Paro: A Modern Indian Bar Redefining Jaipur’s Nightlife

Jaipur, Rajasthan (September, 2025) – In Jaipur’s historic MI Road district, Paro a bar occupies an 80-year-old colonial building that exudes both contemporary flair and old-world charm. Billed as a “Modern Indian Bar,” Paro seamlessly fuses the city’s classic heritage ambiance with a vibrant, modern party scene. In just over a year since launch, it has emerged as a hotspot for Jaipur’s trendsetting crowd, offering an elevated drinking and dining experience that feels as iconic and regal as its name.

Heritage Meets Modern Design in the Heart of Jaipur

Rooftop seating at Paro merges heritage architecture with modern lounge comfort. Paro is housed in a pre-Independence era building near Jaipur’s landmark Raj Mandir cinema, where the city’s classic charm meets a contemporary nightlife vibe. The building – once a bustling trading hub and later a family mansion – has been thoughtfully restored into a multi-level lounge with a rooftop and verandah overlooking the iconic Panch Batti intersection. Many original architectural elements remain intact; notably, the walls have been finished in indigenous lime plaster by descendants of the craftsmen who worked on Jaipur’s famed Hawa Mahal. Underfoot, Makrana marble flooring (the same marble used in the Taj Mahal) lends a gleaming heritage touch to the space. These historic details blend seamlessly with contemporary luxuries – an island-style central bar encourages social mingling, while plush furnishings and swaying chandeliers bathe the rooms in a warm glow. Soft lighting on terracotta-hued walls gives the interiors a distinctive warmth, and a balcony belvedere offers a “vibrant and theatrical view” of the city beyond. As dusk falls, Paro’s rooftop comes alive with flickering candles, transforming the atmosphere into a soothing, open-sky oasis above the bustling city. The result is a work of “architectural poetry” – a venue that riotously merges color, fervor, and spark – delivering Jaipur a setting that is at once nostalgically elegant and energetically modern.

Innovative Cocktails Infused with Indian Flavours

Signature cocktails at Paro highlight local ingredients and creative presentation. At Paro’s bar, mixology meets Indian tradition. The beverage program leans deeply into local ingredients, with everything from spirits to bitters and syrups crafted in-house using premium Indian spices and secret infusions. The result is a lineup of signature cocktails that pay tribute to regional flavors and stories. For example, the “Shehar” cocktail – a rose-infused gin and tonic – evokes the rosy hues of Jaipur’s old city. The “Ratnagiri Rhapsody” blends whiskey with cumin and kokum, a tangy fruit from western India, creating a bold yet balanced concoction. Another favorite, the “Garam Masala” cocktail, layers a robust whiskey base with warming spices like cinnamon, cumin, and ginger for a truly homegrown twist. Many drinks nod to local culture or nostalgia: guests might be welcomed with a Jamun (Indian java plum) infused gin & tonic on arrival, or encounter the dramatic “Saanjh” cocktail – a twilight-colored blend of butterfly-pea gin and tonic served with a smoking rosemary sprig to mimic a Jaipur sunset. Each cocktail comes with a story and inventive presentation, reflecting co-founder Ujjwal Gupta’s passion for mixology and original flavors. By marrying artisanal technique with indigenous ingredients, Paro’s bar ensures that every sip is an ode to India.

Indian Cuisine Reimagined: From Chaat to Gourmet

While many lounges chase global cuisines, Paro stays Indian at heart – with playful twists. The food menu proudly celebrates regional classics in innovative formats. In fact, the menu is organized not by conventional courses but by Indian culinary themes (think Chaat & Chakhna, Kebabs & Tikkas, Curries & Biryanis), underscoring its roots in Indian street food and comfort food culture. Guests will recognize familiar favorites cleverly reinterpreted: the iconic Rajasthani Dal Bati is reborn as bite-sized savory tarts called Dal Bati Bites, and South India’s beloved dosa is playfully refashioned into crisp Dosa Onion Rings served with potato masala and chutney. The chefs at Paro delight in fusing flavors – think Bedmi Poori Nachos, Inji Puli (ginger-tamarind) Chicken Wings, or Gunpowder-spiced Prawns, to name a few inventive bar bites. Mumbai’s street-food influence appears in the buttery Pav Bhaji Rolls, and even the humble peanut brittle finds new life as a Peanut Chikki Bhel mix. An extensive selection of mains and flatbreads is available for heartier dining, but many find they can happily make a meal of the shareable small plates alone. To cap the experience, Paro offers desserts that blend nostalgia with nouvelle techniques – highlights include the Aamras Panna Cotta, marrying a traditional mango puree with an Italian custard twist, and a decadent Jigarthanda Falooda inspired by the famous Indian layered dessert drink. Every dish is crafted to complement the bar’s cocktails, fulfilling the founding principle of elevating traditional Indian fare in a modern way. The result is a dining experience that is at once comfortingly familiar and excitingly novel – a true gastronomic journey through India on each plate.

