SAMHI Announces Majority Investment in RARE India, its first asset light and experiential leisure investment

Gurugram, March 2026: SAMHI Hotels Limited a prominent branded hotel ownership and asset management platform in India, today announced that its board has approved the acquisition of majority stake of 70% in RARE India (“RARE”), one of India’s earliest and largest platform of heritage hotels, retreats and experiential stays. SAMHI expects to enter into definitive agreements by May 2026, marking SAMHI’s entry into the experiential leisure segment through an asset-light platform investment.

In parallel, SAMHI and RARE have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for an affiliation with Marriott International to leverage Marriott’s global distribution strength and loyalty ecosystem. Under this affiliation, RARE would have exclusive rights to operate its portfolio of hotels under the Outdoor Collection brand by Marriott Bonvoy across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, with distribution across Marriott’s worldwide channels. SAMHI expects to enter into definitive agreements with Marriott after the acquisition is complete.

Together, this relationship positions RARE to evolve from a representation platform into a fully integrated B2C distribution and experiential brand platform. RARE will continue to be operated independently by its Founder and team, who remain committed to curate and nurture its distinctive community of heritage and experiential property owners. This partnership allows SAMHI to go beyond borders and expands its portfolio to ~100 hotels in a combination of assets under ownership and affiliation model.

A Legacy Platform with Differentiation and Scale

Founded in 2003 by Shobha Rudra, RARE India (https://www.rareindia.com/) is one of India’s earliest curated experiential hospitality platforms. RARE India has a portfolio of 67 hotels with 990 rooms with a presence across 15+ states in India and international presence in Nepal and Bhutan.

Over two decades, it has built a strong reputation for:

  • Deep focus on responsible tourism, local employment and authentic experiences.

  • A carefully selected portfolio of heritage palaces, wildlife lodges, retreats and boutique properties

  • An enviable community of hospitality entrepreneurs and travellers, who appreciate authentic and responsible tourism.

In an increasingly crowded marketplace of homestays and villa aggregators, RARE stands apart through its legacy, curation discipline, and philosophy-driven growth model. The partnership will enable RARE to accelerate growth while preserving its selective standards and community ethos. There is a very large community of owners and travellers, who are willing to pay a premium to be away from the ordinary, they will continue to prefer to be RARE. This provides a tremendous opportunity for the community to keep growing.

A Strategic, Asset-Light Adjacency for SAMHI

SAMHI’s commitment is expected to be ~INR470mn which includes primary infusion in RARE India and a small part towards part purchase of shares from existing holders. The primary capital contribution will be deployed towards creating value through strengthening management capabilities, technology and distribution upgrades, and expanding marketing and brand reach to support RARE’s next phase of growth.

Consistent with its time-tested strategy, SAMHI has identified value in an underappreciated operating platform with strong brand equity and growth potential. The investment represents a significant divergence from the valuation of asset-light platforms investments globally and in India. This marks SAMHI’s first asset-light platform investment in leisure hospitality enabling meaningful participation in a high-growth segment without altering its core balance sheet strategy of scaling its business hotel portfolio in India’s key office and gateway markets.

The structure ensures a small capital exposure with asymmetrical return potential as the strategy is asset light, and significant long-term upside driven by distribution expansion, technology integration and brand strengthening.

Management Commentary

Commenting on the development, Ashish Jakhanwala, Chairman & Managing Director, SAMHI Hotels Ltd., said:

“This investment in RARE India is a strategic adjacency that strengthens our platform without distracting from our core focus on business and gateway markets. RARE represents a combination of legacy, credibility and scalable asset-light potential. With a strong proven founding team, an irreplaceable community of owners and the proposed affiliation with Marriott, we believe RARE can emerge as a leading B2C brand in experience-led tourism. Importantly, this is a small financial investment but with asymmetrical return potential – consistent with our philosophy of discovering value in underappreciated opportunities.”

