Manufacturing, AI and Hospitality: Tamil Nadu’s blueprint for the future

An in-depth perspective on how Tamil Nadu’s institutional strength, infrastructure, and human capital continue to drive sustained economic momentum.

Tamil Nadu’s growth story is often spoken about in numbers, rankings, and recent investment announcements. But to truly understand why the state continues to outperform, attract global capital, and create inclusive prosperity, one must look deeper, into its long institutional memory, its early investment on infrastructure and human capital, and its rare ability to sustain economic momentum across decades, governments, and industries.

As someone who has witnessed the state’s evolution not just as a business leader but as a long-term investor in its cities, people, and culture, I believe Tamil Nadu represents one of India’s most complete development models, one that blends industrial strength with social outcomes, and modern economic ambition with deep-rooted civilizational evolution.

Early industrial foundations

To draw a growth trajectory and highlight significant milestones, Tamil Nadu’s industrial journey did not begin after Independence. It began much earlier, at a time when large parts of India had limited access to electricity. The Pykara Hydroelectric Project in the Nilgiris was commissioned in the year 1932. It was the first hydroelectric project launched and successfully implemented by the state, was among the highest in Asia at the time and continues to stand among the significant hydroelectric projects in the world.

This early access to reliable power changed the destiny of entire regions. Coimbatore, once a trading center, transformed into an industrial powerhouse. Power-driven looms replaced manual labor, enabling scale, productivity, and competitiveness. By 1947, Coimbatore was already known as the “Manchester of India.” Simultaneously, match factories flourished in Sivakasi, leather tanneries emerged in Ambur and Dindigul, and small engineering workshops spread across towns and districts.

By the time India attained Independence, Tamil Nadu was not seen as an agrarian backwater but as a state with industrial muscle memory, an economy that had already tasted manufacturing-led growth.

Post-independence industrial growth

Post-1947, the momentum accelerated. Railway coach manufacturing came to Chennai, heavy electrical equipment manufacturing to Tiruchirappalli and defense vehicle manufacturing to Avadi. Each large public sector unit became an anchor around which entire ecosystems developed. Suppliers, foundries, machine shops, component manufacturers, and small engineering firms grew in concentric circles around these factories.

Through the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, Tamil Nadu quietly but steadily built one of India’s strongest manufacturing bases. Tiruppur emerged as a global knitwear export hub producing 90% of India’s cotton knitwear exports, Karur specialized in home textiles and is knows as the “Textile Capital” of Tamil Nadu, Salem strengthened its position in steel and is referred to as “Steel City of South India”, Erode became synonymous with turmeric and is called “Turmeric City” or “Manjal Maanagaram”, and Coimbatore evolved into a center for precision engineering and pumps.

This was not accidental growth. It was the outcome of continuity, planning, and the consistent strengthening of institutions.

Liberalisation and transformation

The 1991 economic liberalization opened a new chapter for Indian states. Tamil Nadu responded swiftly and decisively. In 1992, it became one of the first states in India to release a comprehensive industrial policy. Land was allocated quickly, approvals were fast-tracked, single-window clearances were implemented, and infrastructure was prepared in advance. Importantly, promises were followed by delivery.

The defining moment came in 1995, when Tamil Nadu won the bid for Ford Motor Company’s first manufacturing facility in India. Competing against several other states, Tamil Nadu prevailed because it was faster, clearer, and more reliable in government procedures. Ford’s arrival triggered a cascade. Hyundai followed, then Nissan, Renault, BMW, and several others. Chennai earned its global moniker as the “Detroit of Asia.”

What stood out was that institutions worked regardless of political changes. Industrial financing bodies, land development corporations, and small industry support agencies continued to function with professionalism and predictability. This institutional stability is one of Tamil Nadu’s greatest but least advertised strengths.

Infrastructure and connectivity

Manufacturing needs three fundamentals: power, transport, and connectivity. Tamil Nadu invested in all three for decades. Electricity reached rural areas early, allowing industries to flourish across districts rather than clustering in one city. Industrial growth spread across urban centers and rural towns alike.

A strong road network connected small cities to ports. Ports on both coasts enabled exports at scale. Cars assembled in Chennai could reach a ship within hours. Today, the state has over 7,000 kilometers of national highways, extensive rail connectivity, seven airports, and major ports supporting global trade.

This distributed model ensured resilience. Growth was not concentrated in one geography or one sector.

Culture and tourism

Beyond industry, Tamil Nadu’s cultural depth and natural diversity make it uniquely positioned for the experience economy. With over 4,00,000 temples, the state is a spiritual powerhouse. Temple tourism is vibrant and deeply embedded in everyday life. Tamil Nadu is also India’s cultural capital, home to one of the world’s oldest living classical languages, rich scientific traditions, and timeless art forms.

