From Factory Floors to Farmlands: Women Are Rewriting the Rules

March 2026, Mumbai: International Women’s Day is increasingly becoming a reflection point for long-term structural change rather than a symbolic celebration. Across sectors, companies are institutionalising women’s empowerment through defined programmes creating access, building skills, and redesigning systems to enable sustained participation.

Aviation to Agriculture to Manufacturing and FMCG, here are six structured initiatives advancing women’s representation and economic participation in measurable ways.

  1. IndiGo -Women Empowerment Under IndiGoReach: Through its CSR arm, the airline has built a large-scale livelihood programme focused on improving income and decision-making power among women and transgender individuals. By forming over 5,200 Self Help Groups and enabling micro-entrepreneurship across agriculture and non-agriculture sectors, the initiative combines skill development with institutional strengthening. With measurable income uplift targets and region-specific interventions, it moves beyond training to structured economic integration.

  2. PepsiCo India- RevolutioNari Conference & Awards: PepsiCo India’s RevolutioNari platform recognises and strengthens the role of women in agriculture. Designed as both a recognition and ecosystem-building forum, it convenes farmers, policymakers and sector experts under one structured platform. Stated ambition to empower one million women, the initiative integrates awards, dialogue and capacity-building positioning women as leaders across.

  3. Godrej Foods – WINGS: Godrej Food’s WINGS programme addresses gender gaps in frontline and field roles. The initiative recruits' women agricultural graduates through campus outreach and provides structured classroom and field immersion training. Given the mentorship support and defined pathways into operational roles, WINGS institutionalises entry and progression in segments traditionally dominated by men strengthening representation across the value chain.

  4. Tata Motors – All Women Car Assembly Line: In a significant workforce redesign move, Tata Motors operationalised India’s first all-women car assembly line at its Pune facility. The initiative integrates technical training, redesigned shopfloor infrastructure and residential support systems. By embedding women in core manufacturing roles rather than peripheral functions, the programme signals structural inclusion within heavy industry operations.

  5. Dabur CSR Initiative for Women Empowerment: Dabur’s rural empowerment initiatives focus on livelihood diversification and entrepreneurship support for women across multiple states. The Skill Development Centres and structured Self-Help Group formation, the programme enables vocational training, financial literacy and access to credit. The approach combines capability-building with income generation frameworks to support long-term economic independence.

  6. Canon India – She #CANwithCanon: Canon India’s She #CANwithCanon initiative centres on workplace equity and professional advancement. The programme integrates mentorship, leadership pathways to strengthen internal representation. Given the structured flexibility models, safety measures and well-being programmes, the initiative embeds inclusion within organisational culture rather than positioning it as a standalone campaign.

Real empowerment rarely makes noise. It builds quietly in training rooms, on factory floors, inside boardrooms, across farms and field routes. It changes who shows up, who participates and who leads. When the organisations choose to build systems instead of slogans, the impact outlives the occasion. Empowerment isn’t an annual celebration it’s a structural shift in who gets to shape the future

Shangri-La Eros New Delhi Presents Women's Day Campaign Equal>Exceptional: A Thoughtful Reflection on Equality

(New Delhi, March 2026) Shangri-La Eros New Delhi introduces Equal > Exceptional, a Women’s Day initiative aligned with the global theme Give To Gain. The initiative highlights a simple belief - workplaces grow stronger when opportunities are shared, voices are heard, and individuals are recognised for the roles they play every day. The root of Equal > Exceptional is to advocate a clear perspective: women should not have to be considered exceptional in order to be recognised equally. In everyday conversations, roles are often described with gender qualifiers such as “woman leader,” “woman driver,” or even “woman security,” while the same professions remain unqualified when referring to men. Through this, Shangri-La Eros New Delhi endorses a simple belief that roles speak for themselves and equality should simply be the natural norm.