Ms. Shobha Rudra, Founder, RARE India, added:

“RARE India has always been built on relationships, trust and a shared commitment to responsible tourism. This partnership with SAMHI allows us to remain true to our philosophy and continue to preserve and build the RARE community of hotel owners and discerning travellers. Together, we aim to strengthen the foundation of the RARE community and scale our impact.”

Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International added:

“India’s experiential and heritage-led hospitality segment represents a significant long-term opportunity. RARE has built a distinctive portfolio rooted in authenticity and responsible tourism. Through this collaboration, we look forward to extending our global distribution platform and Marriott Bonvoy ecosystem to a highly curated collection of unique stays. Together with SAMHI and RARE, we aim to unlock incremental demand and broaden access to immersive travel experiences across India and the region.”

Airbnb highlights how Indian women shaped travel trends in 2025

Key Takeaways

  • Almost 30% of Airbnb hosts in India are women, with almost 35% of Guest Favourite listings in India hosted by women - showcasing their excellence in hospitality.

  • North Goa, Bengaluru, Gurugram, South Goa and Pune were the top-searched domestic destinations for Indian female travelers in 2025.

  • Internationally, Dubai, London, Bangkok, Paris and Rome were the top-searched destinations for Indian female travelers in 2025.

  • Duo travel emerged as the most popular trip type amongst Indian female travelers, followed by group trips.

National, March, 2026: This International Women’s Day, Airbnb is celebrating the growing community of women hosts and travellers who are driving hospitality and travel trends across India. Nearly 30% of Airbnb hosts in India are women, and they manage almost 35% of Guest Favourite listings, highlighting their impact in delivering exceptional guest experiences and shaping local tourism.

Embracing this year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain’, Airbnb recognizes the role women play in strengthening communities through hosting and travel. By sharing their homes, culture and local knowledge, women hosts are creating economic opportunities not only for themselves but also for their communities.

Highlighting Airbnb’s commitment to enabling women entrepreneurs across India, Amanpreet Singh Bajaj, Airbnb’s Country Head for India and Southeast Asia, said “Women who host are not just building successful businesses, but also strengthening local economies and communities. When women share their homes, skills and stories, they create opportunities not just for themselves, but for others around them. In turn, guests contribute to local livelihoods, helping circulate value deeper into communities. When women thrive, entire communities benefit.”

Beyond hosting, Indian women travelers are also increasingly shaping travel trends on Airbnb. Duo travel followed by small group trips remained the most popular trip type amongst Indian women travelers. In terms of destinations, internationally Dubai, London, Bangkok, Paris, Ubud, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Rome were the most searched destinations for Indian women travelers in 2025. Domestically, North and South Goa, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Jaipur, Gurugram, and Pune District were the most searched destinations.

Beyond established hotspots, women travellers are increasingly exploring emerging and culturally rich destinations. Dakshina Kannada and Mathura both recorded approximately 50% year-on-year increase in bookings, signalling rising interest in spiritual, heritage and nature-led travel. Internationally, the town of Kazbegi in Georgia recorded an over 100% year-on-year increase in bookings on Airbnb.

This growing momentum toward emerging and off-beat destinations reflects a broader shift among women travellers toward more intentional, experience-led journeys,  where travel not only creates personal memories but also supports local communities and smaller tourism ecosystems.

Airbnb has also been working to strengthen this ecosystem through initiatives such as the Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy in Goa, the first of its kind in India. The program equips aspiring homestay entrepreneurs with skills in hospitality, business fundamentals and sustainable hosting, with a dedicated focus on empowering women and supporting rural communities. Many of the organizations in India receiving donations from the Airbnb Community Fund this year also work to advance opportunities for women.

Sharing her journey, Babita, a Host in Uttarakhand who upskilled through the Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy, said, “Before the Airbnb Academy training, we were running a homestay without really knowing how. Airbnb taught us important skills like how to register, how to host, and how to share our culture. It gave me the confidence to grow my small idea into a sustainable livelihood .”

This International Women’s Day, Airbnb continues its commitment to creating more inclusive opportunities for women. Through hosting and travel, women across India are helping build stronger local economies while contributing to a more diverse and resilient tourism landscape.