An Immersive Experience: Music, Ambiance & Hospitality

Beyond the food and drinks, Paro prides itself on offering an immersive nightlife experience. Live indie music and DJ sets fill the air on different nights, infusing the space with an upbeat energy that beckons Jaipur’s fun-loving crowdThe soundtrack ranges from mellow Indie tunes at sundown to groovy, high-energy beats as the night advances, turning Paro into a lively dance-friendly venue by late evening. Visitors consistently praise the ambiance – one guest described Paro as “a true hidden gem… the perfect escape from the hustle, where you can unwind, enjoy great music from the DJ, and soak in an international vibe” above the city lights. Indeed, by twilight the candlelit rooftop and panoramic skyline give an almost vacation-like feel, while the colonial-era architecture around you reminds you that you’re reveling in the heart of Jaipur’s heritage. Despite the high style and energy, Paro retains a spirit of genuine Rajasthani hospitality at its core. The staff are warm and attentive – echoing the region’s tradition of making guests feel at home – often urging visitors to “leave a little room” for one more drink or bite or sweet treat in true hospitable fashion. This welcoming ethos, combined with the venue’s dramatic setting, music, and culinary delights, creates an atmosphere that is both inviting and exhilarating. Whether you’re planning a date night or a celebration with friends, Paro manages to feel intimate yet buzzing, sophisticated yet unpretentious. As one review put it, it’s “the perfect venue for a date night or an epic night out with friends,” thanks to top-notch service, flavorful dishes, and lively music throughout the evening. In short, Paro delivers not just a meal or a drink, but a complete sensory experience – the kind Jaipur has seldom seen before.

Events and Collaborations: Elevating Jaipur’s Bar Scene

In addition to its nightly operations, Paro actively engages the wider hospitality scene through creative events and collaborations. In its first year, Paro’s team took their show on the road with multi-city bar takeovers, showcasing Jaipur’s flavors in other metros and making a mark on India’s cocktail map. The bar’s innovative approach earned it roles as the official pouring partner for high-profile happenings like the Indian Polo Awards, and it even hosted Jaipur’s first Superkicks street-culture event, melding mixology with music, fashion, and art. Paro frequently invites renowned mixologists and chef talents for special nights – for instance, a guest bartender session saw the “crazy energy of Delhi’s Whisky Samba bar hit the classic vibe of Paro” in a spirited crossover event, much to the delight of Jaipur’s cocktail aficionados. The venue has also launched an exclusive tasting series titled “Paro Got A Star,” featuring collaborative dinners with Michelin-starred chefs and 9-course menus that explore the depths of Indian flavor in fine dining format. These buzz-worthy experiences have firmly positioned Paro as a forward-thinking trendsetter in Jaipur’s hospitality landscape. Media outlets have been quick to recognize Paro’s impact – Condé Nast Traveller hailed it as a potential “next hotspot” for the city’s posh crowds and noted how it draws “fashion-forward people, groovy music and mixology masters” every weekend. Likewise, culture publications have praised how Paro, by digging deep into local culture while embracing modern ideas, “cut through the noise” and made a name for itself nationally in a short span.

As Paro continues to thrive, its founding team shows no signs of slowing down. With an eye on taking Jaipur’s nightlife to new heights, they are pursuing further collaborations, high-profile takeovers, and creative events that blur the lines between bar, restaurant, and cultural space. Yet, at its core, Paro remains what it set out to be – a destination bar where locals and visitors alike can savor India’s rich flavors in a chic setting that honors the past while celebrating the present. In doing so, Paro has firmly established itself as a crown jewel in Jaipur’s evolving hospitality scene – a place where heritage, innovation, and impeccable hospitality come together to create magic nightly.

