Experiences Are Winning: Why Hospitality Stands at the Centre of India's Next Consumer Boom

For decades, consumer spending was largely defined by ownership. The bigger house, the newer car, the latest gadget—success was often measured by what people possessed.

Today, that equation is changing.

Across India and the Asia-Pacific region, consumers are increasingly choosing memories over material possessions, experiences over products, and stories over status symbols. According to recent CBRE data, spending on experiences in India is projected to grow at a 10.3% CAGR between 2025 and 2030, surpassing the growth rate of spending on physical goods, which is expected to expand at 9.1%.

For the hospitality industry, this shift is more than a trend. It represents a fundamental restructuring of consumer behaviour—and one that places hotels at the heart of the experience economy.

The New Luxury: Living, Not Owning

The rise of the experience economy reflects broader societal changes.

Consumers, particularly younger generations, are placing greater value on personal enrichment, wellness, travel, culture, community, and self-expression. Experiences are increasingly viewed not as discretionary purchases but as essential investments in quality of life.

A weekend retreat, a culinary journey, a wellness escape, or a culturally immersive stay now carries emotional value that often exceeds the appeal of another physical purchase.

This evolution is especially visible among younger travellers who prioritise authenticity, individuality, and meaningful connections over traditional luxury markers.

Hotels Lead the Growth Story

Among all experiential categories, hotel accommodation is expected to be the fastest-growing segment, with CBRE forecasting a 10.6% CAGR through 2030.

This is significant because it highlights how hotels are no longer viewed simply as places to sleep. Increasingly, they serve as destinations, social hubs, wellness centres, cultural platforms, and lifestyle ecosystems.

Guests today seek experiences that extend beyond room amenities. They want local stories, personalised service, curated dining, wellness offerings, community engagement, and design that reflects a sense of place.

The most successful hospitality brands are responding by creating environments where the stay itself becomes the attraction.

Gen Z Is Reshaping Hospitality

A major force behind this transformation is Generation Z.

Now the largest demographic bloc across Asia-Pacific, Gen Z is entering its prime spending years and bringing a distinctly different set of expectations to the market.

Unlike previous generations, Gen Z travellers are highly experience-oriented. They actively seek discovery, individuality, and social connection. They value brands that align with their identity and are quick to reward businesses that offer authenticity and purpose.

For hotels, this means designing experiences that are memorable, shareable, and meaningful rather than simply luxurious.

The traditional hospitality playbook focused on standardisation and predictability. The new playbook prioritises uniqueness, storytelling, flexibility, and emotional engagement.

The Rise of Lifestyle Hotels

Perhaps the clearest evidence of this shift is the growth of lifestyle hotels.

Across Asia-Pacific, lifestyle hotel supply expanded at a remarkable 19% CAGR between 2015 and 2025. By comparison, the broader hotel market grew at approximately 5% annually during the same period.

Lifestyle hotels occupy a space between traditional luxury and conventional accommodation. They are often design-led, experience-driven, locally inspired, and deeply connected to culture and community.

Rather than selling rooms, they sell a way of living—even if only for a few days.

From curated food and beverage concepts to locally rooted experiences and distinctive design narratives, lifestyle hotels create emotional connections that resonate strongly with modern travellers.

Their rapid expansion across the region suggests that developers, operators, and investors increasingly view the segment as one of hospitality's most attractive growth opportunities.

India's Opportunity Is Just Beginning

Despite the momentum seen elsewhere in Asia-Pacific, India's lifestyle hotel segment remains relatively underpenetrated.

That gap may prove to be one of the industry's most compelling opportunities over the next decade.

India possesses many of the ingredients necessary for lifestyle hospitality to flourish: a young population, rising disposable incomes, rich cultural diversity, growing domestic tourism, and a rapidly expanding middle class eager to spend on experiences.

As consumer preferences continue to evolve, developers have an opportunity to create differentiated hospitality products that move beyond traditional hotel formats.

Investors, meanwhile, may find substantial upside in a segment that is still in its early stages of development compared to regional peers.

Beyond Rooms: Building Experience Ecosystems

The future of hospitality will likely be defined not by inventory but by experience design.

Hotels that succeed will be those that understand how guests want to feel, not simply what they want to buy.

Whether through wellness, gastronomy, culture, adventure, community, or sustainability, the industry's next phase of growth will come from creating meaningful moments that guests remember long after checkout.

