IHM Ranchi Successfully organised of Annual Sports Festival ‘SPARDHA–2K25’.

The Annual sports festival of Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Ranchi Spardha–2K25 culminated with a grand award ceremony on 22.11.2025. The two week long annual sports event witnessed a tremendous and enthusiastic participation from the students. The closing ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, as the Chief Guest. The distinguished guests included Mr. James Muntode, General Manager, Hotel Marriott Courtyard Ranchi, Mr. Chandrakant Raipat, CMD, Rameshwaram Group, and Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi.

 

The valedictory event commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting by the Chief Guest and dignitaries, followed by a soulful Ganesh Vandana presented by the students. A captivating performance of Jhumar, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jharkhand, received wide appreciation.

 

Addressing the gathering, Shri Sanjay Seth congratulated the students and urged them to pursue excellence and contribute to nation-building. He stated that the presence of a premier hospitality institute like IHM Ranchi in Jharkhand ensures immense opportunities for youth. Highlighting the talent and potential of India’s young generation, he said that today’s youth are making a mark globally across diverse fields. The Minister praised the rising startup ecosystem and emphasised the role of innovation, dedication and entrepreneurial mindset in India’s economic growth. He encouraged students to remain disciplined, give their best, and continue learning. Acknowledging the achievements of young women, he said that today’s daughters are emerging as youth icons and bringing pride to the nation. Shri Seth also called upon the students to work with the vision of ‘Nation First’, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a developed India by 2047, marking 100 years of Independence. He urged youth to be responsible voters and contribute actively towards strengthening democracy. He concluded by motivating students to work tirelessly and selflessly for the nation’s progress, drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister’s discipline, commitment and nation-first approach.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Guest of Honour Mr. Muntode congratulated the winners of Spardha–2K25 and encouraged students to maintain discipline while building physical and mental strength.

 

Principal Dr. Bhupesh Kumar lauded all participants and noted that events like Spardha–2K25 do not merely promote sportsmanship and discipline but also foster valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership and confidence. He added that the enthusiasm, energy and commitment of the students were the key highlights of the festival, and the institute remains committed to organising such meaningful and inspiring events in the future.

 

This year’s festival witnessed competitive events across multiple sports, including carrom, chess, table tennis, badminton doubles, athletics (javelin throw, shot put, discus throw, long jump, race events), relay race, cricket, football, tug of war, volleyball and kabaddi.
In carrom (boys), Ashish Kumar & Vishal (1st year) won the title, while Raj Ranjan & Mohit (3rd year) finished runners-up. In the girls’ category, Ahana Kumari & Anshu Kerketta (1st year) secured the first position. In chess, Ritesh Kumar (3rd year) and Amrit Ranjan were adjudged winner and runner-up respectively, while among girls, Haripriya Singh (2nd year) and Mahi Tomar claimed the top positions. Table tennis titles were won by Prafull Tigga (3rd year) and Neha Topno (3rd year). In badminton doubles, Sumit–Rajesh (2nd year) and Simmi Singh–Anisha Kerketta (2nd year) emerged champions. Athletics events saw remarkable performances by Sahil Khan, Nishant Kachhap, Nitin Minz, Niteen Sanga, Priya Sinha, Aakriti Tirkey, Amit Mahato and Shalini Kumari. The relay race was won by 1st-year boys’ team and 2nd-year girls’ team. In cricket, Dheerendra Kumar, Aditya Kumar and Nitesh Kumar were named “Man of the Match”, while Nitesh Kumar was declared “Player of the Tournament”.
In football, Shreyash Sharma was awarded “Player of the Tournament” and the 3rd-year team lifted the trophy. The senior teams dominated tug of war in both categories.
In volleyball, the Principal XI emerged victorious, with Rahul and Dr. Bhupesh Kumar named “Players of the Tournament”. The senior girls’ team clinched the kabaddi title. Based on outstanding overall performance, Niteen Sanga (Girls, 3rd year) and Sahil Khan (Boys, 3rd year) were declared Overall Champions of Spardha–2K25.

 

On the occasion of Jharkhand Foundation Day, the institute had also organised competitions on the theme "Jharkhand @ 25". In the painting competition, Ahana Kumari secured first place, followed by Priya Sinha and Ankit Linda. In the speech competition, Ardra Purbey won first place, while Ishan Rai and Shalini Kumari received second and third positions respectively.