Via.com records 14% YOY growth in bookings; July and January emerge as peak months across leisure and spiritual travel

National, March, 2026: Via.com (a subsidiary of Ebix Travels) has recorded a strong 14% year-on-year growth in overall booking volumes at the start of the current fiscal year, highlighting positive travel sentiment across domestic and international segments. Building on last year’s steady momentum, the company anticipates continued double-digit growth through the year, supported by peak seasonal demand, expansion in regional markets, and rising spiritual tourism flows.

Historical booking data highlights that July and January consistently emerged as the highest volume months for the platform, each significantly outperforming average monthly benchmarks. July witnessed a surge driven by international short-haul getaways, monsoon leisure travel, and increased demand for domestic wellness retreats and hill-station destinations. The December–January period marks another surge, with January benefiting from holiday spillover demand and the commencement of peak spiritual travel across key pilgrimage destinations.

Geographical trends reveal a distinct seasonal shift in demand patterns. During the summer months of April to June, volumes are focussed in leisure- destinations such as Kangra, Rishikesh, and Mysore. As the calendar transitions into the October–January window, booking activity moves significantly toward spiritual and heritage centres including Varanasi (Banaras), Haridwar, and Agra reflecting the expanding economic contribution of faith-driven tourism.

Strengthening its regional footprint, Via.com continues to scale its Business Associate Centre (BAC) model as a key growth lever, delivering a consistent 30% year-on-year expansion. The network currently operates 20 centres nationwide and is set to double to 40 by the end of 2026, significantly enhancing the company’s reach across emerging markets. New centres planned in Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati, and Srinagar are expected to unlock additional tourism demand by bringing structured, technology-enabled travel services to high-potential regional corridors.

The company’s agent-led ecosystem continues to play a significant role in scaling volumes. Agents leveraging Via.com’s integrated digital platform have reported a 25–30% increase in booking capacity, enhancing both transaction efficiency and customer reach. Additionally, the company’s international expansion in Singapore and the UAE is contributing to high-frequency transit and short-haul international bookings, helping diversify revenue streams beyond domestic seasonal cycles.

Commenting on the performance, Ankur Sharmaa, Chief Business Officer, Via.com (Ebix Travels), “Our growth trajectory is anchored in our phygital strategy, which integrates a robust digital platform with an expanding regional network. As we scale our agent and BAC ecosystem, we are seeing measurable productivity gains and stronger penetration in key leisure and spiritual hubs. Our focus is on building a scalable, data-driven platform that delivers consistent value to partners and customers alike.”

Adding to this, Vikas Garg, Chairman, Ebix Group, said, “Our diversified model spanning leisure, spiritual tourism, and international transit allows us to balance seasonality while sustaining steady expansion. We remain confident of maintaining strong growth momentum through the year”

With booking volumes already tracking ahead of last year and key peak months approaching, Via  expects sustained performance through the festive and spiritual travel season, highlighting its position in India’s evolving travel ecosystem.

Summit Hotels & Resorts Sharpens Wedding Focus in Rishikesh, Renovates Riverside Inventory to Capture Celebration Demand

New Delhi, March 2026: Summit Hotels & Resorts has completed a comprehensive upgrade at Summit by the Ganges Beach Resort & Spa in Shivpuri, within the larger Rishikesh hospitality corridor. The enhancement reinforces the group’s positioning in one of Uttarakhand’s most sought-after riverfront destinations.

The defining feature of the property is its direct access to a white-sand private beach along the Ganges, a distinction shared by only a small number of hotels in the upper Rishikesh belt. The riverfront setting, combined with mountain views and a large inventory of Ganges-facing rooms, places the resort in a differentiated category within the regional market.

As part of the upgrade, an entire accommodation wing has undergone complete refurbishment, including redesigned interiors, upgraded bathrooms, new woodwork and enhanced lighting. Select rooms now include bathtubs, further strengthening the premium stay experience.

The property caters to a diverse mix of travellers, including experiential leisure guests, family getaways, corporate offsites and curated destination weddings. It has hosted approximately 35 weddings this year, accommodating celebrations of 150 to 200 guests.

Commenting on the development, Sumit Mitruka, Founder and CEO, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “Rishikesh today attracts multiple travel segments across the year, from spiritual and adventure tourism to experiential leisure and celebrations. Our focus is to align product quality with the natural advantage that limited riverfront access provides, while ensuring the property remains relevant across traveller categories.” With the latest enhancement, Summit continues to consolidate its presence in Uttarakhand’s evolving hospitality landscape.