Its natural landscapes are remarkably diverse, from the hill stations of Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Coonoor to the Western Ghats, dense forests, pristine beaches, mangroves like Pichavaram, and expansive plains. With India’s second-longest coastline stretching over 1,076 kms, the state offers heritage port towns, marine adventure, and thriving coastal cultures. Five national parks, multiple wildlife and bird sanctuaries, and rich biodiversity make it a haven for eco-tourism.

This combination of connectivity, culture, cuisine, and climate makes Tamil Nadu an emerging destination for tourism, weddings and large-scale celebrations. The market is conducive, supported by strong infrastructure, road connectivity, and a culinary tradition that is both diverse and deeply rooted.

Investing in human capital

Equally important was Tamil Nadu’s sustained investment in people. Engineering colleges, ITIs, and polytechnics multiplied. Technical skills became abundant. The early implementation of the mid-day meal scheme ensured children stayed in school, reducing dropout rates and improving nutrition. Those children are today’s factory workforce, literate, disciplined, and trainable.

The outcomes are striking. Around 80 percent of students complete school. Nearly half of young adults attend college. Tamil Nadu has one of the highest literacy rates in India and one of the strongest primary healthcare networks, with more doctors in primary health centers than most states. These indicators reflect a population that is high on capability, aspiration, and adaptability.

Women have played a transformative role. Over 40 percent of India’s female manufacturing workforce is in Tamil Nadu, powering sectors such as textiles, garments, electronics, and assembly lines. This has had far-reaching social and economic implications, making growth more inclusive and sustainable.

A diversified, future-ready economy

Tamil Nadu never relied on a single industry. Its policies deliberately enabled diversification across textiles, automobiles, electronics, aerospace and defense, semiconductors, life sciences, IT, engineering, renewables, and electric vehicles. Traditional strengths were continuously modernized and integrated into global supply chains. Each sector reinforced the others, spreading risk and deepening supplier networks.

Today, Tamil Nadu is India’s fastest-growing large state economy, having grown by around 11 percent last year when India needs to grow at 8 percent annually to reach developed status by 2047. Manufacturing growth in the state is more than three times the national average. One-fourth of the state’s economy is driven by manufacturing. Tamil Nadu has the highest number of factories in India, accounting for over 15 percent of the country’s total factory count, and 100 percent of its districts are industrially developed.

It is India’s second-largest economy with an estimated GDP of over ₹31 lakh crore. The state is the largest exporter of electronic goods, the largest exporter of textile products, and the second-largest exporter of engineering goods. It produces nearly one-third of India’s textiles and around 40 percent of the country’s electric vehicles. Apple manufactures a significant share of iPhones here. Tamil Nadu leads in cars, two-wheelers, electronics, and technology support jobs.

The next wave of investments

The Tamil Nadu government has articulated ambitious economic goals, including achieving a $1 trillion economy through sustained double-digit growth, industrial expansion, and foreign and domestic investments. Government efforts focus on making the state a preferred destination for global businesses while nurturing SMEs.

Global investors continue to commit tens of billions of dollars to Tamil Nadu. In 2025 alone, the state attracted investments exceeding ₹2 lakh crore, focused on future technologies. Electronics and semiconductors, aerospace and defense, electric mobility, renewable energy, data centers, shipbuilding, and man-made fibres are seeing unprecedented activity.

The state has launched the Tamil Nadu Artificial Intelligence Mission to integrate AI across sectors, improve governance services, and boost technological research and innovation. It is set to host India’s first sovereign AI park, with an investment of around ₹10,000 crore. This initiative is expected to create thousands of high-skilled deep-tech jobs and build a robust, inclusive AI ecosystem rooted in public interest, positioning the state and the country as leaders in scaled AI deployment.

Nationwide plantation drive by The Fern Hotels brings teams together for on-ground sustainability action.

Leadership perspective on the initiative

Speaking on the initiative, Suhail Kannampilly, Managing Director, The Fern Hotels & Resorts, said: “Sustainability is something we practice every day across our hotels, not just on occasions. This Earth Day, seeing 60 of our properties come together to plant over 1,300 saplings was truly special. It’s a simple step, but one that contributes to greener surroundings in the communities we operate in. As we continue to grow, our focus remains clear building hotels that are environmentally responsible while delivering meaningful experiences to our guests.”

Team participation and on-ground impact

By focusing on simple yet meaningful actions, the initiative aligns with The Fern Hotels and Resort’s approach of balancing guest experience with responsibility towards the planet.