 

The successful execution of Spardha–2K25 was coordinated by Mr. Rishav Thakur, Assistant Lecturer, and Mrs. Kusum Kassimir Bara, Assistant Lecturer. The closing ceremony was hosted by second-year student Ms. Sanskriti Agrawal, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Dhiren Tiu, Senior Lecturer.

IHM Ranchi Celebrates State Foundation Day with “Jharkhand@25”–Themed Culinary League, Speech, and Painting Competitions

On the occasion of the 25th State Foundation Day, the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Ranchi organized a series of competitions including a “Jharkhand@25”–themed Culinary League, Speech Contest, and Painting Contest. The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Minakshi Prakash, Cluster Officer, JSLPS Ranchi.

Under the Palash Didi Café Food Cluster Development Project of JSLPS Ranchi, IHM Ranchi also conducted a “Jharkhand@25”–themed Culinary League for participants undergoing the 10-day Foundation Course training. A total of 10 teams comprising trainees (Didis) from various districts—Lohardaga, Godda, Simdega, Pakur, Ramgarh, and East Singhbhum—prepared 25 traditional dishes of Jharkhand. After evaluation by the institute’s faculty members, the team of Mrs. Rajkumari Oraon, Mahila Mandal Lohardaga; Mrs. Chamni Kumari, Maha Lakshmi Aajeevika Mahila Group, Ramgarh; and Mrs. Vilasho Devi, Maa Kali Aajeevika SHG were declared winners for their preparations of Gulgulla and Madua Chhilka. Certificates were also awarded to the trainees who successfully completed the course.

 

In the painting competition, Ms. Ahana Kumari (First Year) secured the first position, Ms. Priya Sinha the second, and Mr. Ankit Linda the third. In the speech competition, Ms. Aardra Poorbe won first place, followed by Mr. Ishan Rai in second place and Ms. Shalini Kumari in third.

 

Congratulating all the winners, the Principal of IHM Ranchi, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, said that the “Jharkhand@25” themed culinary, speech, and painting competitions provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their talent and creativity. He added that such events play a vital role in promoting Jharkhand’s cultural diversity, traditions, and identity among the younger generation.

IHM Ranchi Marks the Beginning of Christmas Celebrations with the Traditional Cake Mixing Ritual “Mix ‘N’ Soak – 2025”

Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi celebrated the traditional “Mix ‘N’ Soak – 2025” Christmas Cake Mixing Ceremony with great enthusiasm and festive cheer. The event marked the formal beginning of the preparations for the upcoming Christmas season.

The cake-mixing ceremony is a cherished global tradition where an assortment of dry fruits is soaked in rum, fruit juice, and wine to infuse them with a rich aroma and flavor. The mixture is allowed to mature for about a month and later used to prepare delectable Christmas and New Year cakes, adding to the festive delight.


The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Chandrakant Raipat, CMD, Rameshwaram Group; Ms. Usha Kiran, Principal, Tender Heart School, Tupudana; Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Principal, Lala Lajpat Rai School; and Mr. Kalol Sengupta, General Manager, Green Horizon Hotel.


The event commenced in a traditional and joyous manner, with active participation from the faculty members, staff, and students of the institute.


Welcoming the guests, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi, said “The joy and spirit of Christmas and New Year celebrations begin with this cake-mixing ceremony. It not only symbolizes happiness and togetherness but also reflects creativity, teamwork, and the essence of celebrating unity.”

IHM Ranchi successfully organised First “National Tribal Tourism Conference 2025”

Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, hosted the inaugural National Tribal Tourism Conference 2025 on September 26, 2025, on the theme “Globalising Tribal Heritage: Inclusive, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism.” The conference aimed to showcase indigenous tribal culture and cuisine, provide a platform for international and domestic stakeholders to exchange ideas and best practices for tribal development through responsible tourism, discuss sustainable tourism policies that empower tribal communities while preserving their cultural integrity, and position Jharkhand as a prominent destination on the global tourism map.

The event was graced by Ms. Vijaya Jadhav, Director of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, as the Chief Guest; Swami Bhaveshanand, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi, as the Distinguished Guest; and Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi, as the Presiding Officer. Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of the institute were also present.

Keynote speakers included Ms. Sangeeta Khanna, Culinary and Nutrition Consultant; Dr. Manisha Oraon, Co-founder and CEO, The Open Field, Jharkhand; Mr. Sanjeev Khalkho, Head of Department, Hotel Management, T. John College; and Dr. Nishikant Kumar, Associate Professor, BIT Mesra, Ranchi.