Sayaji Hotels Expands Strategic Presence with Business-Centric Effotel by Sayaji in Sangli

Sangli, Maharashtra, March, 2026: In a significant development for Western Maharashtra’s hospitality landscape, Sayaji Hotels announced the launch of Effotel by Sayaji, Sangli, the group’s newest property under its Effotel brand. Strategically located within Shiv R City Mall on Sangli-Miraj Road, the property marks a timely entry into Sangli, a city long known for its robust commercial and agricultural activity yet notably underserved in quality branded accommodation.

This addition makes Effotel by Sayaji, Sangli, the third Effotel property in Maharashtra, joining its sister properties in Sarola, Pune district, and Navi Mumbai, reinforcing the group’s deepening commitment to the state and its vision of bringing mid-upscale hospitality to Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

Effotel by Sayaji, Sangli offers 59 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms across five categories: 15 Grande Rooms (284 sq. ft.), 34 Premium Grande Rooms (309 sq. ft.), 6 Executive Grande Rooms (373 sq. ft.), 2 Grande Suites (506 sq. ft.), and 2 Premium Suites (766 sq. ft.), catering to business travellers, leisure guests, and discerning long-stay visitors alike.

Dining at the property is set to be a key highlight, with two distinct food and beverage outlets: The Cube, an all-day dining restaurant with a capacity of 120 covers, and Good Old Days, a bar seating 30 guests, catering to both hotel residents and local patrons seeking quality dining experiences in the city.

The hotel features two versatile banquet spaces, Jardin 1 and Jardin 2. Jardin 1 spans 4,295 sq. ft. and can accommodate up to 350 guests in theatre-style seating, while Jardin 2 covers 2,355 sq. ft. with a capacity of 150 guests in a theatre format. Together, they position Effotel by Sayaji, Sangli as a well-equipped MICE and social event destination in the city, a significant advantage in a market that has historically lacked premium banqueting facilities.

Widely regarded as the Turmeric Capital of India, Sangli is a thriving agrarian and commercial hub also known for its grape cultivation. Conveniently located just 7 km from Sangli Railway Station and 50 km from Kolhapur Airport, the property ensures easy access for both domestic travellers and regional visitors.

The property’s location is particularly strategic given Sangli’s proximity to Kolhapur, a major cultural and commercial centre housing the revered Mahalakshmi Temple and a rapidly growing business district, as well as access to notable regional attractions including Chandoli National Park in the Western Ghats, Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, Sangli Fort, and the serene Dandoba Hills Forest Reserve.

Mr. Rajendra Joshi, Associate General Manager at Sayaji Hotels, said, “Sangli has always been an economically active and culturally significant city, yet it has not had the branded hospitality infrastructure its stature deserves. Effotel by Sayaji, Sangli changes that narrative. This is not just another hotel opening; it is a commitment to elevating the travel and events experience for an entire region. With our Effotel brand, we bring the promise of quality, warmth, and value to markets ready to embrace it. The Kolhapur-Sangli belt represents tremendous potential for business and leisure travel, and we are proud to be the first from our portfolio to plant our flag here.”

Mr. Avinash Gangwani, Director, LKG Lifestyle LLP, shared, “When we envisioned this project, we saw a clear gap. Sangli is a city that punches well above its weight economically, but visitors and business delegations have had very few quality accommodation options. Being part of the Effotel by Sayaji family brings not just a trusted brand name but a proven model of hospitality excellence. Now that we have handed over our property to Sayaji Group, we place complete trust in their exceptional services and operational expertise. We are confident this property will redefine Sangli’s position on Maharashtra’s hospitality map and will serve as a catalyst for the city’s growing tourism and corporate event ecosystem, especially given our proximity to the pilgrimage and tourism circuit around Kolhapur.”

For families, pilgrims, corporate delegates, MICE groups, agri-trade professionals visiting Sangli’s markets, and tourists using Sangli as a base to explore the Kolhapur-Sangli belt, this property is set to become a natural first choice.

Travel as a teacher : How the world shapes the way we think, work and live

Travel has always been more than simply moving from one place to another. It is one of our most effective teachers, quietly challenging our assumptions and shaping how we understand ourselves and the world. As travel becomes increasingly purposeful, its role as a source of learning feels more relevant than ever. Stepping into a new environment; whether a global city or a remote cultural landscape, naturally widens our lens, fostering a mindset that is observant, balanced, and open.