EkoStay grows profitably, hits ₹40 crore without external funding

Bootstrapped alternative accommodation brand scales through demand-led expansion, repeat customers, and operational discipline.

April , 2026: EkoStay reported ₹40 crore in revenue for FY 2025–26, reflecting 43% year-on-year growth, while remaining EBITDA-positive with margins of around 10%.

Scale beyond revenue

Beyond revenue, the business has expanded to over 150 professionally managed villas across 12+ leisure destinations, with an average occupancy of 56% and a growing base of repeat customers. The company is targeting ₹52+ crore in revenue in FY27, with plans to scale to 220+ properties nationwide.

A bootstrapped model that prioritised fundamentals over funding

Founded by Husain Khatumdi, Sohail Mirchandani, Varun Arora, and Zishan Khan, EkoStay has been built without raising external capital, relying instead on internal accruals, measured expansion, and sharp operational control.

“Being bootstrapped meant every decision had to be efficient and accountable. That discipline is what continues to define how we scale today,” said Varun Arora, CEO & Co-Founder, EkoStay.

Repeat behaviour, not discounts, driving growth

A defining lever of EkoStay’s growth has been repeat bookings and organic referrals, significantly reducing dependence on paid acquisition channels.

“Consistency in guest experience has been critical in building trust. A large part of our growth today comes from guests who choose to stay with us again or recommend us within their network,” added Sohail Mirchandani, COO & Co-Founder.

This repeat-driven model has allowed the brand to strengthen unit economics while scaling demand in a capital-efficient manner.

Scaling supply where demand already exists

The brand has seen particularly strong growth across South India, including the Nilgiris region, where demand for private villa stays continues to rise alongside evolving travel preferences.

“Our focus has always been on identifying destinations where demand is structurally strong and aligning our supply accordingly,” said Zishan Khan, Chief Acquisition Officer & Co-Founder.

What ₹40 crore represents

It reflects a business built with zero external funding, zero dilution, and no reliance on debt, driven entirely by customer demand and internal reinvestment.

“₹40 crore is not just a revenue milestone, it validates a model that has been built sustainably, with long-term value creation at its core,” said Husain Khatumdi, Managing Director & Co-Founder.

The Lizard King Brewing Co. Puts the Spotlight on Craft Ciders This Summer in Goa

Brewmaster George Jacob is fermenting Himachal apples and Alphonso mangoes the old-fashioned way - no shortcuts, no artificial flavouring - raising the bar on what cider can be at India's first rock 'n' roll microbrewery.

GOA, INDIA, April 2026: Most menus in Goa follow a similar pattern - easy lagers and predictable cocktails. At Lizard King Brewing Co., George Jacob is doing something different. A Brewlab UK-trained brewer with experience across India and the UK, George has built Lizard King Brewing Co. as a process-led microbrewery and brewpub - where what’s on tap matters as much as how it’s made.

This summer, the focus is on two pours: an Apple Cider and a Mango Cider. Both are brewed on site. Both built from real fruit. And both are a clear departure from what’s typically available in Goa.

“Cider is the most lied about drink in India right now. Flavouring, carbonation, a fruit label slapped on: job’s done. That's not cider, that's a con. We brew ours the same way I'd brew anything on this tap list, you earn it through the process or you don't pour it.”, says George Jacob, Brewmaster, Lizard King Brewing Co.

The Apple Cider starts in Himachal Pradesh, where apples are crushed, before being fermented and finished in Goa. A light touch of oak adds structure, keeping it dry, crisp, and properly made - not something flavoured and passed off as cider.

The Mango Cider is built on Alphonso mangoes, with the focus on getting the fermentation right rather than pushing sweetness. Medium-bodied and clean, it delivers depth without excess.

“Alphonsos are the headliner, they don't need help, they command respect. Ferment it right, don't smother it with sweetness, don't drown it in carbonation, and get out of the way. My job is to be the best sound engineer that mango has ever had.”, says George Jacob.

Both ciders are brewed fresh, without artificial flavouring or back-sweetening. At Lizard King, the brewing process isn’t hidden - the tanks sit front and centre, because the craft is part of the experience.

Lizard King Brewing Co., which opened in Arpora in October 2025, is a 28-seater brewpub built around a simple idea: a pub should feel like a working brewery, not a set. Dark wood, industrial steel, and walls layered with rock ‘n’ roll history - from Nirvana to the Stones - set the tone.

The tap list runs eight strong: Pilsner, Best Bitter, Irish Stout, Belgian Wit, Pale Ale, and rotating specials alongside the ciders. The food follows the same thinking: pub classics with intent - Fish & Chips in stout batter, Steak & Onion Pie, Chicken Fried Steak, Ham & Cheese Sandwich and a new menu featuring our guest favourites.