The conference commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and Distinguished Guest, followed by a devotional rendition of Ganesh Vandana by the students. This was succeeded by a mesmerizing Chhau dance performance by the State Manbhumi Chhau Dance Centre, Silli, Ranchi, which received widespread acclaim.

The institute also launched its inaugural annual magazine, Palash Vritt, along with the book Fundamentals of Marketing Skills.

Chief Guest, Ms. Vijay Jadhav, praised IHM Ranchi for organizing the Tribal Tourism Conference on the theme of "Globalizing Tribal Heritage" and appreciated the Chhau dance performance during Navratri. She stated that the conference's theme is unique, reflecting the distinct identity of Jharkhand. She emphasized the need to effectively showcase tribal culture and heritage alongside tourism, highlighting the state's art, culture, local cuisine, and unique tourism experiences. She also noted that while people from Jharkhand travel to other places, the state itself boasts numerous major tourist attractions, and we should recognize the immense tourism potential we possess. Furthermore, she highlighted the absence of gender inequality among the tribal communities in the state, where both men and women play a vital role in economic development.  She emphasized that sustainable development lessons can be learned from local tribal communities, citing traditions such as tying Rakhi on trees, the rich nutritional value of local cuisine, the medicinal properties of mahua, community-based homestays, dam-related festivals, and various other cultural practices. Regarding the association with IATO, she stated that tourism development is not the responsibility of one person, but of all citizens. Finally, she suggested that IHM Ranchi should organize this conference on a larger, global scale and consider what the global tribal community desires.

 

Distinguished Guest Swami Bhaveshanand praised IHM Ranchi for organising the event, reflecting on the importance of water, forests, and land. He elaborated on how homestays, local cuisine, tourism sites, and traditions are linked to economic growth, stressing the collective effort required for state development.

Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi extended his greetings to the dignitaries and attendees, expressed that the conference aims not only at academic discourse but also at promoting tribal culture and cuisine globally. He emphasised the importance of contributions from all stakeholders in presenting the state’s arts, culture, cuisine, and tourism on the world stage. Dr. Kumar highlighted Jharkhand’s potential for adventure tourism, describing tribal villages as micro-economies, and announced that the conference would be expanded to a global scale in the coming year. He underlined that the conference provides a platform for academicians, researchers, policymakers, and students to exchange experiences and explore the vast potential of tribal tourism in India.

Keynote presentations included Ms. Sangeeta Khanna on Jharkhand’s Environment and Tribal Culture: A Source of Inspiration for Sustainable Hospitality and Tourism, Dr. Manisha Oraon on From Forest to Plate: Establishing Jharkhand’s Tribal Cuisine as the Future of Sustainable Culinary Tourism, Dr. Nishikant Kumar on Roots, Routes, and Rewards: Reviving Tribal Tourism in Jharkhand as a Global Ethical Economy and Mr. Sanjeev Khalkho on Voices of the Forest, Tales of the Earth: Bridging Tribal Tourism and Cultural Heritage.

The conference also featured a technical session chaired by Dr. Nishikant Kumar (BIT Mesra, Ranchi), Dr. Manisha Oraon (The Open Field, Jharkhand), Dr. Ladli Rani (Assistant Professor, Ranchi University), and Dr. Pankaj Chatterjee (Assistant Registrar, RKDF University, Ranchi). Teachers’ Day Celebrated with Great Enthusiasm at IHM Ranchi

On the occasion of National Teachers’ Day, the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm. The program began in the institute’s auditorium with students extending greetings and a warm welcome to the Principal, faculty members, and staff. Thereafter, Principal Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, faculty, and student representatives paid floral tribute to the statue of the eminent scholar, philosopher, statesman, and the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, after whom the celebration proceeded.

Extending heartfelt wishes to all on Teachers’ Day, Principal Dr. Bhupesh Kumar appreciated the students for organizing the event. He emphasized that Teachers’ Day symbolizes the strong bond between students and teachers. He also congratulated the faculty and staff for their hard work, dedication, and excellence in recent years, which has led the institute to be recognized among the top institutions across India. He further wished the students success in fulfilling their dreams and a prosperous life ahead.

 

The occasion witnessed vibrant cultural performances by students, including dance, speeches, poetry recitation, and other captivating acts, which were highly appreciated by all present. Fun competitions such as “Talent Hunt for Teachers,” “Guess Who?”, “Dumb Charades,” and the “Dalgona Challenge” (inspired by the famous Korean game) were also organized, with winners being felicitated with awards.