What makes travel such a potent educator is its ability to reduce geographical and emotional distance. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn about other cultures through immersion rather than instruction. Conversations with locals dismantle preconceptions, while unfamiliar surroundings prompt reflection. This exposure cultivates a profound sense of humility, reminding us that our way of life is just one thread in a vast, diverse tapestry. It teaches us to listen more than we speak and to respect the rhythms of communities different from our own.

The lessons of travel do not arrive in neat chapters; they emerge through experience. Navigating an unfamiliar foreign market sharpens intuition, while a missed flight teaches adaptability. Life on a cruise offers its own unique curriculum, patience through the shared rhythms of life at sea and perspective gained from moving between destinations without the urgency of constant transit. Interestingly, cruising is often 30% cheaper than land-based travel when factoring in the logistics of moving between multiple countries, making this global classroom more accessible.

For professionals navigating a changing environment, such learning is essential. Organizations value those who can collaborate across cultures and respond thoughtfully to new situations. Travel nurtures these qualities organically, turning each journey into real-world mentorship. It offers the space to reflect, reset, and return with renewed clarity.

As this mindset evolves, we see a clear progression in how people explore. Many begin with short, regional journeys that are familiar and easy. With experience, confidence grows, and so does curiosity. Travelers eventually seek longer, more distinctive itineraries, moving from mere convenience toward intentional exploration. Families and young professionals alike are discovering that when approached with openness, travel does more than take us places; it expands how we think, how we connect, and how we grow. It is a reminder that the world remains the most accessible classroom for those willing to engage with what lies beyond the familiar.

Skyscanner Launches a Smarter Way to Find 2026’s Cheapest Destinations

NEW Cheapest Destination Planner tool helps travellers find the lowest priced destinations and best value day to fly each month of the year

New Delhi,2026: Indians are stepping into 2026 with their bags half-packed and wanderlust switched on, but planning the perfect trip is proving more challenging than ever. According to leading global travel app Skyscanner, 84% of Indian travellers are considering international trips this year, signalling a strong appetite to explore. Responding to these real planning pain points, Skyscanner revealed its Top 10 Cheapest Destinations for Indian Travellers in 2026, alongside the launch of a NEW Cheapest Destination Planner designed to simplify value-led travel decisions and make planning smarter.

Neel Ghose, Skyscanner Travel Trends & Destinations Expert, highlights how Indians are planning their travel ahead

At an event hosted in Delhi, Skyscanner shared these insights and explored how Indians are prioritising and planning their trips for the year ahead. Speaking at the event, Neel Ghose, Travel Trends & Destinations Expert, Skyscanner, said: “January is a peak moment in the travel cycle. We’re already seeing searches in the first week of January 2026 up 25% compared to the same period in 2025[1] - highest volume recorded since 2024 - signalling that Indians are heading into the year with renewed intent for travel planning in January. Travellers are keen to explore in the year ahead – 89% say they’re open to alternative or lesser-known holiday destinations, while 77% plan to splurge on a luxury hotel stay on the final night of their holiday, yet they’re navigating post-year fatigue, rising cost perceptions and an overwhelming number of choices. The real opportunity, in January, is to replace that anxiety with clarity, which is why we’ve introduced our new Cheapest Destination Planner to help travellers instantly compare options by month, see the cheapest destinations to fly to, and plan with greater confidence and value.”

2026 Travel Planning Trends:

  • Early Planning Momentum: January has become a clear planning inflection point for Indian travellers, with 73% mapping out trips at the start of the year. Driven by an emotional need to slow down, 67% plan holidays in January specifically to recharge and create breathing space after an intense year.

  • Lifestyle Trade-Off & Compromises: 49% Indian travellers say they’ve made personal financial sacrifices, from skipping meals out to forgoing haircuts, to make their last holiday possible. When saving for trips, 46% are even willing to skip buying new clothes, while 32% are open to cutting back on socialising with friends.

  • High Travel Intent, Higher Overwhelm: Many Indian travellers haven’t confirmed their 2026 trips yet simply because they’re overwhelmed: 46% are worried about costs, 45% are struggling with when to travel, and 40% are unsure where to go.