In a market built on shortcuts, Lizard King doesn't do easy. These ciders are the proof, brewed from real fruit, fermented properly, and poured without apology. Come taste the difference.

Beyond the Beach: Bintan Regatta 2026 Blends Sport, Culture and Coastal Experiences

India, April 2026: Bintan Resorts hosted the 4th edition of the Bintan Regatta from April 3–5, 2026, alongside the Festival Jong, bringing together international sailors and offering travellers a unique mix of sport and culture just a short ferry ride from Singapore.

The regatta saw participation from across Europe, Australia and Asia, highlighting Bintan’s growing presence within regional sailing circuits. Known for its steady winds and open waters, the destination continues to attract both seasoned competitors and returning participants. A key highlight this year was the introduction of the Passage Race, a cross-border sailing leg from Singapore to Bintan. For Indian travellers, this adds a compelling dimension—making Bintan an easy extension to a Singapore itinerary while offering a distinctly different experience.

Running alongside the regatta, the Festival Jong added a cultural layer to the event, featuring traditional wind-powered wooden boats that reflect the region’s maritime heritage. Together, the regatta and festival offer something beyond a typical island getaway, bringing together active experiences, cultural insights and a setting that feels both accessible and different from conventional Southeast Asian destinations.

Adding to the overall experience, this year also marked the first turtle release of 2026 at Laguna Beach, held alongside the Jong Festival. Visitors witnessed hatchlings making their way to the South China Sea, offering a rare and memorable moment that brought together nature and conservation within the broader event. Commenting on this, Mr. Abdul Wahab, Chief Operating Officer, Bintan Resorts, said: “Bintan Regatta and Festival Jong highlight how travel today is shifting towards more engaging and diverse experiences. The combination of international sailing and local maritime traditions already offers something distinctive and moments like witnessing turtle hatchlings at Laguna Beach add a more personal and memorable dimension to the visit. With our proximity to Singapore and expanding events calendar, Bintan continues to provide an accessible yet different option for travellers exploring the region.”

Supporting this is Bintan’s steadily growing ecosystem of infrastructure and year-round events. With fixtures such as the Bintan Marathon, Triathlon and Regatta, the destination is moving towards becoming a consistent, all-season option rather than a one-time visit.

The Mango, Reimagined as Couture

There are desserts, and then there are moments.

At Julien, a fashion-forward dessert house that treats indulgence like a seasonal collection rather than a menu, mango is not simply an ingredient. It is a narrative in motion.

This summer, the house unveils its Mango Edit: a tightly curated drop that reframes the familiar fruit through texture, technique, and restraint. Think of it less as a menu and more as a runway. Each piece arrives with its own silhouette, its own mood, its own point of view.

At first glance, the collection feels recognisable. A layered mango entremet, Mango Madness, is offered in small, medium, and large formats, structured yet soft. Beside it sits Mango, Caramelised, a Basque cheesecake taken further into burnished territory, its dark top giving way to a deeper, more complex expression of the fruit. Then there is Not Quite Tiramisu, a gentle disruption of the classic, rewritten through mango rather than tradition. But Julien does not stop at familiarity. It edits. It sharpens. It transforms.

A Seasonal Ritual, Not a Menu

The Mango Edit is conceived as a seasonal ritual, an exploration of how one fruit can evolve across form, texture, and technique.

Here, mango is never repeated in the same way. It is layered into entremets, softened into cream, caramelised into cheesecake, and infused into more playful formats. From everyday indulgences like cookies and tiramisu to more intricate petit gâteaux and celebration cakes, each dessert is built to reveal a different expression of the fruit.

The effect is deliberate. Rather than offering variation for its own sake, the collection allows mango to move across the menu with purpose. It changes shape. It changes mood. It changes texture. What remains constant is intention. That is what makes the edit feel so considered. It is not abundance. It is authorship.

Where Aroma Leads the Experience

At the centre of the collection sits Summer Rewritten, the standout of the drop and perhaps its most intimate piece.

Built around fresh Alphonso mangoes, the cookie layers house-made mango toffee, mango gel, pistachios, and white chocolate into something textured, rich, and quietly theatrical. Only 100 pieces have been created, giving the dessert the rarity of a limited-edition object rather than a standard seasonal launch.

And then comes the detail that shifts the experience entirely: each cookie is paired with an edible mango perfume.

A light mist is sprayed just before the first bite, allowing aroma to arrive before flavour. It is a subtle gesture, but a memorable one, transforming dessert into something more sensory, more atmospheric, more complete. The nose, quite literally, eats first.