The initiative is illustrated through a powerful film that captures the many moments where leadership, responsibility and expertise come together to shape the guest experience at the hotel. Through scenes of decision-making, collaboration and professional precision, the film reflects how strength is often measured not in titles, but in the actions and standards upheld each day. Across Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, this strength is reflected in the many roles women lead and contribute to - from leadership and finance to human resources, culinary teams, guest engagement and security. Whether guiding teams, shaping guest experiences, leading kitchens or ensuring safety across the property, their work defines how skill, responsibility and leadership come together across every function of the hotel.

At Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, we believe that workplaces become stronger when individuals are supported with equal opportunity and recognised for their contributions,” said Abhishek Sadhoo, General Manager of Shangri-La Eros New Delhi. “Through Equal > Exceptional, we celebrate the many professionals who shape our everyday experiences and reinforce a culture where equality empowers people to lead, contribute and grow.”

Known for its refined hospitality and thoughtful leadership, Shangri-La Eros New Delhi continues to nurture a culture where opportunity, trust and collaboration allow individuals to flourish. With Equal > Exceptional, the hotel honours its faith that when opportunity is shared across every craft, every floor and every function, equality becomes the foundation for progress.

Karnataka Tourism Society Expands Destination Promotion B2B Roadshow Campaign to Andhra Pradesh & Telangana

Bengaluru, March 2026: The Karnataka Tourism Society (KTS) is set to host its next series of Destination Promotion B2B Roadshows in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Hyderabad from 9th to 11th March 2026, organized in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd. (JLR), with the initiative aimed at deepening regional partnerships, catalyzing domestic inbound travel, and further strengthening Karnataka’s tourism footprint across South India.

A total of 45 stakeholders from Karnataka will actively participate in the B2B sessions, engaging with travel trade counterparts in each city. The roadshows will feature destination presentations, promotional video screenings, and interactive sessions showcasing Karnataka’s diverse tourism circuits—from heritage towns and hill stations to wildlife sanctuaries, eco-tourism experiences, and adventure tourism offerings.

Building on the momentum from the recently concluded Central India B2B Roadshow Series across Indore, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Pune—which attracted 700 buyers and 32 stakeholders—this success follows the Southern India Roadshows that engaged over 500 buyers and 45 stakeholders. The upcoming Andhra Pradesh & Telangana series is expected to further consolidate Karnataka’s position as a leading tourism destination in the domestic market.

Mr. K. Syama Raju, President of Karnataka Tourism Society, said:
“Karnataka continues to offer an extraordinary year-round tourism experience, with globally recognized attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, pristine beaches, lush forests, and vibrant wildlife. These roadshows are a strategic step to strengthen Karnataka’s visibility among the travel trade in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while fostering new partnerships and unlocking fresh opportunities for domestic tourism growth.”

Mr. D. Venkatesan, Regional Director (South), Indiatourism Chennai, added:
“I had the privilege of attending the South India series of roadshows and was truly taken aback by the overwhelming response it received. Domestic tourism remains the backbone of India’s tourism economy, and initiatives like these B2B roadshows are vital to enhancing inter-state tourism cooperation under the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign. Karnataka’s diverse portfolio of tourism products makes it one of the most dynamic states for both leisure and business travel, and these events provide an excellent platform for stakeholders to reconnect with the travel trade and engage meaningfully with prospective tourists.”

Looking ahead, KTS plans to expand its outreach through programs such as Discover Bidar FAM Tour, Explore Kalyana Karnataka, and upcoming roadshows in key cities of Gujarat in August 2026. Additionally, Discover Chikkamagalur, a standalone destination promotion event, will highlight the region’s unique offerings and further strengthen Karnataka’s national tourism footprint.

Warm Regards,

H. Jagadeesh

Hotel, Industry and Farmers Partnerships is Critical for Mutual Growth: Agriculture Secretary

New Delhi, November 2025: Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, today urged the hospitality industry to forge direct, structured, and long-term partnerships with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), calling such collaborations indispensable for ensuring consistent access to high-quality agricultural produce.

Addressing the FPO–Hospitality & Farmers’ Benefit Summit 2025, organised by the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), he emphasized that direct FPO–hotel linkages would form a powerful win-win model—boosting farmers’ incomes while enabling hotels to source premium, largely chemical-free ingredients.

