PeekABoo, Cleartrips travel trends tracker, has noticed a powerful shift in how Indian women are travelling more independently, more intentionally, and with greater control over their journeys.

One of the strongest trends emerging is the rise of all-women international group travel, which has surged by nearly 36% YoY. 

At the same time, solo international women travellers are displaying stronger planning behaviour and greater spend confidence. There has been a 40% rise in UPI usage and a 17% increase in credit card transactions, indicating higher digital adoption and direct control over payments.

Beyond bookings, women travellers are investing more in comfort and preparedness:

  • 34% increase in pre-booked meals

  • 23.7% rise in seat selection

  • 33.2% growth in baggage add-ons

Where are they travelling?

On the international front, destinations like Dubai, Denpasar (Bali), London, Colombo, and Singapore are leading the charts. These locations offer a mix of short-haul accessibility, strong connectivity, safety perception, and experience-driven itineraries.

Interestingly, the highest outbound departures are originating from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, pointing to strong participation from metro-based working professionals and urban travellers.

Domestically, there are also sharp spikes in travel interest beyond traditional leisure circuits. Cities like Ghaziabad (Hindon), Gorakhpur, and Darbhanga have seen significant booking jumps, reflecting how air connectivity is opening up newer routes and enabling women to travel more frequently across regions.

Bengaluru, March 2026: The Karnataka Tourism Society (KTS) is set to host its next series of Destination Promotion B2B Roadshows in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Hyderabad from 9th to 11th March 2026, organized in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd. Sikkim currently has the capacity to host approximately 42,000–45,000 tourists per day, and the addition of 150 luxury rooms in the city centre is expected to attract higher-spending domestic and international travellers.

The 150-room hotel will be developed within a larger 3.27-acre master planned site and is designed to address the existing demand-supply gap in the luxury segment, particularly within the city centre where premium inventory remains limited.

The project will be developed by Gyalshing Hotels Private Limited, an SPV under SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd, the hospitality arm of SM Developers. While speaking on the project, Mr. Vikas Agarwal, MD & CEO, SM Developers, said, “This development marks a significant milestone for Sikkim’s hospitality landscape. Designed by SCSY Studio, Singapore to global standards, the hotel will offer experiential luxury, premium culinary offerings, and modern event infrastructure. We are confident it will emerge as the preferred destination for discerning travellers, corporate delegations, and international visitors exploring the Eastern Himalayas.”

The hotel will feature a 180-cover all-day dining restaurant with alfresco seating, a specialty restaurant, bar and lounge, Regency Club, a temperature-controlled outdoor swimming pool, a 3,000 sq. ft. spa, gymnasium, family activity zones, and approximately 13,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting and event spaces, positioning it as a key anchor for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism in the Eastern Himalayas. The integrated development will also include a licensed casino facility, further strengthening Gangtok’s positioning in high-value tourism and regulated entertainment hospitality.

With large-format event infrastructure integrated into the project, the hotel is also expected to support festival tourism, conventions, destination weddings, cultural showcases, and corporate summits, thereby enabling Gangtok to evolve into a year-round events destination aligned with national initiatives such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0.

The project is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment, strengthen local supply chains across agriculture and services, and catalyse allied sectors including transport, handicrafts, and cultural tourism.

With this development, the Government of Sikkim reinforces its strategy of attracting responsible private investment into high-quality infrastructure, strengthening Gangtok’s global positioning, and ensuring tourism-led growth that is sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready.