It is this kind of precision that defines the Mango Edit. Not loud innovation, but a carefully controlled sense of surprise.

The Story Behind the Drop

What makes the collection compelling is not simply its use of mango, but the discipline with which the ingredient has been interpreted.

The fruit appears across the menu in distinct forms rather than decorative repetition. One dessert highlights its brightness, another its softness, another its darker, caramelised edge. The result is a collection that feels less like a seasonal special and more like a study in contrast.

There is also something emotionally resonant about the choice of mango itself. In India, mango is never just fruit. It is memory, climate, nostalgia, and anticipation. Julien treats that emotional familiarity with care, then filters it through a more modern, editorial lens.

The result is summer, rewritten.

Chef’s Note

Chef Amit Jadhav, Chief of Product & Design at Julien, approaches the collection with the sensibility of a designer as much as a pastry chef. The Mango Edit reflects that balance of structure and feeling, where technique shapes every layer, but the final experience remains expressive, sensual, and deeply personal.

At Julien, dessert is not the end of a meal. It is the beginning of a mood. And with the Mango Edit, that mood is unmistakably summer.

Our Power, Our Planet: How Marriott is Helping Nature Thrive

At Marriott International, caring for the places where we live, work, and travel isn’t just something we focus on once a year; it remains central to how we do business and is guided by our sustainability and social impact platform, Serve 360.

This Earth Day, Marriott is proud to share how our associates, hotels, and guests are helping bring our Serve 360 efforts to life, including through our goal to conduct 35,000 activities that protect, restore, or enhance nature in the communities where we operate by 2030.

From reforestation and marine conservation to responsible operations and community partnerships, we’re proud of the progress we made in 2025:

"The health of our business is deeply connected to the health of our planet. When we protect the environment and invest in our communities, we’re dedicated to helping destinations remain vibrant places to live, work, and visit for generations to come."

- Anthony Capuano, President and CEO, Marriott International

Marriott properties and associates around the world have been dedicating their time and resources to helping nature thrive on land and at sea. Learn more about efforts happening across our Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

On Land: Reforesting Critical Ecosystems – One Tree at a Time

Healthy forests do more than look beautiful, they filter water, cool waterways, stabilize soil, and create shelter for wildlife. In 2025, Marriott helped plant more than 32,500 trees in critical ecosystems across the U.S. Gulf Coast through our engagement with the Arbor Day Foundation. The initiative's aim is to restore a diverse blend of bottomland hardwood and upland pine forests across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi as part of the Gulf Coast Reforestation project. These reforestation efforts support local recovery from hurricanes, coastal flooding, and land-use changes – and help improve regional watershed health by reducing pollution and erosion that can flow into streams and eventually the ocean. As canopy returns along waterways, it can enhance habitat for aquatic species such as mussels, crawfish, oysters, gulf sturgeon, and manatees, while also supporting land-dwelling wildlife like gopher tortoises, eastern indigo snakes, and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.

Through Good Travel by Marriott Bonvoy® and collaboration with China Green Foundation’s Million Forest Project, guests helped reach a milestone of 10,000 shrubs donated to support efforts to combat desertification in Gansu Province, China.

Closer to home in Maryland, we continued to support the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s efforts to plant trees that protect waterways with approximately 4,000 trees planted across the state in 2025, and another 10,000 seedlings potted and nurtured in nurseries for future reforestation.

At Sea: Protecting Coastlines and Marine Life

Coastal ecosystems are powerful and fragile. In Costa Rica, volunteers from W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal and The Westin Reserva Conchal, an All-Inclusive Golf Resort & Spa, supported Back Home, a program dedicated to returning seashells to the sea. Using science, innovation, and collaboration, an artificial intelligence application helps identify whether shells confiscated at the airport belong to the Pacific Ocean or Caribbean Sea so they can be registered and reintegrated into their original habitat. Returning shells helps secure micro-habitats for animals and microorganisms and can help minimize the impacts of coastal erosion.

Across the Caribbean and Latin America region, properties continued year-round programs dedicated to sea turtle conservation. In 2025, these efforts helped support the release of more than 63,000 turtles into their natural habitats.

Marriott is also working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support healthier oceans through the Peru Mahi Mahi Longline Fishery Improvement Project – an effort aimed at strengthening management practices and safeguarding the broader marine ecosystem.