Mr. Chaturvedi highlighted that India now hosts nearly 40,000 FPOs, many offering produce that naturally aligns with the hospitality sector’s rising demand for clean, safe, and sustainable food. He underscored that farmers continue to face an inverted pricing cycle—buying inputs at retail prices but selling produce at wholesale—an imbalance that can be corrected only through direct procurement partnerships with hotels.

Reiterating the Prime Minister’s call for stronger agriculture–industry collaborations, he noted that such partnerships would reduce middlemen, secure supply chains, raise farmer profitability, and enable the hospitality sector to expand GDP contribution and employment.

He added that the Government is promoting organic farming, GI-tagged products, and responsible tourism, citing the Kumarakom Model in Kerala as a benchmark for sustainable industry–community integration.

Speaking at the Summit, Mr. Suman Billa, Additional Secretary & Director General, Ministry of Tourism, said India needs a fast-tracked, structured farmer–hotel partnership architecture. Such a model, he noted, would accelerate the Government’s vision while uplifting rural livelihoods and strengthening tourism-driven value chains.

FHRAI President Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal reaffirmed the readiness of hotels to procure directly from FPOs—provided supply is consistent and quality-assured.
Mr. M. P. Bezbaruah, Secretary-General, HAI, reiterated the long-standing demand for granting infrastructure status to hotels to unlock broader development opportunities.

Industry leaders including Mr. Rahool Macarius (Wyndham Hotels & Resorts), Mr. Vishvapreet Singh Cheema (Lemon Tree Hotels), and Ms. Ankita Jaiswal (HRANI & UPHRA) also shared insights during the inaugural session.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks on behalf of FHRAI and HRANI, Mr. Garish Oberoi expressed gratitude to Chief Guest Shri Devesh Chaturvedi for his policy direction and to Guest of Honour Shri Suman Billa for reinforcing the tourism sector’s commitment to rural linkages.

He offered a special acknowledgment to Ms. Maninder Kaur DwivediAdditional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, whose strategic guidance, conceptual leadership, and cross-ministerial coordination shaped the Summit’s theme and made the collaboration possible.

He thanked distinguished guests

Mr. M. P. Bezbaruah, Secretary-General, HAI
Mr. Ajay Bakaya, Managing Director, Sarovar Hotels
Mr. Vishvapreet Singh Cheema, President, Lemon Tree Hotels
• Mr. Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director – Eurasia, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts

He also extended appreciation to Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, President FHRAI, and Ms. Ankita Jaiswal, Chairperson, Sustainable & Responsible Tourism (HRANI & UPHRA), for their leadership in bringing stakeholders together.

He thanked all ministries, FPO representatives, panellists, hospitality leaders, media, and the Le Meridien team for their support and participation. A focused technical session moderated by food writer Mr. Sourish Bhattacharyya delivered a clear operational blueprint for implementing a national farm-to-hospitality supply chain.

Key contributors included

Ms. Asha Sota (MoAFW),
Mr. Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya (Ekgaon Group),
Mr. Kirti Prasanna Mishra (Ecociate Consultants),
Mr. Ashwni Kumar Goela (Radisson Hotel Group),
Ms. Meena Bhatia (Le Meridien, New Delhi),
Chef Davinder Kumar and Chef Rakesh Sethi.

This framework marks one of India’s first aligned, multi-stakeholder national blueprints for integrating farmers with the hospitality supply chain.

A major highlight of the Summit was FHRAI’s curated exhibition featuring 50 FPOs from 17 states, showcasing an extensive range of regional and GI-tagged products — including yellow tea, Kashmiri mamra almonds, Himalayan saffron, makhana, black turmeric, forest honey, katarni rice, and Kandhamal haldi. The exhibition demonstrated India’s agricultural diversity and offered FPOs unprecedented visibility into institutional market requirements.

Thiruvananthapuram, 2025: India’s first Wedding and MICE Conclave, to be held in Kochi from August 14 to 16, will act as a B2B networking platform for the integrated development of the tourism sector in the state, Tourism Minister Shri Mohamed Riyas said today.