 

During the celebration, Senior Lecturers Mr. Ravi Kumar and Mr. Vineet Sinha were honored with the “Best Teacher Award” for their excellence in academic dedication, subject command, teaching methods, use of teaching aids, student counseling, classroom management, laboratory interaction, and outstanding performance in external training. Other faculty members, including Senior Lecturer Mr. Dhirendra Tiu, Lecturer Ms. Shama Baa and Chef Rajshekhar, Assistant Professor Chef Abhimanyu Roy, along with administrative staff Administrative Officer Mr. Mohan Bhangre, Mr. Nitesh Kumar, Mr. Sanjeet Kumar, Ms. Poonam Kumari, Ms. Neha Kumari Pauranik, Mr. Aamir Sohail, and Mr. MD Irshad were also appreciated for their commendable work. Lighting the Flame for the Future: IHM Ranchi Welcomes the Batch of 2025–26

With tradition, pride, and purpose, the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi rolled out a spirited welcome to its new B.Sc. H&HA students — the batch of 2025–26 — in a grand orientation ceremony that celebrated both heritage and ambition.

The day began on a reverent note with a Gayatri Havan, setting a tone of positivity across the campus. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ms. Jadhav Vijaya Narayan Rao, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, who graced the event as Chief Guest. Joining her were Mr. Sahil Kapoor, Managing Director of Lemon Tree Hotels, Ranchi, and Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi, along with student leaders Mr. Mihir Ghosh (Student Representative President) and Mr. Aditya Kumar Singh, acting as General Manager of Hotel IHM Ranchi.

Cultural richness met student energy as performances like Ganesh Vandana and Jharkhand’s traditional Jhumar dance showcased the region’s artistic legacy. The dignitaries also unveiled the latest edition of the institute’s magazine, “Sandesh”, marking a proud moment for the student editorial team.

In her keynote address, Ms. Rao encouraged the students to step into hospitality with discipline, humility, and adaptability, underlining the sector’s vital role in economic development and tourism. “The hospitality industry is not just a career — it's a calling,” she said, urging the new batch to see themselves as future brand ambassadors of Indian hospitality.

Mr. Sahil Kapoor brought in industry wisdom with a motivating message: “Dream big and stay limitless.” Drawing from his own journey, he emphasized ambition, resilience, and the importance of thinking beyond boundaries.

Welcoming the students into the IHM family, Principal Dr. Bhupesh Kumar highlighted the institute’s commitment to shaping not just professionals, but also responsible, value-driven citizens. He shared success stories of alumni, along with insights into the academic calendar, training modules, and evolving career opportunities.

The orientation also included detailed briefings by committee heads on academic departments, internships, placements, and institutional policies — ensuring that students had a strong footing to begin their journey.

Empowering Women Through Skill and Self-Reliance: IHM Ranchi Concludes 10-Day Bakery and Entrepreneurship Training Program

The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, successfully concluded a transformative 10-day training program on “Bakery and Women Entrepreneurship Development” from May 13 to May 26, 2025. Designed to empower local women with skills and confidence, the initiative aimed to foster self-reliance and promote self-employment in the hospitality and food service sectors.

Throughout the program, participants were trained in the art of baking a variety of products including breads, cookies, tea cakes, pastries, muffins, tarts, and puff-based items. Alongside hands-on culinary training, the participants also received crucial insights into business operations, covering areas like personal hygiene, food safety, SOPs, kitchen layout planning, and financial literacy.

To nurture entrepreneurial thinking, special sessions were held on digital marketing, social media branding, FSSAI and GST registration, business model development, and startup simulations. These sessions aimed at preparing women to not only create quality products but also build sustainable business ventures.

The program culminated in an exhibition where participants showcased their bakery creations. The products were evaluated by chefs from IHM Ranchi and Mr. Asit Kundu, General Manager of Hotel Capitol Residency, Ranchi. All participants were awarded certificates of completion.

Expert mentorship was provided by Chef Sanjay Jha (Radisson Blu, Ranchi), CA Harsh Agrawal, Mr. Kamal Agrawal (President, Jharkhand Caterers Association), Dr. Manisha Oraon (Founder, The Open Field, Khunti), along with IHM Ranchi’s dedicated faculty and chefs.

Grand Celebration of the 4th Graduation Ceremony at IHM Ranchi

The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Ranchi, established by the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, organized its 4th Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at its campus. The institute runs a three-year B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration programme affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida. During the event, graduation certificates and job offer letters from leading national and international hospitality and service organizations were awarded to all 77 students of the 2022–25 batch.