Cleartrip | Data Insights on How Indian Women are Travelling Today

Women today are:

·       Planning earlier

·       Choosing digital-first payment methods

·       Customising their journeys

·       Exploring destinations beyond traditional comfort zones

PeekABoo, Cleartrips travel trends tracker, has noticed a powerful shift in how Indian women are travelling more independently, more intentionally, and with greater control over their journeys.

One of the strongest trends emerging is the rise of all-women international group travel, which has surged by nearly 36% YoY.

At the same time, solo international women travellers are displaying stronger planning behaviour and greater spend confidence. There has been a 40% rise in UPI usage and a 17% increase in credit card transactions, indicating higher digital adoption and direct control over payments.

Beyond bookings, women travellers are investing more in comfort and preparedness:

  • 34% increase in pre-booked meals

  • 23.7% rise in seat selection

  • 33.2% growth in baggage add-ons

Where are they travelling?

On the international front, destinations like Dubai, Denpasar (Bali), London, Colombo, and Singapore are leading the charts. These locations offer a mix of short-haul accessibility, strong connectivity, safety perception, and experience-driven itineraries.

Interestingly, the highest outbound departures are originating from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, pointing to strong participation from metro-based working professionals and urban travellers.

Domestically, there are also sharp spikes in travel interest beyond traditional leisure circuits. Cities like Ghaziabad (Hindon), Gorakhpur, and Darbhanga have seen significant booking jumps, reflecting how air connectivity is opening up newer routes and enabling women to travel more frequently across regions.

Where are they opting to stay?

Budget and mid-range hotels remain the most preferred accommodation segment.

With measurable income uplift targets and region-specific interventions, it moves beyond training to structured economic integration.

Real empowerment rarely makes noise. It builds quietly in training rooms, on factory floors, inside boardrooms, across farms and field routes. It changes who shows up, who participates and who leads. When the organisations choose to build systems instead of slogans, the impact outlives the occasion. Empowerment isn’t an annual celebration it’s a structural shift in who gets to shape the future

From Factory Floors to Farmlands: Women Are Rewriting the Rules

March 2026, Mumbai: International Women’s Day is increasingly becoming a reflection point for long-term structural change rather than a symbolic celebration. Across sectors, companies are institutionalising women’s empowerment through defined programmes creating access, building skills, and redesigning systems to enable sustained participation.

Aviation to Agriculture to Manufacturing and FMCG, here are six structured initiatives advancing women’s representation and economic participation in measurable ways.

  1. IndiGo -Women Empowerment Under IndiGoReach: Through its CSR arm, the airline has built a large-scale livelihood programme focused on improving income and decision-making power among women and transgender individuals. By forming over 5,200 Self Help Groups and enabling micro-entrepreneurship across agriculture and non-agriculture sectors, the initiative combines skill development with institutional strengthening. With measurable income uplift targets and region-specific interventions, it moves beyond training to structured economic integration.

  2. PepsiCo India- RevolutioNari Conference & Awards: PepsiCo India’s RevolutioNari platform recognises and strengthens the role of women in agriculture. Designed as both a recognition and ecosystem-building forum, it convenes farmers, policymakers and sector experts under one structured platform. Stated ambition to empower one million women, the initiative integrates awards, dialogue and capacity-building positioning women as leaders across.

  3. Godrej Foods – WINGS: Godrej Food’s WINGS programme addresses gender gaps in frontline and field roles. The initiative recruits' women agricultural graduates through campus outreach and provides structured classroom and field immersion training. Given the mentorship support and defined pathways into operational roles, WINGS institutionalises entry and progression in segments traditionally dominated by men strengthening representation across the value chain.

Shangri-La Eros New Delhi Presents Women's Day Campaign Equal>Exceptional: A Thoughtful Reflection on Equality

(New Delhi, March 2026) Shangri-La Eros New Delhi introduces Equal > Exceptional, a Women’s Day initiative aligned with the global theme Give To Gain. The initiative highlights a simple belief - workplaces grow stronger when opportunities are shared, voices are heard, and individuals are recognised for the roles they play every day. The root of Equal > Exceptional is to advocate a clear perspective: women should not have to be considered exceptional in order to be recognised equally. In everyday conversations, roles are often described with gender qualifiers such as “woman leader,” “woman driver,” or even “woman security,” while the same professions remain unqualified when referring to men. Through this, Shangri-La Eros New Delhi endorses a simple belief that roles speak for themselves and equality should simply be the natural norm.