The numbers suggest the direction is clear.

As experiences continue to outpace products in consumer spending, hospitality is uniquely positioned to capture a larger share of that wallet—and perhaps more importantly, a larger share of people's lives.

For an industry built on creating memories, the experience economy may be the greatest opportunity yet.

Why a new generation of travellers is choosing lifestyle hotels

A new CBRE report highlights how experience-led travel, evolving consumer preferences and Gen Z spending habits are accelerating the growth of lifestyle hotels.

The spending by Indians on experiences – recreational and cultural activities, restaurants, hotels, and travel – is expected to outpace the spending on physical goods between 2025 and 2030, according to a report titled “Gen Z Checks In: The Rise of the Lifestyle Hotel” released by world’s leading real estate services and investment firm CBRE. The expenditure on hotel accommodation is expected to grow even faster, making it one of the most dynamic consumer spending categories in the country.

An analysis of Oxford Economics data by CBRE Research projected that household expenditure by Indians on physical goods is likely to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% between 2025 and 2030. However, broader experiential spending is forecast to grow at a higher 10.3% CAGR over the same period. The spending on hotel accommodation is expected to grow at an even sharper 10.6% CAGR.

The report noted that the shift towards experiences was fundamentally accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Pent-up demand and a desire to make up for lost time have been driving the trend since 2022.

Gen Z driving the shift

The trend is being primarily driven by Generation Z, which currently accounts for the largest demographic bloc across the Asia Pacific region. As Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, achieve financial independence, their spending is forecast to expand faster than any other living generation, according to the report.

It added that Gen Z travelers demand striking, curated design environments that double as social media backdrops, personalized service that avoids corporate predictability, and activated communal spaces that host experiences such as wine tastings, acoustic performances, and local cultural events.

Wellness integration is equally non-negotiable, with seamless technology from self-check-in to smart-room automation, now firmly an expectation rather than differentiation.

Emergence of lifestyle hotels

According to CBRE, a new category of property, the lifestyle hotel, has emerged as the industry’s answer to this generational demand. Unlike boutique hotels or global chains, these hotels occupy a middle ground: the design and local character of an independent property, backed by the operational scale, distribution networks, and loyalty programs of an institutional brand.

Between 2015 and 2025, the overall hotel supply across the Asia Pacific region grew at a steady 5% CAGR. However, lifestyle hotels grew at 19% over the same period. Now till 2030, the supply of lifestyle hotels is projected to maintain a 10% CAGR, five times the 2% growth forecast for the broader hotel market.

Moreover, this growth is backed by clear pricing power. The report highlighted that in 2025, upper upscale lifestyle hotels across Asia Pacific commanded a 13% revenue per available room (RevPAR) premium over traditional properties in the same category. Upscale lifestyle brands added a further 7% premium, achieving this despite smaller room sizes by generating stronger food and beverage revenues and running leaner operations.

In India, the penetration of lifestyle hotels remains low as compared to markets like Singapore and Hong Kong. That gap is increasingly being read by developers and investors as an opportunity.

Industry perspectives

“The contemporary consumer no longer just purchases lodging but wants unique, culturally immersive, and digitally shareable environments,” said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO – India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE. “This structural shift towards experiential consumption is an enduring macroeconomic trend. For property owners and institutional investors, the lifestyle hotel segment represents a compelling double-win: measurable RevPAR and ADR premiums over standardized assets, and a capital-efficient conversion pathway that maximizes long-term asset value.”

Ada Choi, CFA – Head of Research, Asia Pacific, CBRE, said, “The experience economy is not a trend but a structural reset. The hospitality sector in the APAC region is at an exciting point in this journey. In India specifically, rising incomes, a maturing Gen Z consumer base, and a significant undersupply of lifestyle hospitality product are converging to create one of the most attractive investment environments in the region.”

The investment opportunity

According to CBRE, developers are increasingly turning to existing properties rather than building from scratch, given the rising land costs and construction expenses. Older, independent, unbranded hotels – of which India has a significant stock – are being converted and repositioned as lifestyle properties, often at a fraction of the cost of new development.

The smaller asset transactions are also dominating market liquidity. Assets valued under $100 million grew from 31% of total hotel investment volume across Asia Pacific in 2020 to 42% by 2025, with roughly 30% of traded assets comprising independent hotels ripe for repositioning.

