist
A chance to discover the role these incredible organisms play in our lives, from providing the oxygen we breathe to helping us track climate events and understand the migration of large sea animals. Trainees will be part of the first long-term, continuous plankton survey in the Maldives – and, to the best of the program’s knowledge, in any global UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – and help contribute to a model of plankton diversity and biomass that will hopefully expand into a national database.
Trainee Manta Biologist An insight into the secret lives of the gentle giants of the Maldives: manta rays. Trainees will spend time with these majestic animals and learn how the Manta Ray Biologists work to conserve and protect the local manta ray population. This module enables trainees to become a part of the team’s research journey, from photo identification to helping monitor size, behaviour and even pregnancy.

The Trainee Marine Biologist modules are the latest innovation in 15 years of marine research and education at Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru. Other successes include the Maldives’ most successful coral reef regeneration project; establishing the Maldivian Manta Ray Project in 2005 (the founding project of the now worldwide Manta Trust); inaugurating the Maldives’ first Turtle Rehabilitation Centre in 2011; rehabilitating more than 340 injured sea turtles (including rehoming 6 overseas); and identifying 350+ cetaceans through the Dolphin ID Project.

Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach ushered in the holiday season with its annual tree lighting ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with festive cheer. The ceremony was attended by prominent local publications among others, alongside bloggers, in-house guests, outlet guests & the Novotel team. This year, the hotel opted for an eco-friendly Christmas Tree which was made out of recycled bottles.

Almonds/ cashews- 2 tsp chopped
Chickoo- 1 no, peeled and cut
Melon seeds/ flax seeds- 1 tsp
Honey-1 tsp
Cinnamon powder-1 pinch
Method:
1. Prepare all the ingredients as per the list for the power shake.
2. Using a jar of a food processor, combine together all the ingredients from ripe banana, ripe chickoo, to dates, nuts, seeds, honey and soy milk etc and churn it all into a smooth textured shake.
3. Check for sweetness and flavor and balance it accordingly, pour the drink into chilled jars/glasses and sprinkle some nuts/seeds or a pinch of cinnamon powder over the top and lightly mix and enjoy it.

Walnuts/almonds/cashews- 2 tsp chopped
Chia seeds/ flax seeds- 1 tsp

Banana-1 ripe
Dark chocolate-2-3 pieces/ 2 tsp melted.
