Manu Vashishth General Manager Bhanwar Singh Palace

I would love to have software that picks up a guest's family photo from his social media and displays it on his room TV as a welcome page as soon as he checks in.

Manu Vashishth

Tell us about your journey. How did it all start?

I come from a doctors family but frankly speaking I was not that great in studies to qualify for MBBS. Hence I chose a different career option and went on to pursue hotel management. Ours was the first 4 years degree batch. I passed out in 2001 and my journey started with KK Royal Days Jaipur and then Taj Jai Mahal Palace Jaipur which were the initial years of my career. Subsequently I went on to work for Fortune Hotels, Jaypee Hotels, Clarks and Radisson hotel group in my tenure. Currently I am working as General Manager for Bhanwar Singh Palace Jaipur since pre opening which is a 155 keys, 3 banquet, 5 lawns luxurious palace hotel. Currently I am also pursuing a Law degree to increase my qualification.

What do you think it takes to succeed in this industry?

As per me it takes a lot of hard word, consistency and some amount of luck to succeed in our industry. I have seen a lot of hard working and consistent people who fail to make it to the top. That’s where the luck comes in. But no matter how good your luck is if you are not hard working and consistent you will never make it.

What are the attributes you look for while selecting or hiring? If someone wants to work with you, what should they do?

Now a days finding quality manpower is the biggest challenge. Our trade’s ground staff have left the industry in vast numbers after mishandling and neglect of employees by most hotel companies during Covid times. So to counter this shortfall we focus on hiring from other sectors as well and them grooming them to do their desired tasks. Less experience employees are quick learners and will quickly pick up the desired attributes. However the senior team members are selected on the basis of their experience, personal attributes and stability.

What advice would you give to a young, aspiring hotelier for their internship?

My advise to them is that hotel industry is now having so many vacancies and so many new hotels open every year. If they commit themselves to the profession and work hard then they have a far better and quicker chance to succeed then we had in our time.

What is the one tech/app/software feature you would like to see?

I would love to have a software that picks up guest family photo from his social media and displays it on his room TV as a welcome page as soon as he checks in.

What is your favorite interview question and why?

Now a days its ‘how soon can you join?’ :)