To capitalize on the opportunity, CBRE suggested that developers adopt a market-specific approach, identifying local white spaces, prioritizing design flexibility to preserve future exit optionality, and activating public spaces and food and beverage concepts as community-facing amenities that serve transient guests and local neighborhood demand alike.

Cygnett Marks 12 Years of Growth, Surpasses 4,000 Keys; Wyndham Alliance Powers Journey to 100+ Hotels by 2030

New Delhi, June 2026: Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has completed 12 years of operations, marking a milestone in its evolution from a regional hospitality company into a national hotel management platform with more than 4,000 operational and under-development keys across over 41 destinations in India.

What began in 2014 with the belief that India’s next wave of hospitality growth would emerge beyond metropolitan cities has today evolved into a portfolio of 45 operational hotels and resorts spanning business destinations, leisure markets, pilgrimage centres, and emerging tourism hubs.

At a time when much of the industry remained focused on established gateway cities, Cygnett chose to build its presence in Tier II and Tier III markets and the North East—regions that have since witnessed rapid infrastructure development, improving connectivity and rising travel demand. The company was among the early branded hospitality players to establish a presence in destinations such as Ayodhya and several cities across the North East, anticipating long-term opportunities in these markets well before they entered mainstream hospitality conversations.

Today, Cygnett operates across multiple segments through brands including Cygnett Hotels, Cygnett Park, Cygnett Inn, Cozzet, Cygnett Resort/Retreat and Anamore, its luxury Upper Upscale hospitality platform catering to experiential and upscale travel.

As it enters its next phase of growth, the company is accelerating its expansion through a robust pipeline of hotels and resorts expected to open over the next 24 to 30 months. Upcoming projects are spread across high-growth destinations including Pushkar, Jaipur, Kasauli-Kiarighat, Srinagar, Goa, Sonapur, Guwahati, Itanagar, Jim Corbett, Gurugram, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chail, Ujjain, Panvel, Murud, Tirupati, Vrindavan, Tawang, Motihari, Dhanbad and Kharagpur, among others.

A defining chapter in Cygnett’s growth journey has been its strategic alliance with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company by number of hotels. Through this partnership, Cygnett is integrating global distribution capabilities, international sales reach and access to Wyndham Rewards®, one of the world’s largest hotel loyalty programmes with more than 122 million enrolled members globally.

The collaboration is also reshaping the company’s brand architecture. All upcoming hotels and resorts under development are planned to operate under Wyndham-affiliated brands, including Cygnett Hotels™, Cygnett Park™, Cygnett Inn™ and Cozzet™ under Trademark Collection® by Wyndham, alongside Anamore® and Anamore Select® under Registry Collection Hotels® by Wyndham and La Quinta® by Wyndham. The move is expected to significantly enhance international visibility, strengthen distribution and create long-term value for hotel owners and investors.

Several Cygnett properties have already been integrated into the Trademark Collection® by Wyndham portfolio, including hotels in Jaipur, Itanagar, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Bhubaneswar and Ayodhya, enabling them to benefit from Wyndham’s global reservation ecosystem while retaining their local identity.

Commenting on the milestone, Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, said, "When we started Cygnett twelve years ago, we were convinced that India's hospitality growth story would increasingly be shaped by emerging cities and untapped destinations. The North East, pilgrimage centres and regional markets offered immense potential, and our strategy was built around participating in this transformation long before it became an industry trend."

He further added, "As we enter the next phase of growth, our focus is on creating a globally connected hospitality platform rooted in regional India. Our partnership with Wyndham, expanding portfolio of brands and strong development pipeline position us well to capitalise on the evolving travel landscape and create long-term value for our stakeholders."

With India’s hospitality sector increasingly being driven by spiritual tourism, experiential travel, destination weddings and infrastructure-led commercial corridors, Cygnett believes the next decade of opportunity lies beyond traditional metropolitan markets. The company has set a target of surpassing 100 +hotels and 10,000+ keys by 2030, reinforcing its ambition to play a leading role in shaping the future of hospitality across India and South Asia.

Ingredient Ideology | The Art of Cooking Wonders Using Air Fryers by: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani, Celebrity Master Chef

Cooking trends in India have always evolved every few years, influenced by global methods and innovations. Post-pandemic, with health and immunity becoming priorities, air fryers emerged as a healthier alternative to deep frying.