Our Power Is People: Turning Commitment into Action

None of this work happens without people. In 2025, associates, hotels, and Marriott Business Councils reported participating in 7,500 biodiversity-related activities – from clean-ups and ocean conservation to reforestation – reflecting the everyday actions aimed at helping to protect the places where we live, work, and travel. In support of the 2025 World Environment Day, 8,300+ volunteers across 230 hotels supported community and conservation efforts –planting nearly 95,000 trees and more than 11,000 mangroves, alongside activities such as beach clean-ups and coral plantings.

Guests and Marriott Bonvoy members play an important role too. Through the Marriott Bonvoy member Annual Choice Benefit, members helped raise more than $280,000 for World Wildlife Fund to support global conservation efforts. And across our portfolio, stewardship of the natural world continues to be recognized: 93% of U.S. & CALA golf properties and 100% of U.K. golf properties were recognized for environmental management practices by The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf.

Powering a More Resilient Planet Together

From forest restoration projects designed to help strengthen watersheds to protecting the coastlines and marine species that make our oceans thrive, the story is the same: our power is greatest when we act together. This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the associates, guests, owners, members and community partners who are helping to protect biodiversity around the world and are dedicated to continuing to help our planet thrive.

"We remain committed to being thoughtful about how we build, operate, and engage with community stakeholders so our hotels can reduce their environmental impact while continuing to support local ecosystems around the world."

- Robert Guidice, Chief Operations Officer, Marriott International

We believe that each tree planted, shoreline restored, and habitat protected brings Marriott closer to our 2030 Serve 360 goal of 35,000 nature‑positive activities – and reinforces the company’s belief that hospitality can be a force for good.

Hyatt Regency Denver Unveils $70 Million Transformation

Residential-inspired design and thoughtful enhancements usher in a new era for the downtown Denver hotel

CHICAGO (April 2026) Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center proudly announces the completion of its comprehensive $70 million transformation, coinciding with the hotel’s 20-year milestone in the heart of downtown Denver. The renovation introduces a full reimagination of its 1,100 guestrooms and suites alongside new and enhanced gathering spaces, designed to elevate both the guest and local experience. It follows the 2018 and 2019 revitalization of the hotel’s dining venues – including Former Saint Craft Kitchen and Taps, Peaks 27th Floor Lounge and Assembly Hall Bar + Market – as well as its public spaces, with updated design, flexible seating areas and more than 150 works of art by over 50 Colorado-based creators curated in partnership with Nine Dot Arts.

Rooted in a design philosophy of “Slow and True,” the fully transformed guestrooms transition guests from the lively spirit of the city to a calm hush upon entry. Each room features all new hard and soft goods, incorporating natural wood and stone, porcelain and vegan leather—materials that reflect Denver’s natural surroundings, with layered textures and tonal colors creating a balanced, sensory experience. Warm, refined furnishings and soft green accents evoke the Colorado landscape, while thoughtfully integrated elements such as functional under-TV storage, USB-C charging ports, enhanced lighting and spacious work areas offer added convenience for today’s traveler. Select rooms also feature lounge seating oriented toward city and mountain views. Redesigned bathrooms include expansive illuminated mirrors, upgraded vanities, glass-enclosed showers or new bathtubs, and large-format amenities. The result is an airy, welcoming aesthetic inspired by the textures of the Rockies and the city’s urban charm.

Expanding on the hotel’s legacy as a premier meetings destination and adding to its over 60,000 square feet of flexible event space, the renovation also introduces Summit Five, a new 891-square-foot meeting space located on the fifth floor. Designed with a local-first mindset, the space offers an intimate setting ideal for small meetings and gatherings and serves as a natural extension of the Denver City Terrace, a sought-after outdoor venue with city views, allowing for a seamless flow for receptions and social events.

“This transformation represents a meaningful investment in both our physical spaces and the people who bring them to life each day,” said Greg Leonard, general manager of Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. “We’re elevating the guest experience while also supporting our team with an environment designed for long-term success.”

EkoStay Crosses ₹40 Crore in Revenue, Scales to 150+ Villas Across 12+ Cities, Built Entirely Without External Funding

India’s bootstrapped homestay hospitality brand delivers 43% YoY growth, remains EBITDA-positive, and targets 220+ properties with continued double-digit margins

Mumbai,  April 2026: At a time when growth in hospitality startups is often equated with capital raised, EkoStay is charting a fundamentally different trajectory, one anchored in profitability, operational discipline, and consistent guest demand.

The Mumbai-based alternative accommodation brand has reported ₹40 crore in revenue for FY 2025–26, marking a 43% year-on-year growth, while continuing to remain EBITDA-positive with ~10% margins.

But beyond revenue, the scale of the business tells a deeper story.

From its inception in 2018, EkoStay has grown into a network of 150+ professionally managed villas across 12+ leisure destinations, translating into hundreds of operational rooms and guest units serving travellers across India’s most in-demand holiday markets. The brand currently operates at an average occupancy of 56%, with a strong and growing base of repeat customers.