Skyscanner Launches NEW Cheapest Destination Planner

The research also found that 50% Indian travellers say they would be more likely to book their holidays in January if they simply had clarity on the cheapest destinations and the cheapest day to fly. To help travellers compare options effortlessly and book with confidence, Skyscanner has launched its NEW Cheapest Destination Planner, designed to cut through the stress of decision-making, allowing travellers to select their preferred month and instantly see the cheapest destinations to fly to, alongside average flight prices and the cheapest day to travel.

That’s why smart solutions really matter. For me, it’s about travelling efficiently so you can enjoy the moments that help you truly switch off, making sure the trip actually feels worth it. Skyscanner’s new Cheapest Destination Planner makes those decisions simpler and quicker, so you spend less time worrying and more time looking forward to the trip. It makes it much easier for people to discover great-value destinations!"

Busting Myths & Taking The Stress Out of Planning

  • Skyscanner’s analysis also revealed that, on average, Wednesday is the cheapest day to fly in 2026: a fact that is surprising to many, given that only around three in ten correctly identified midweek travel as the most cost-effective.

  • While 67% anticipate flight costs exceeding INR 30,000 for their main 2026 holiday, Skyscanner has analysed millions of flight prices to identify the Top 10 Cheapest Destinations for Indian Travellers in 2026, with average return fares starting from only under INR 10,000, proving that great trips don’t have to come with a hefty price tag. (Refer to appendix for the complete list).

Air India will also operate non-stop flights between Mumbai and Tokyo (Haneda) from 15 June 2026, in addition to its Delhi-Tokyo (Haneda) services.

Enabling flexible Open Jaw itineraries to and from Vietnam

The new services to Hanoi will operate five times a week, complementing daily flights to Ho Chi Minh City. This provides greater flexibility to travellers who intend to visit Vietnam with open jaw itineraries, i.e. entering from Hanoi and exiting Ho Chi Minh City or vice versa.

Air India will deploy its A320neo aircraft on the Delhi-Hanoi route, featuring world-class cabin interiors across Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The opening of this new route adds 7,028 seats to and from Vietnam each month.

Air India flights to and from Vietnam enable convenient connections to several destinations across the airline’s domestic and international route networks, including the United Kingdom and rest of Europe.

Boosting connectivity to Japan

The new services between Mumbai and Tokyo (Haneda) will operate four times a week with Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

Recently, Air India increased frequency between Delhi and Tokyo (Haneda), going from 4x weekly to 7x weekly. Effective 14 February 2026, the airline has also upgraded its product offering on the route with its B787-9 aircraft, featuring world-class cabin interiors and introducing Premium Economy on the route for the first time.

With this, Air India guests travelling to Japan now experience a transformed onboard flying experience with new cabin interiors, modern inflight entertainment systems, WiFi internet connectivity, and refreshed inflight meal menus and beverage collection.

Air India has an active codeshare partnership with fellow Star Alliance member airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA), to provide its guests convenient onward connections from Tokyo Haneda to 6 other major cities in Japan, namely Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, said: “Since Air India’s privatisation, we have significantly grown our network across Southeast Asia and the Far East, having added several new routes, optimised flight schedules to enable convenient cross-continent connections, forged new partnerships with other carriers, and deploying upgraded cabin products progressively.”

He added: “Japan and Vietnam have both emerged as fast-growing destinations for Indian travellers, while India’s economic and commercial ties with both nations continue to deepen and present more opportunities for business and trade on both sides. The launch of these new routes supports this growth and strengthens our presence in the region.”

Japan has rapidly emerged as one of the fastest-growing outbound destinations for Indian travellers. According to the Japan National Tourism Organisation, over 3,15,000 Indians visited Japan in 2025, representing a 35% increase over 2024 and nearly 80% growth compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Vietnam continues to gain popularity among leisure travellers and corporate groups alike for its soaring tourism and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) movements. The country now ranks as the third-most-visited country in Southeast Asia, having recorded over 20 million visitors in 2025.

Under the ‘Aai’ Policy, women tourists and entrepreneurs will receive special benefits

Mumbai, March: Tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors, and to increase women’s participation in this field, the State Government and the Maharashtra Tourism Department have implemented several policies. One of their key initiatives is the ‘AAI’ Policy, launched to empower women across the state and boost tourism. Under this policy, women are offered multiple opportunities to develop business and leadership skills within the tourism sector.

The policy offers interest-free loans of up to ₹15 lakh and an interest-reimbursement facility for seven years to women entrepreneurs looking to start a tourism business. The response to the initiative has been good. As part of the initiative, 4,200 applications have been received, indicating high interest among women entrepreneurs. Out of these 4,200 applications, 3,292 Letters of Intent have been generated, which is a good achievement for any government initiative.