The Minister was addressing a press conference here at the Mascot Hotel on Tuesday to  outline the progress of the conclave being organized by Kerala Travel Mart Society (KTM  Society) in collaboration with the State Tourism Department.

Tourism Secretary Shri K. Biju, Shri Jose Pradeep, President, KTM (Kerala Travel Mart) Society, KTM Society Secretary Shri S. Swaminathan, Immediate Past President Shri Baby  Mathew Somatheeram, and former presidents Shri E. M. Najeeb and Shri Abraham George  also attended the press meet.

So far 360 buyers from within the country and 40 from abroad have registered for the  conclave, which is expected to go up in the coming days. Also 65 sellers who are part of the  MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) Wedding sector have also  registered for the event.

“The conclave aims to tap Kerala’s potential in this fast-growing segment, leveraging the  state’s unique advantages to transform it into a global MICE and wedding tourism hub,”  said Shri Riyas.

The inaugural session of the conclave will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Bolgatty Island,  Kochi on August 14 at 5 pm. The business meetings and exhibitions on the subsequent days  will be held at Le Meridien.

Recalling the government’s farsighted efforts to sustain and develop tourism sector during  the Covid Pandemic, Shri Riyas said ‘Tourism Department has since then done extensive

marketing to showcase Kerala’s potential for destination wedding and MICE tourism in  other states and countries.’

“Our efforts saw success as an estimated 1000 destination weddings were conducted in  various tourist locations across Kerala in the last year alone,” said Shri Riyas.

‘When we examine the post Covid era, the graph of tourist inflow in the state is higher than  global and national average, the minister noted.

Apart from the natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, panoramic beaches, back waters and a  host of other factors including world class hospitality, infrastructure and road connectivity  make Kerala a highly promising destination for wedding and MICE tourism, he said.

Other than five-star hotels and resorts, tourism department will focus on the development  of home stays, PWD rest houses and tourism guest houses to attract more tourists into the  state as part of the integrated development of the sector, he noted.

KTM and Tourism Department with the help of private enterprises facilitate a seamless and  enjoyable experience for tourists who visit the state for destination wedding and MICE  tourism, the minister said.

Development of the tourism sector and a steady surge in tourist arrivals will propel the  overall social and financial condition of the society. From auto drivers to resort owners,  everyone involved will have the opportunity to prosper, said Riyas.

The upcoming conclave comes in the wake of the state government’s major plans to make  the state a major destination of wedding and honeymoon tourism, as announced by Chief  Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan while inaugurating the last edition of Kerala Travel Mart  (KTM-2024).

“With ‘Center Stage Kerala’ as the focal theme, the conclave seeks to leverage Kerala’s  reputation as one of world’s most-preferred destinations to ramp up MICE and Wedding  Tourism, said Jose Pradeep.

“The conference will bring together organizers of wedding, corporate conferences,  operators of large convention centers and tourism and hospitality service providers under  a single umbrella, for a calibrated promotion of the segment,” he added.

The meet will host training camps, innovative marketing strategies, logistics and  technology deployment in collaboration with large MICE and wedding companies, besides  using local supply chain.

The exhibition on the sidelines of the event will serve as a platform for businesses with  extensive experience in the MICE sector to showcase their products. Wedding planners,  luxury resorts, destination wedding venues, floral designers, photographers, catering units,  and bridal services providers will have the opportunity to display their talent.

The buyers coming for the conference will be taken to places across the state such as Kochi,  Munnar, Kumarakom, Kollam, Kovalam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Bekal.

The meet will prominently showcase attractive wedding tourism sites such as beaches,  backwaters and mountains. Cultural heritage, ancient architecture and delicious cuisine  will also be integrated with the event’s theme.

The business meetings at the conclave will be held as per a schedule prepared in advance.  The event will hold expert-led training workshops and exhibitions of all the attractions that  Kerala has to offer in the wedding industry.

There will be business meetings from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on August 15 and 16, besides  seminars with the participation of international experts.