 

The event was graced by august presence as Chief Guest of the ceremony,  the Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar. Distinguished guests included Shri Manoj Kumar, Secretary of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand; Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi; Dr. Alok Aswal, Head of Department; and Dr. Anindita Bhardwaj, Senior Lecturer.The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and dignitaries, followed by a graceful rendition of Ganesh Vandana presented by the students and received high appreciation.

 

The Hon’ble Governor paid tribute to the innocent victims of the recent Pahalgam attack and extended greetings to all dignitaries, faculty members, parents, and students. He congratulated the graduating students for achieving 100% placement and extended his best wishes for their new journey ahead. He lauded the relentless efforts of the faculty and leadership of the institute, stating that this is both a time of opportunity and responsibility for the students to excel in the field of hospitality with wisdom and skill. He further highlighted the immense employment opportunities in the hospitality sector. Appreciating the remarkable achievements of the institute since its inception in 2019, he encouraged students to lead not only themselves but also represent the institute and the state in socially and economically significant domains. Emphasizing the philosophy of “Atithi Devo Bhava,” he wished all students great success in their future endeavours.

 

Tourism Secretary Shri Manoj Kumar expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, institute officials, faculty, parents, and attendees. He congratulated the students of the 2025 graduating batch for securing 100% placements in prestigious hospitality and service organizations across India and extended his heartfelt wishes for their bright future. He stated that the presence of the Hon’ble Governor was a matter of immense pride and inspiration for the institute’s continued growth. He encouraged students to carry forward the name of the institute and the Department of Tourism with diligence and responsibility and praised the institute for its consistent excellence over the years. He assured that the department remains committed to supporting the institute in its future developmental needs.

 

Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi, expressed his gratitude to all dignitaries and attendees. He congratulated the "Student of the Year" and all successful students. He proudly shared the institute’s journey since its establishment in 2019, including its recognition among the top 10 government hotel management institutes in India, ranking among the top 3 in the CSR 2025 survey, and its record-setting millet-based culinary innovations inspired by the Prime Minister’s call. He also highlighted the students' participation in hospitality services during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in New Delhi. He conveyed his best wishes to all graduates and emphasized that they are brand ambassadors of the institute, urging them to carry its legacy with pride and responsibility wherever they go. He reiterated that the institute, under the Tourism Department’s vision, continues to offer high-quality education and ensure 100% placements, and will strive to do so in the future.

 

Based on attendance, academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and placement achievements, Ms. Bidisha Ray was declared "Student of the Year 2025" and was honored with a Gold Medal and a cash award of INR 11,000.

 

The students of IHM Ranchi achieved 100% placement through the campus placement drive, which witnessed participation from 15 esteemed hospitality and service organizations, including Taj Hotels, Park Hotels, Oberoi Hotels, ITC Hotels, Sodexo, Delhi Duty Free, Sterling, Mahindra Group, Mayfair, McDonald's, Lite Bite Foods, Reliance Group, Bikanervala, and BNR Chanakya. Students were selected for various positions such as Executive, Management Trainee, Hotel Operations Trainee, and Associate.

 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Alok Aswal, Head of Department.

 

Student of the Year 2025 - Address by Ms. Bidisha Ray

 

In an emotional speech, Ms. Bidisha Ray expressed, “This moment is profoundly special and humbling for me. IHM Ranchi Bags CSR Top Hotel Management Institute of India Award 2025

The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi has once again proven its academic and professional excellence by securing the “CSR Top Hotel Management Institute of India Award” for the year 2025. The recognition was bestowed by Competition Success Review (CSR), one of India’s most prestigious career and education magazines, during a formal award ceremony held at Hotel Le Meridien, Windsor Palace, Janpath, New Delhi on 20th April 2025. According to the CSR Ranking Survey 2025, IHM Ranchi achieved the third position nationwide among hotel management institutes. This impressive ranking is the result of a comprehensive evaluation process based on various indicators including admission criteria, placement performances, infrastructure quality, faculty expertise, training programs, academic innovation, and public perception. The institute’s rise from fourth place in the 2024 rankings to third place this year speaks of its growth and consistent quality.