Looking ahead, the company is targeting ₹52+ crore in revenue in FY27, alongside a 30%+ growth trajectory and plans to scale its footprint to 220+ properties nationwide.

This approach has enabled the company to grow sustainably, while maintaining profitability in a segment often characterised by high burn and fragmented supply.

EkoStay’s expansion strategy has remained sharply demand-led, focusing on high-traction leisure micro-markets rather than aggressive, undifferentiated inventory addition.

A Standardised Yet Personalised Hospitality Model

Operating at the intersection of hospitality and vacation rentals, EkoStay combines the reliability of branded hospitality with the privacy and comfort of homestays.

Its model also enables homeowners to unlock value from their properties through professional management, without the operational complexities of hosting, creating a parallel supply pipeline that supports scalable growth.

What ₹40 Crore Represents

For EkoStay, this milestone is not just about topline growth.

Positioned for the Next Phase of Category Growth

India’s alternative accommodation segment is witnessing a structural shift, driven by rising domestic travel and increasing preference for private, curated, and experience-led stays.

With a strong foundation of profitability, repeat demand, and a growing supply base, EkoStay is well-positioned to capitalise on this momentum.

As the company scales towards 220+ properties and ₹52+ crore in revenue, its focus remains clear: disciplined growth, stronger operations, and delivering consistently high-quality guest experiences at scale.

About EkoStay

Founded in 2018, EkoStay is a Mumbai-based alternative accommodation brand offering professionally managed vacation homes across India. Built on a vision to deliver a standardised yet personalised homestay experience, the company operates a portfolio of 150+ curated villas across 12+ leisure destinations, catering to the evolving needs of modern travellers.

EkoStay combines the reliability of branded hospitality with the comfort and privacy of home-like stays, while enabling homeowners to monetise their properties without operational involvement. With a strong focus on customer experience, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth, the company has scaled profitably and remains entirely bootstrapped, driven by internal accruals and repeat demand.

As it expands its footprint towards 220+ properties, EkoStay continues to redefine the vacation rental landscape in India through design-led spaces, consistent service standards, and a guest-first approach.

Raffles Cambodia Unveils Immersive ‘Path of History’ Tour and New History Book

Guests can step back in time to rediscover a golden age of travel at two storied luxury hotels

SIEM REAP, Cambodia (April 2026) – Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, the iconic luxury heritage hotel on the doorstep of ancient Khmer archeological sites in Cambodia, has unveiled an immersive new ‘Path of History’ tour featuring rare photographs, video footage, architectural drawings, and other vintage artefacts that highlight a golden age of travel in Southeast Asia.

The permanent exhibition at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap is complemented by a new history book by authors Andreas and Carola Augustin. A Tale of Two Hotels – Raffles in Cambodia showcases the property alongside Raffles Hotel Le Royal, its sister property in Phnom Penh, while chronicling an era of globe-trotting explorers and thrilling discoveries.

The ‘Grand Path of History’ tour and book both trace the early boom years (1900-1940) of international travel, when passengers boarded steamships bound for the East and the first aircraft took to the skies. It is a story of true pioneers, like the Sarkies brothers in Singapore, whose Raffles brand has epitomised luxury travel for nearly 140 years.

The 160-page book, full of colourful photographs and available in hardcover and paperback, brings readers into Cambodia’s two grandest hotels, Hotel Le Royal and Grand Hotel d’Angkor, and recounts the country’s determined efforts to promote its rich cultural heritage abroad, from the Royal Ballet of Cambodia’s striking debut in Paris at the start of the 20th century to Hollywood actor Charlie Chaplin’s visits to Le Royal and Angkor Wat.

The ‘Grand Path of History’ tour will be available to in-house guests only, with guided visits led by a Raffles historian. The exhibit was curated by Andreas and Carola Augustin.

“We are delighted and honoured to showcase a seminal early period of international travel, when visitors from around the world first discovered the wonders of Cambodia. Our new ‘Grand Path of History’ tour chronicles this story alongside that of Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, whose illustrious 96-year past intertwines with those pioneering arrivals,” said Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor General Manager Joseph Colina.

Dagmar Lyons, General Manager of Raffles Hotel Le Royal, added: “Andreas Augustin’s new book, A Tale of Two Hotels – Raffles in Cambodia, illuminates not only a remarkable chapter in history but also its enduring connection to two of the world’s most iconic hotels. Our properties in Cambodia – Raffles Hotel Le Royal and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor – are historic gems, each with its own extraordinary story.”

