Marriott International Becomes First Hospitality Company to Introduce Neuroinclusive Practices at Its Largest Customer Events

Leveraging work from Google Xi’s The Neu Project, Marriott strives to create a more inclusive experience for meeting attendees

Marriott International, Inc., a hotel industry leader for more than 95 years, today announced its commitment to incorporate neuroinclusive practices at Marriott-hosted customer events of 250 people or more globally. This commitment is a result of joining forces with The Neu Project, an initiative from Google’s Experience Institute (Xi) that aims to share resources designed to better accommodate and create a more inclusive experience during meetings and events for neurodivergent attendees. These practices are initially being previewed at Marriott’s Corporate Partnership Customer Conference, THE EXCHANGE, currently taking place November 28 through December 1, 2023 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, CA.

Approximately 15-20 percent of the world’s population has neuro differences, including ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, dyslexia, epilepsy, and Tourette Syndrome.* In 2022, the Google Experience Institute launched The Neu Project in order to demystify and educate event professionals on the design of more neuroinclusive experiences through a helpful guide and checklist.

The following neuroinclusive practices will be incorporated at Marriott-hosted customer meetings and events of 250 people or more:

Quiet Room: A dedicated room will be available during Marriott customer events for recovery from sensory overwhelm, restoration and regulation. Designed to foster the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of attendees, the room will serve as a calming retreat where guests can break from the event to manage fatigue, overload and/or sensory needs.

Tools and Resources: At registration, event attendees will have the opportunity to request various tools to better accommodate their needs, including sensory & fidget toys, noise canceling ear plugs, sleep masks, sunglasses, printed agendas and venue maps, and details about loud music, flashing lights or surprise moments taking place during the event.

Closed Captioning for Main Stage Presentations: Real-time subtitles and captions will be available on-screen during main stage event and conference presentations.

IHG’s first hotel in Mersin city, Holiday Inn Mersin has been signed together with ownership group Koknar Turizm San. ve Tic. LTD Sti., offering 95 guest rooms. The hotel will be part of a new financial development in the city, and a short distance from the city centre and with public transport to the seaside – making it perfect for business and leisure travel alike. The hotel is expected to open in late 2026.

Expected to open in Istanbul in late 2025, Holiday Inn Express Istanbul Arnavutkoy will offer 64 guest rooms close to Istanbul International Airport. Signed together with ownership group Firatim Insaat Gayrimenkul San. Ve Tic. Ltd. Sti., the hotel will feature a bar, restaurant and terrace.

IHG’s first resort in the country, Holiday Inn Resort Bodrum opened in summer 2023, bringing 266 guest rooms to Bodrum Bardakci Bay. Set on sloping hills overlooking the Aegean Sea, the resort features pools, spa facilities, three restaurants and five bars – making for the perfect escape.

IHG’s first hotel in Yalova, Crowne Plaza Yalova was signed together with Marti Termal Turizm Insaat Sanayi, and will open in spring 2024. The hotel also offers a spa, fitness and wellness area making it a perfect destination for neighbouring cities like Istanbul, for those seeking to enjoy the city’s thermal baths and beaches.

Crowne Plaza Kayseri, signed together with Huma Saglik Hizmetleri A.S., will open in Q2 2024 offering 186 guest rooms, a restuarant, lobby bar, meeting space and a fitness and spa area. A first for the brand in the city, the hotel will be convenient for Kayseri’s industrial zone, city centre and Kayseri football stadium. The hotel will also be located adjacent to a renovated full-service hospital and a short journey from Erciyes Mountain – one of Türkiye’s most famous ski resorts.

Signed earlier this year, the 231-key InterContinental Bursa hotel will bring a luxury hotel to the country’s fourth largest city. Being developed in partnership with owner Atis Yapi, the hotel is expected to open in early 2025, in what will become the largest hotel in this UNESCO World Heritage status city. Skyscanner India’s newly launched report explores how the stars affect traveller behaviour in the country

INDIA, November 2023 – As another year comes to a close, India gazes towards the stars for inspiration. In a recent report unveiled by Skyscanner, the global travel marketplace, it's revealed that a striking 88% of the nation places their faith in astrology to guide them through life, helping them make important decisions including, travel.

Indian travellers love food and Skyscanner’s recent Travel Trends Report for 2024 revealed that over 70% of people are guided by their taste buds. Aquarians are the foodies who lead the way with over 93% of them being inclined towards travelling to a location solely for its cuisine. Astrologer Anisha Arora also says that Aquarians are known for their impeccable taste in food and Skyscanner suggests that they pair up with Sagittarius, as 82% of them are adventurous with their food choices and are willing to travel to offbeat locations to discover uncommon cuisines.

Apart from travelling for food, Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2024 report also observed that more than half of Indian travellers hone in on their cultural calling when it comes to travel, basing their holiday plans on popular films and fashion trends. Over 55% of Capricorns are made for the red carpet, opting to travel to locations featured in their favourite films or shows - Arora suggests they consult with their Pisces counterparts who are known to love movies while choosing their next location! On the other hand, Sagittarians are showing off their sartorial skills; 74% of them take looks from the fashion runway to the flight runway for their trips.

When it comes to traveller psyche, Skyscanner found that Virgos are the kings of structure, with over half of them (50%) preferring to have well-structured itineraries with planned activities and some free time. Skyscanner also explored how anxiety affects travellers and found that over 48% of Scorpios feel increased anxiety while flying.

Vistara Inaugurates Direct Flights Between Mumbai And Frankfurt

Gurugram, November 2023: Vistara, India’s finest full-service carrier and a joint venture of the Tata group and Singapore Airlines, today, inaugurated non-stop, 6x weekly flights between Mumbai and Frankfurt. The inaugural flight, operated on Vistara’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, commenced from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai at 13:00 Hours (IST) on 15 November 2023 and will arrive at Frankfurt International Airport at 17:30 Hours (GMT). Vistara has already been flying 6x weekly between Frankfurt and Delhi.

PRS Oberoi, doyen of Indian hospitality, passes away

Oberoi is known as the man who changed the face of hotel industry in India. He has left behind a legacy of impeccable hospitality

Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, the doyen of Indian hospitality and Chairman Emeritus of the Oberoi Group, passed away on November 14 morning, leaving behind a legacy of impeccable hospitality.

The former executive chairman of EIH Limited, The Oberoi Group flagship, is known as the man who changed the face of the hotels business in India. "In addition to providing leadership for the management of luxury hotels in several countries, Oberoi has been instrumental in pioneering the development of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts. The Oberoi brand has come to represent fine luxury hotels," reads the Oberoi Group website.

"PRS Oberoi is credited with placing Oberoi hotels on the international luxury travellers map with the opening of several luxury hotels in important cities."

Oberoi was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour, in January 2008. The International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) conferred him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in December 2012 as a global recognition of his exceptional leadership, vision and contribution to develop The Oberoi Group as one of the world's leading luxury hotel chains.

The HOTELS magazine recognized PRS Oberoi as the '2010 Corporate Hotelier of the World' through votes cast by its readers across more than 150 countries. The cover story of the November edition of the magazine referred to him as "the founder father of modern luxury hospitality in India" and credited him with growing the company "into one of the world's most prestigious luxury hotel groups".

Among the host of organizations that have awarded PRS Oberoi for his lifetime achievements, features the CNBC TV-18 India Business Leader Awards 2007 for building a world-class hotel chain that caters to both luxury and business travellers and for shaping the hospitality industry of the country. In 2015, he was voted among CNBC TV-18's Top 15 Indian Business Icons.

PRS Oberoi decided to relinquish his position as chairman and director of EIH Limited from May 3, 2022.