 

Established in the year 2019, IHM Ranchi, is as an autonomous institution under the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand and affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Despite being one of the newer IHM institutes in the country, it has made significant strides in a short period, emerging as a leader in hospitality education. Under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, the institute has shown an unwavering commitment to excellence. Speaking at the event, Dr. Kumar expressed his pride and gratitude, stating that the award reflects the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff members and students. He also acknowledged the support and guidance of Tourism Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr. Manoj Kumar, and Director of Tourism, Govt. of Jharkhand, Mrs. Anjali Yadav. This marks the third consecutive year that IHM Ranchi has been recognized in CSR’s top rankings. In addition, the institute has also bagged the seventh position in the GHRDC Hotel Management Institute Ranking Survey 2025, maintaining its place among the top ten institutions in India. Over the years, IHM Ranchi has earned several accolades, including the CSR Top Hotel Management Award in 2023 and 2024, the Best Emerging College title by India Today in 2024, and the sixth position in the GHRDC rankings in 2024.Beyond rankings, the institute has made significant contributions in promoting regional indigenous cuisine. Its efforts to elevate traditional Jharkhandi dishes to national and international platforms were recognized by the India Book of Records in both 2022 and 2023. The institute also received the "Most Admired Hotel Management Institute Award" in 2021 and continues to maintain a 100% placement record, placing students in prestigious hotels, restaurants and other hospitality sectors both in India and abroad.

 

With a future-oriented curriculum that integrates culinary arts, hospitality operations, tourism studies, and cultural heritage, IHM Ranchi continues to prepare students for global careers in the hospitality industry. MoU Signed Between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living to Provide Youth Empowerment and Skill Development Programs for Students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, and The Art of Living (TAOL) to provide youth empowerment and skill development programs for students. The primary objective of this MoU is to establish a collaborative partnership between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living in order to promote health, awareness, and stress management practices among students.

The initiative also aims to train students in aspects related to “Art of Etiquette,” enabling them to receive holistic, multidisciplinary, and value-based education through TAOL’s well-tested and proven student development programs. This collaboration is designed to foster the integrated development of all human faculties—intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional, and moral.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi; Dr. Alok Aswal, Head of Department, IHM Ranchi; and Mrs. Riya Tyal.

Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi, stated that in today’s highly competitive era, technical and professional competence alone is not sufficient. A student’s holistic development—mental balance, self-awareness, commitment to ethical values, and sensitivity towards society—is what truly shapes a successful and well-rounded individual. He further emphasized that this agreement between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living will serve as a powerful step in that direction. It will not only strengthen the students’ inner confidence but also inspire them to become better human beings, embodying the values of service, leadership, and compassion.

IHM Ranchi Launches Unique 2-Day Free Residential Program for NCHMCT JEE 2025 Preparation

In one of its kind initiatives IHM Ranchi has started offering free 2-day residential program for the aspirants of NCHMCT JEE 2025, which is a gateway to admission to prestigious IHMs across the country including IHM Ranchi. Each year Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted by National Council for Hotel Management Catering Technology through National Testing Agency to offer admission in their flagship program B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration, a program recognised by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

The two days residential program is a novel initiative by any IHMs across India. Dr Bhupesh Kumar principal informed that it has been observed that many of the aspirants get anxious and nervous while preparing for the entrance test and some of the Pvt. Institutes/coaching centres lure them by offering preparation test series which is of a very substandard quality resulting into compromised confidence of the aspirant. Keeping this problem in mind, these 2 days residential program has been specially crafted to help candidates to overcome the fear and anxiety of entrance examination, thus instilling confidence to excel in the entrance test.

The enrolled aspirants shall be guided by expert faculties of IHM Ranchi having decades of experience in hospitality domain. The program is completely free of cost for all categories of aspirants i.e. the boarding, lodging and classroom inputs shall be taken care by the institution without charging a single penny from the aspirants. The program shall cover the syllabus of entrance examination covering subject like Numerical ability & Analytical Aptitude, Reasoning & Logical deductions, English Knowledge, General Knowledge & Current affairs and Aptitude for the service sector. The pilot program has been planned in 4 phases as per details below and based upon the response, future slots shall be announced by the institute.