Preserving this legacy today, the two Raffles hotels in Cambodia continue to set the benchmark for luxury travel in the region.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal, which originally opened in 1929, today features 175 rooms and suites that underwent a full refurbishment as part of a meticulous one-year restoration project in 2019. The hotel’s elegant past has been reinterpreted in a bold, contemporary style that is inspired by French colonial, Khmer and Art Deco influences.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor opened in 1932 as a rest stop for archeologists and adventurers exploring the ancient kingdom of Angkor Wat. The hotel features an authentic expression of 1930s French Art Deco style with beautifully refined rooms, suites and villas blending old-world charm with Cambodian influences and contemporary detail.

The two properties were among just 10 hotels in Cambodia to be recognised with MICHELIN Keys in the MICHELIN Guide’s inaugural edition in the Southeast Asian country last year. Raffles Hotel Le Royal, in a separate major honour, was voted the No. 2 hotel in Southeast Asia in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.

The two Raffles Cambodia hotels came together last year to unveil an exclusive new 7-day stay package, ‘A Tale of Two Cities’, billed as ‘a journey like no other, where grand history, enchanted glamour and extraordinary adventure entwine’. This seamless multi-city journey perfectly complements the new historical offerings.

The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from the hotel's General Manager, Heads of Departments, and staff members, all of whom actively engaged in planting saplings. The drive aimed not only to enhance the city's green cover but also to inspire a sense of environmental responsibility within the community.

Taking the initiative a step further, Sayaji Kolhapur extended the spirit of Earth Day beyond its premises by gifting plant saplings to its corporate guests. Malaysia Airlines Unveils Mumbai Indians-Themed Aircraft, Taking the Spirit of Mumbai Global

Mumbai, April 2026 – Malaysia Airlines and Mumbai Indians today unveiled a one-of-a-kind aircraft livery, bringing together the iconic blue and gold of one of cricket's most celebrated franchises to the skies with the blues of Malaysia Airlines.

Now featured on Malaysia Airlines’ A330-300, the specially designed livery transforms the aircraft into a bold visual expression of sport, culture and connection - carrying the spirit of Mumbai beyond the stadium and onto the global stage. The design blends the distinctive identities of both brands, featuring a dynamic pulse radiating from the Mumbai Indians emblem and its iconic Chakra, symbolising motion and momentum. Flowing patterns across the aircraft reflect the team’s growing global fanbase, reinforcing Malaysia Airlines’ role as a global carrier connecting people through shared journeys and experiences.

To mark the launch, Malaysia Airlines and Mumbai Indians have released a tribute digital film capturing the vibrant culture of Mumbai, the passion of its fans and the warmth of Malaysian Hospitality.

Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “India remains a key growth market for Malaysia Airlines as we continue to strengthen our presence and connectivity across the region. This collaboration with Mumbai Indians allows us to go beyond traditional aviation partnerships by integrating cultural relevance into our brand experience. It reflects our commitment to building meaningful, long-term connections with customers while reinforcing Malaysia Airlines as a carrier that connects people, places and passions across our global network."

A Mumbai Indians spokesperson added, “Our collaboration with Malaysia Airlines is a powerful expression of how the Mumbai Indians brand continues to travel beyond the game and into culture. Seeing our colours take flight on a global platform is a proud moment, as it connects fans across geographies and brings the spirit of Mumbai to the world. Malaysia Airlines has been a forwardthinking partner of sharing our vision of creating meaningful fan experiences not just in stadiums, but across journeys.”

The dedicated aircraft will begin operating on key routes later this year, connecting fans across India, Asia and beyond. More than a visual statement, the collaboration extends the matchday experience into the journey itself, allowing fans to carry their allegiance wherever they travel.

As part of its broader commitment to driving inbound travel and strengthening Malaysia’s position as a key regional hub, Malaysia Airlines continues to enhance its Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme. The initiative allows eligible international travellers transiting through Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 to explore an additional Malaysian destination at no additional fare (excluding taxes), with access to eight domestic destinations showcasing Malaysia’s cultural, natural and heritage attractions within a single itinerary.

Malaysia Airlines Berhad  201401040794 (1116944-X)

As Malaysia’s national carrier, the airline also continues to support Visit Malaysia 2026 in collaboration with government and industry partners, further enhancing connectivity and reinforcing Malaysia as a destination of choice for travellers from India, Southeast Asia and beyond.

This forms part of Malaysia Airlines’ broader effort to deepen brand visibility in key markets, including its partnership with Mumbai Indians as the Official Global Airline Partner, announced earlier this year. The airline’s branding is featured on the right chest of the team’s jersey, one of the most prominent positions in cricket.