As part of the initiative, 900 loans have been sanctioned, amounting to ₹72.49 crore. In addition, ₹1.67 crore has been sanctioned for interest reimbursement, indicating that the government is financially supporting women entrepreneurs. The policy is receiving a larger-than-life response from the Konkan, Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Nashik divisions.

The five pillars of the ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy are promoting women's entrepreneurship, developing infrastructure for women, ensuring the safety of women tourists, providing customised services and concessions for women tourists, and promoting tourism in general. Tourism has the potential to be an important driver of the progress of women in the country. Keeping that in view, the ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy has provided a number of incentives for the development of women entrepreneurship.

According to the ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy, in every taluka of the state, up to ten tourism-related business enterprises owned and run by women, registered with the Directorate of Tourism, will be provided support for the interest on loans of up to ₹15 lakh taken from any bank. The interest amount will be directly transferred by the government to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the women entrepreneurs, at a maximum rate of 12%. This support will be provided for a maximum of seven years, whichever is earlier: until the loan is fully paid or ₹4.5 lakh is reached. Certain conditions will be applicable in this regard.

To qualify for the loan, the tourism business must be registered with the Directorate of Tourism and owned and operated by a woman. In the case of women-owned tour and travel agencies, at least 50% of the employees must be women. The business must also have the required licenses and permits, and the loan instalments must be paid regularly.

As per the ‘Aai’ policy, female employees working in tourism businesses registered with the Directorate, such as female tour guides, female drivers, and female tour operators, will be registered under insurance schemes conducted by the central or state government. The government will pay the insurance premiums for the first five years.

A 20% discount on tourism circuits and packages arranged through tour operators of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation would be provided to women tourists. In addition, a 50% discount would be provided to all women tourists on online bookings for MTDC resorts and units on 23 specified dates throughout the year, including March 1 to 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, and on 22 other specified dates throughout the year.

Special tours for senior women citizens, women with disabilities, women-only one-day city tours, adventure tours, trekking tours, etc., would also be arranged. Facilities for women tourists: Stalls would be provided to women’s self-help groups to sell handicrafts, artworks, and food products at properties of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation. Other facilities would include rooms near elevators for elderly or differently-abled women, special recreational facilities, childcare for women tourists with children up to five years of age, etc.

Under the women-centric and gender-inclusive ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy, women entrepreneurs can opt for a variety of tourism-related businesses, including agro-tourism ventures, eateries, restaurants, cafes, homestays, tourism villas, adventure tourism ventures, houseboats, and more. This way, the policy aims to boost the economic empowerment of women and the tourism sector as a whole.

Shri. Shambhuraj Desai, Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra

The ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy is not only beneficial in providing financial incentives; it is also promoting women's leadership skills more broadly. Women in the tourism industry are coming forward not only to participate but also to act as entrepreneurs and to create new employment opportunities. Through the implementation of the ‘Aai’ Tourism Policy, the self-reliance of women in the state is getting a new direction in both rural and urban areas, and the state's tourism industry is also getting a boost through the expansion of the tourism sector, making it a prominent role player in the development of the state's tourism landscape in the near future.

Shri. Sanjay Khandare (IAS), Principal Secretary (Tourism), Government of Maharashtra

“The women-centric tourism policy, ‘AAI’, is proving beneficial towards encouraging women entrepreneurs and bringing financial empowerment to women in the tourism sector. This scheme has already helped many women, including women travellers, across the state. The policy aims to support women’s economic development and boost the state’s tourism industry.”

Dr. B. N. Patil (IAS), Director, Directorate of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra

“The Aai Tourism Policy has been implemented to encourage women's empowerment and women-centric tourism. This is gradually increasing women's involvement in the tourism industry. Women receive financial incentives under this scheme to establish tourism-related enterprises. Similarly, this policy has ensured the safety and convenience of women tourists. The tourism industry can be expected to develop rapidly with women entrepreneurs leading the charge.”

Five-Star Hotel Project in Silchar; Polo Hotels Group to Develop First Luxury Property in Barak Valley

Silchar, March, 2026: In a major boost to hospitality infrastructure in Southern Assam, the Assam Cabinet has approved the development of Silchar’s first five-star hotel, to be built by Polo Hotels Group with an investment of approximately ₹103 crore. The announcement marks a significant step towards strengthening the tourism, business, and events ecosystem of the Barak Valley.