Additionally, IHM Ranchi will continue to offer handholding support and guidance to all interested from commencement to culmination of the entire admission process. आईएचएम रांची ने NCHMCT JEE 2025 के इच्छुक उम्मीदवारों के लिए एक अनोखा 2-दिन का निःशुल्क आवासीय कार्यक्रम शुरू किया है, जो देशभर के प्रतिष्ठित आईएचएम संस्थानों में प्रवेश का मार्ग है, जिसमें आईएचएम रांची भी शामिल है। हर साल राष्ट्रीय परिषद होटल प्रबंधन और खानपान प्रौद्योगिकी (NCHMCT) द्वारा संयुक्त प्रवेश परीक्षा (JEE) का आयोजन किया जाता है, जो उनके प्रमुख कार्यक्रम B.Sc. इन हॉस्पिटैलिटी और होटल प्रशासन में प्रवेश के लिए होता है। यह कार्यक्रम जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय, दिल्ली द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त है।

यह दो-दिन का आवासीय कार्यक्रम देश के किसी भी आईएचएम द्वारा शुरू किया गया एक अद्वितीय पहल है। डॉ. भूपेश कुमार, प्रधानाचार्य ने बताया कि यह देखा गया है कि कई उम्मीदवार प्रवेश परीक्षा की तैयारी करते समय घबराए और चिंतित रहते हैं, और कुछ निजी संस्थान/कोचिंग सेंटर उन्हें तैयारी के टेस्ट सीरीज के नाम पर निमंत्रण देते हैं, जो गुणवत्ता में बहुत खराब होते हैं, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप उम्मीदवार का आत्मविश्वास कमजोर हो जाता है। इस समस्या को ध्यान में रखते हुए, यह 2-दिन का आवासीय कार्यक्रम विशेष रूप से उम्मीदवारों को प्रवेश परीक्षा के डर और चिंता को दूर करने के लिए तैयार किया गया है, ताकि वे आत्मविश्वास से परीक्षा में अच्छा प्रदर्शन कर सकें।

IHM Ranchi organizes interactive session themed “Coffee with GMs” at the institute premises

In its continued endeavors towards excellence in Hospitality education and in continuation to the ongoing smart classes wherein students get opportunity to meet and interact with the industry leaders today, marks a very special out of the box session for the senior students of IHM Ranchi. The institute has provided a diaspora of industry leaders with the budding professionals who are going to appear for their campus placements in the upcoming months.

IHM Ranchi organized an interactive session with the General Managers of the reputed Hotels over a session named “Coffee with GMs”. The event featured industry leaders including Mr. Hemant Mehta, General Manager, Hotel Radisson Blu Ranchi, Mr. Ranjan Das, General Manager, Vivanta Hotel, Jamshedpur of Taj Hotels and Mr. Pankaj Anand, Hotel Manager, Hotel Prime Ranchi of Chocolate group of Hotels. The program was set-up through a casual interaction among the General Managers and the students focusing on the career development tips, success stories and fun-filled memories from their academic and professional journey. 
Decades of experience and the struggle success stories of General Managers included focus on the personal development, self-confidence, self-presentation changing industry trends and best practices, hard work and dedication, effective management styles, conflict management, budgeting and financial management in the various roles during the long spanning career in the hospitality industry. They also discussed the challenges of running an operational hotel and opening a new hotel, as well as strategies for keeping both guests and employees happy. They talked about determining rules to advance an industry, the challenges in management, which solutions we should be aware of in any situation, and the need for leadership quality to become a hotel manager. They advised students and told them that Communication skills and attitude are crucial elements for a successful manager.

 The students were enthusiastic and energetic throughout the session and they asked various questions and queries related to personal and professional life and the secret behind the success and management styles to which all the General Managers were humble to address the gathering.

The event was moderated by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi though a series of innovative and detailed questions to set the momentum of the session. He encouraged the students to utilize these opportunities to the maximum and draw inspiration from these leaders for a successful career ahead. Furthermore, he imparted strategic advice, encouraging students to immerse themselves in daily reading habit of English newspapers and absorb wisdom from books by authors like Shiv Khera, embracing subtitled English movies was also endorsed, facilitating refined pronunciation, adept communication, and ultimately presenting themselves as prime qualities in competitive professional arenas.

On the occasion of National Tourism Day, a "Vlog Competition" was organized on the theme "Dekho Apna Desh - Vocal for Local" at IHM Ranchi

On the occasion of National Tourism Day, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organized at IHM Ranchi. The event was blessed by Shri Hemant Mehta Hotel Radisson Blu, Ranchi General Manager and Dr. Subhakant Mohanty Indira Gandhi National Open University, Ranchi Senior Regional Director as the Guest of honor. This program was coordinated by Miss Aarti Tevatia, Assistant Lecturer of IHM Ranchi.


A "Vlog Competition" on the theme "Dekho Apna Desh - Vocal for Local" was also organized on the occasion wherein students of all NCHMCT affiliated Institutes across the India were invited to participate. The competition was inaugurated with the Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana. In his welcome speech, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi thanked the guest of honors and all the participants. The principal mentioned that No matter how dire the situation has come, our country has always performed better and has progressed. Especially during this pandemic, our country has performed better than before and the growth rate of our country is expected above 9 percent. The same situation should apply on the Tourism and Hotel industry which will lead to better development in the tourism and hotel industry.