The initiative is illustrated through a powerful film that captures the many moments where leadership, responsibility and expertise come together to shape the guest experience at the hotel. Through scenes of decision-making, collaboration and professional precision, the film reflects how strength is often measured not in titles, but in the actions and standards upheld each day. Across Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, this strength is reflected in the many roles women lead and contribute to - from leadership and finance to human resources, culinary teams, guest engagement and security. Whether guiding teams, shaping guest experiences, leading kitchens or ensuring safety across the property, their work defines how skill, responsibility and leadership come together across every function of the hotel.

At Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, we believe that workplaces become stronger when individuals are supported with equal opportunity and recognised for their contributions,” said Abhishek Sadhoo, General Manager of Shangri-La Eros New Delhi. “Through Equal > Exceptional, we celebrate the many professionals who shape our everyday experiences and reinforce a culture where equality empowers people to lead, contribute and grow.”

Known for its refined hospitality and thoughtful leadership, Shangri-La Eros New Delhi continues to nurture a culture where opportunity, trust and collaboration allow individuals to flourish. With Equal > Exceptional, the hotel honours its faith that when opportunity is shared across every craft, every floor and every function, equality becomes the foundation for progress.

KOKO, Mumbai’s popular Asian Dining Restaurant, expands its footprint to Goregaon at Oberoi Garden City

The renowned luxury Asian dining restaurant by Pebble Street Hospitality has expanded its Mumbai presence with the launch of its second restaurant at International Business Park, Oberoi Garden City. Marking the brand’s fourth restaurant across India, this opening brings KOKO’s signature high-energy, share-style dining to the city’s western suburbs — an immersive blend of luxury, sophistication, and indulgence, complemented by exquisite Cantonese-Japanese cuisine and unforgettable experiences.

KOKO's 5,500 sq ft Goregaon outlet welcomes 116 guests, engaging office-goers, residents, and Mumbai's urban community. Seamlessly transitioning from day to night, this dynamic multi-zone venue delivers layered, immersive experiences. Lavish mouldings, radiant lighting, and expansive glazing frame statement artworks and origami-inspired fixtures. Zones crafted with varying scale, light, and texture invite fresh discoveries with each visit.

The site’s curved wall becomes a striking cocktail lounge backdrop, operating independently for private events without disturbing the main dining space. Asian-inspired furniture, fabrics, and motifs — reimagined contemporarily — create refined luxury rooted in Mumbai's urban pulse.

Led by Chef Eric Sifu and KOKO’s expert team, the menu unfolds with refined Cantonese-Japanese artistry, harmonising signature indulgences, elevated vegetarian dishes, and a meticulously curated Jain menu. From the celebrated KOKO Signature Roll and vibrant Hamachi Maki to the opulent Lobster & Caviar Dumpling, perfectly rendered Crispy Pork Belly, and the timeless Peking Duck with Pancakes, each plate is a study in depth, balance, and precision. The vegetarian repertoire is equally distinguished, showcasing the elegant KOKO Golden Maki, aromatic Wild Morel & Truffle Dumpling, nuanced Gonjon’s Turnip Cake with Garlic, indulgent Edamame Truffle Money Bag, layered South East Asian Red Curry, and the umami-laden Edamame Black Rice with Burnt Garlic. Thoughtfully extending this philosophy of inclusivity, KOKO presents a dedicated Jain selection — crafted without onion, garlic, or root vegetables — featuring the delicate KOKO Signature Carpaccio (Tender Coconut), refined Spicy Poached Dumpling, indulging Broccoli Creamy Planta with Bird’s Eye Chilli, rich Silken Tofu with Chilli Black Bean, classic Hong Kong Soy Noodles, and the decadent Hazelnut Crunch Fingers — culminating in a culinary narrative that is sophisticated, inclusive, and unmistakably KOKO.