What Is an Air Fryer?
An air fryer is a countertop appliance that uses a heating element and fan to circulate hot air, similar to a convection oven. Foods turn crispy outside and tender inside without actual frying. Philips introduced the first air fryer in 2010, and since then millions have been sold worldwide.

How Does an Air Fryer Work?
Air fryers use convection heat to brown and crisp food while keeping it moist inside. The Maillard reaction creates flavor and browning, giving results similar to deep frying but with minimal oil.

Success in India
Air fryers reduce oil usage, making fried snacks like samosa, aloo tikki, kulcha, and kachori healthier. Compact size suits small kitchens, though taste differences compared to deep frying remain.

Comfort in Cooking
Air fryers feature baskets and racks that allow hot air circulation at around 400°F. Some models include presets and digital controls for convenience.

Popular Foods Made in Air Fryer

  • French Fries

  • Chicken Fry / Koliwada Prawns

  • Paneer Kurkure

  • Baked Samosa

  • Aloo Tikki

  • Cookies / Nankhatai

  • Pizza

  • Air Fryer Chicken

  • Frozen Food

  • Bhajji / Pakora

Minus Points in India
Average size is 4L, too compact compared to OTG ovens. Batter-based items don’t taste the same as deep fried. Microwaves with slim fry options are preferred by many. Flavor-conscious consumers often remain unconvinced.

Recipes

1. Chatpati Aloo Tikkiya
Ingredients: Potatoes, peas, rice flour, turmeric, ginger-chilli paste, garam masala, coriander, oil.
Method: Steam potatoes, cook peas, mash with spices and flour. Shape patties, preheat air fryer at 200°C, air fry 7–8 mins, flip and cook 6 mins more. Serve with chutney.

2. Paneer Ka Kurkuredaar Snack
Ingredients: Paneer cubes, flour, chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, breadcrumbs, salt.
Method: Make batter, coat paneer, roll in breadcrumbs, refrigerate 10 mins. Air fry at 180°C for 8 mins, shake midway. Serve hot with chutney.

3. Murgh Alishan Fryer Snack
Ingredients: Chicken thighs, salt, pepper, buttermilk, eggs, flour, cajun spice, garlic, onion, paprika.
Method: Season chicken, dip in flour, buttermilk, flour again. Air fry at 180°C for 15–20 mins, spray oil, turn and cook 5–10 mins more.

4. Baked Khushnuma Samosa
Ingredients: Dough (flour, salt, oil), filling (paneer, cabbage, rajma, cheese, tomatoes, chilli flakes, peri peri, mayo).
Method: Prepare dough, mix filling, shape samosas, brush with oil. Air fry at 180°C for 15–17 mins. Serve hot.

5. Dilkhush Double Roti Stuffed Pockets
Ingredients: Sandwich bread, onion, corn, garlic, herbs, chilli flakes, mozzarella, pizza sauce, oil.
Method: Mix filling, soften bread slices with water, fill and fold, seal edges. Preheat air fryer at 180°C, cook 15 mins, brushing with oil midway. Serve hot.

Conclusion
Cooking is an art blending skill and creativity. While air fryers offer healthier options, traditional deep frying still holds its charm for authentic taste. Balance indulgence with exercise to manage health.

Happy Cooking!

The bathroom has become hospitality’s newest obsession

Driven by wellness, biophilic design, and sensory experiences, bathrooms are evolving from functional spaces into personal sanctuaries.

There was a time when bathrooms in hotels and homes were designed almost as an afterthought. Practical, polished and more importantly, efficient. Today, that thinking is outdated. The bathroom has quietly become one of the most emotionally charged spaces in interiors. Increasingly, it is also where people seek refuge from overstimulation, screens, noise and the relentless pace of modern life.

The new hospitality brief is no longer about impressing guests with excess marble or oversized tubs. It is about creating environments that calm the nervous system and encourage pause.

What people want from bathrooms has fundamentally changed. The desire now is for spaces that feel intentional, restorative and sensory. Designers are responding with softer palettes, tactile surfaces and layouts that feel immersive rather than clinical. A bathroom today is expected to evoke the atmosphere of a boutique spa or a slow luxury retreat. Lighting is gentler. Materials feel weathered and grounded. Every surface is chosen not only for appearance, but for how it feels to touch.

This shift also reflects a larger cultural move toward ritual and wellness. Daily routines such as showering, skincare or soaking in a bath are no longer rushed necessities. They have become moments of decompression.