Shri Hemant Mehta applauded the attendees and IHM Ranchi for this initiative and said that the tourism and hotel industry is not only attracting tourists but also providing a lot of employment opportunities. At present, India is ranked at 34th with a climb from 56th rank in 2017, in addition to heritage and cultural tourism, medical tourism is also increasing in the country.


Dr. Subhakant Mohanty said that National Tourism Day is celebrated to make people aware about tourism in the country so that development of Tourism places as well as nearby places can be done. IGNOU is also running some programs for the development of this sector which will help the working people to enrich their knowledge and develop skills in the field of travel and tourism. 


The Vlog competition was organized virtually on Google Meet. Students from 12 IHMs participated in the competition. The Vlog’s were evaluated on the basis of creativity, depth of thought, creation and presentation, attractiveness of a particular destination, and information provided about the destination. The Jury of this competition were Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi and Mr. Ravi Omkar, HR Manager, Hotel Radisson Blu, Ranchi. The Jury congratulated all the winners and also explained how to create a better Vlog in future.

The first prize in the competition was won by Mr. Manish Kumar, first year student of B.SC H&HA, IHM Ranchi, second prize was won by Ms.  Shubhangi Kumari, final year student of IHM Kolkata, third prize was awarded to Mr. Vivek Saxena, first year student of IHM Silvassa and consolation prize was given to Douglas Devassia, from IHM Mumbai. The first-place winner was awarded with 3000 rupees, second place with 2000 rupees, third place with 1000 rupees and 500 rupees was given as consolation prize, also, all the participants were given the e-certificate. The event was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Alok Aswal, Head of Department, IHM Ranchi, with congratulations to all the winners and participants.

The Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Ranchi, an Autonomous Institution of the Department of Tourism, Art Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand, is hosting Online Cookery Competition for all the cooking enthusiast in collaboration with Jharkhand Tourism, Sunday Cook Show.

The participation will be absolutely free of cost /no entry fee.

The participants will receive Certificates and winners will receive a beautiful Kitchen Kit (21 items)

Participation rules and guidelines

  • Like and Follow @ihmranchi and @sundaycookshow on Facebook and Instagram before participating.

  • Participants may send in their entries for any one of the following cuisines latest by 31.5.2021

  • Traditional dish of Jharkhand

  • Regional Indian Vegetarian Dish

  • Dessert (Vegetarian Only)

  • One Participant may send multiple videos.

  • Anyone who is interested in participating may send in their entries to ihmranchisocial@gmail.com.

  • The entry must contain:

  1. A beautiful picture of the final dish presentation, 

  2. Video of 4-6 minutes.

  3. Introduction of the Candidate

  4. No copyright music in the background to avoid copyright violation as per YouTube guidelines. 

Video guidelines

  • The participant must shoot the video keeping the front view, ensuring their introduction before starting the recipe presentation.

  • The time span of the video may be of 4-6 minutes.

  • The video may be shot in either Hindi or English language.


Food presentation and photography

  • The presentation of the dish plays an important role and shall be considered as one of the criteria for evaluation.

  • Mandatory: the contestant has to send/upload a picture of the presented dish along with the video. 


How to submit:

  1. Upload your video on Google drive

  2. Name the folder with your name and dish for eg. Sumit-Dhuska (Sumit being name and Dhuska is the dish )

  3. Share the link to ihmranchisocial@gmail.com with your photo and picture of the final dish.

  4. We will download the video, the chef will do the internal evaluation, it will be uploaded to Youtube Channel SUNDAY COOK SHOW and Links will be shared to you and all, through the IHM RANCHI Facebook page and Instagram for promotion and sharing.

Evaluation criteria 

The participants will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria’s:

         A. Jury

          1. Creativity

          2. Process and explanation 

          3. Authenticity (for Jharkhand tradition dish category only)

          4. Ingredients used

          5. Hygiene and cleanliness

          6. Presentation of the dish


          B. Social Reach

           1. a Maximum number of likes & comments on the uploaded video on YouTube Channel Sunday Cook Show.

Both the parameters will have equal weightage.

The Winner will be announced on or before 7.6.2021

Winners will be facilitated by IHM, Ranchi, and will be given Kitchen Kit and any other gifts if received from any sponsor.