Desserts such as The ‘Forbidden’ Fruit, Coffee Pecan Nut Mousse, and the classic Salted Caramel Crème Brûlée offer a refined finish.  The culinary experience is complemented by a dynamic cocktail menu featuring the playful Kandy Floss, the elegant Bombyx Mori, the theatrical Agave Nest, and the bold Tom Yum Cup. A curated premium sake selection, including Mikadomatsu Junmai Ginjo and Hakushika Tokubetsu Yamadanishiki Honjozo, further enhances the offering.

Speaking about the launch, Ryan Tham & Keenan Tham, Founders of Pebble Street Hospitality, said in a joint statement, “KOKO Goregaon captures the western suburbs' vibrant momentum. Nestled in prestigious Oberoi Garden City, we've created a refined haven for office professionals, corporate honchos powering through lunches, luxury residents enjoying after-work cocktails, and suburban families savoring memorable dinners amid Goregaon's corporate-residential surge. Every element from cuisine craftsmanship to design details reflects our commitment to elevated, immersive guest experiences”.

KOKO Goregaon is more than a restaurant — it’s an invitation to reimagine luxury Asian dining through sophistication, artistry, and elegance. As Goregaon’s premier luxury Asian destination, KOKO sets a bold standard — delivering an unforgettable journey of taste, culture, and design.

Karnataka Tourism Society Expands Destination Promotion B2B Roadshow Campaign to Andhra Pradesh & Telangana

Bengaluru, March 2026: The Karnataka Tourism Society (KTS) is set to host its next series of Destination Promotion B2B Roadshows in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Hyderabad from 9th to 11th March 2026, organized in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd. (JLR), with the initiative aimed at deepening regional partnerships, catalyzing domestic inbound travel, and further strengthening Karnataka’s tourism footprint across South India.

A total of 45 stakeholders from Karnataka will actively participate in the B2B sessions, engaging with travel trade counterparts in each city. The roadshows will feature destination presentations, promotional video screenings, and interactive sessions showcasing Karnataka’s diverse tourism circuits—from heritage towns and hill stations to wildlife sanctuaries, eco-tourism experiences, and adventure tourism offerings.

Building on the momentum from the recently concluded Central India B2B Roadshow Series across Indore, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Pune—which attracted 700 buyers and 32 stakeholders—this success follows the Southern India Roadshows that engaged over 500 buyers and 45 stakeholders. The upcoming Andhra Pradesh & Telangana series is expected to further consolidate Karnataka’s position as a leading tourism destination in the domestic market.

Mr. K. Syama Raju, President of Karnataka Tourism Society, said:
“Karnataka continues to offer an extraordinary year-round tourism experience, with globally recognized attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, pristine beaches, lush forests, and vibrant wildlife. These roadshows are a strategic step to strengthen Karnataka’s visibility among the travel trade in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while fostering new partnerships and unlocking fresh opportunities for domestic tourism growth.”

Mr. D. Venkatesan, Regional Director (South), Indiatourism Chennai, added:
“I had the privilege of attending the South India series of roadshows and was truly taken aback by the overwhelming response it received. Domestic tourism remains the backbone of India’s tourism economy, and initiatives like these B2B roadshows are vital to enhancing inter-state tourism cooperation under the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign. Karnataka’s diverse portfolio of tourism products makes it one of the most dynamic states for both leisure and business travel, and these events provide an excellent platform for stakeholders to reconnect with the travel trade and engage meaningfully with prospective tourists.”

Looking ahead, KTS plans to expand its outreach through programs such as Discover Bidar FAM Tour, Explore Kalyana Karnataka, and upcoming roadshows in key cities of Gujarat in August 2026. Additionally, Discover Chikkamagalur, a standalone destination promotion event, will highlight the region’s unique offerings and further strengthen Karnataka’s national tourism footprint.

Warm Regards,

H. Jagadeesh