Announcing the decision, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam said, “Today, our cabinet has given a go ahead to construct a Five Star hotel in Silchar, to Polo Hotels Group. The Polo Hotels Group will be spending around 103 crore rupees on this project. This is going to be the first five-star hotel in Silchar.”

The project will introduce international-standard luxury hospitality infrastructure to the Barak Valley for the first time, positioning Silchar, the commercial and administrative hub of Southern Assam, to host high-value travel, corporate engagements, and large-scale events.

International-Standard Hospitality Infrastructure

The proposed luxury hotel will feature 100 premium rooms and suites, designed to meet global hospitality benchmarks while reflecting the cultural character of the Barak Valley.

Key facilities will include multiple specialty restaurants and bars, a resort-style swimming pool, a full-service spa and wellness centre, a modern fitness facility, and state-of-the-art banquet and conference infrastructure capable of hosting corporate summits, exhibitions, weddings, and government events.

Industry analysts note that India’s hospitality sector has witnessed a strong rebound in recent years. According to tourism estimates, India recorded more than 2.3 billion domestic tourist visits in 2023, while demand for MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) has expanded rapidly across emerging regional cities.

Expansion Strategy of Polo Hotels Group

The Silchar project forms part of an ambitious expansion plan by Polo Hotels Group, one of Northeast India’s most established hospitality brands.

Alongside the Silchar development, the Group is currently building 10 additional hotels across Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, and Nagaland, significantly expanding its footprint across Eastern and Northeastern India. This pipeline of projects is expected to position the company among the largest hospitality operators headquartered in Northeast India, reinforcing its long-term commitment to developing world-class tourism and hospitality infrastructure across the region.

Mr. Deval Tibrewalla, Chief Executive Officer of Polo Hotels Group, said, “Silchar is one of the most important gateway cities in Northeast India, and requires hospitality infrastructure required to support its growing economic and institutional importance. This project is not just about building a hotel; it is about enabling the next phase of growth for the Barak Valley. As a company rooted in the Northeast, we see it as our responsibility to bring world-class experiences to emerging cities and unlock their full potential. The Silchar hotel, along with our expanding pipeline across the region, reflects our long-term commitment to building the largest and most trusted hospitality platform in Northeast India.”

Economic Impact and Employment

Hospitality infrastructure projects of this scale generate significant multiplier effects across local economies. Industry estimates suggest that each hotel room can generate around 2 direct jobs, along with additional employment across sectors such as food supply chains, transportation, event management, and local services.

The Silchar project is therefore expected to create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities, while supporting local businesses, producers, and service providers across the Barak Valley.

Strengthening Tourism and Business Travel

Once operational, the hotel is expected to establish a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in Southern Assam, enabling Silchar to host national-level conferences, policy meetings, corporate gatherings, and destination events that were previously constrained by the lack of premium accommodation facilities.

The development also reflects a broader shift in India’s hospitality landscape, where emerging regional cities are increasingly becoming the next frontier for tourism and business travel infrastructure.

About Polo Hotels Group

Polo Hotels Group is Northeast India’s largest hotel company, operating a portfolio of upscale hotels and resorts across key destinations in the region. Known for pioneering developments in underserved markets, the Group combines contemporary design, service excellence, and deep regional expertise to create distinctive hospitality experiences.

Complementing the culinary spread are refreshing beverages, including unlimited mocktails like the tropical Virgin Piña Colada and the delightful Nutty Gamble, crafted to keep guests refreshed throughout the afternoon.

For those looking to elevate the experience further, the brunch also features an extensive bar menu offering whisky, rum, vodka, gin, tequila, brandy, wine, and draught beer, alongside signature cocktails such as the elegant Lady of the Night (Gin) and the timeless Whiskey Sour.

Adding to the lively Sunday atmosphere is live music, setting the mood for an afternoon that feels both relaxed and celebratory. The combination of great food, handcrafted drinks, and soulful music transforms the brunch into an experience rather than just a meal.

At July 7, the Bubbly Sunday Brunch is designed to be more than a weekend outing, it’s a celebration of food, flavour, and togetherness. Whether it’s a gathering with friends, a family get-together, or simply an excuse to unwind, the brunch promises an afternoon worth savouring.