Sterile is out

In 2026, warmth defines luxury. Earthy shades such as terracotta, sand, olive, sage and soft beige are replacing colder monochromes. These tones create a quieter atmosphere and soften the visual experience of the room. Stone inspired surfaces in travertine and limestone finishes are especially popular because they introduce texture without overwhelming the eye.

Bathrooms are also becoming far more tactile. Fluted wood cabinetry, handmade tiles, brushed bronze fittings and textured plaster walls create layers that feel comforting rather than decorative for the sake of decoration. The experience is sensory and intimate.

Even metal finishes have evolved. High shine chrome is giving way to brushed copper, graphite and aged bronze. These finishes feel softer and more human in a space designed for retreat.

Wellness driving the layout

The biggest influence on bathroom design today is wellness. Not wellness as performance, but as genuine restoration. Steam showers, sauna inspired enclosures and chromotherapy lighting are becoming increasingly common in luxury homes and hospitality projects alike. Heated floors, warm countertops and towel warmers are no longer seen as indulgences reserved for spas.

Lighting, in particular, has become central to the mood of the bathroom. Designers are layering illumination carefully, combining functional task lighting with concealed LED strips, halo mirrors and sculptural sconces. Warm light temperatures between 2700K and 3000K create a glow that feels soothing rather than stark. The effect is subtle but transformative.

Nature moves indoors

Biophilic design continues to shape bathroom interiors in meaningful ways. Plants, natural ventilation and raw materials help create an environment that feels connected to the outdoors. Mediterranean influences are especially visible right now, with terracotta, ceramics, rattan and potted greenery bringing softness into contemporary bathrooms. Alongside this, the Japandi aesthetic continues to resonate because of its restraint, simplicity and emphasis on natural textures.

Continuous surfaces are also becoming more popular. Large format tiles with minimal joints create a seamless, cocooning effect across floors and walls. The room begins to feel carved from a single material, which adds to the sense of quiet immersion.

Perhaps the most interesting evolution is that bathrooms no longer feel separate from the rest of the home. Vanities now resemble sideboards. Artwork, candles, rugs and collected objects bring personality into the room. The bathroom is treated with the same emotional attention as a living room or bedroom.

The Dali EDITION Opens in Yunnan, Marking a New Chapter for Contemporary Luxury in Southwest China

Defined by the dramatic interplay of Cangshan Mountain’s peaks and the stillness of Erhai Lake, Dali unfolds as a place shaped by nature, heritage, and a long-standing spirit of artistic and cultural exchange. EDITION, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio, reimagines this storied destination with the opening of The Dali EDITION, bringing a refined, contemporary perspective to Southwest China.

Set along the slopes of Cangshan Mountain at an elevation of 2,090 meters, The Dali EDITION overlooks the expansive Erhai Lake, a landscape shaped by centuries of trade routes and cultural exchange connecting Southwest China with its neighboring regions. Within close reach of Dali Railway Station and Dali Fengyi Airport – approximately 23 and 39 kilometers away, respectively – the hotel is positioned as a gateway to the region’s most enduring landmarks, including the Cangshan Mountain Scenic Area, the Three Pagodas, and Dali Old Town, anchoring the property within both the natural and cultural fabric of the destination.

“Dali carries a remarkable identity, shaped over centuries by exchange, artistry, and landscape,” said George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, EDITION. “With The Dali EDITION, we saw an opportunity to honor that history while introducing a distinctly contemporary point of view – one that reflects EDITION’s continued, thoughtful growth in China and our belief in creating places that feel both grounded and of the moment.”

A Contemporary Approach to Design

The hotel features 151 rooms and suites, including a collection of private villas with swimming pools, each thoughtfully oriented to frame views of the surrounding mountain, lake, or landscaped gardens. Conceived by Shenzhen Cheng Chung Design, the hotel unfolds as a modern neighborhood, quietly integrated into its natural setting. Interiors are anchored in materials drawn from the region – including aged timber, bluestone, and Erhai Lake pebbles, resulting in spaces that feel tactile, restrained, and intentional. Uninterrupted views inform the hotel’s materiality and palette, using Dali’s natural elements as a guiding canvas. Expansive glazing and open layouts create a sense of fluidity, balancing Eastern craftsmanship with a distinctly refined, international sensibility.

This design language extends within the guestrooms, where scale, proportion, and natural light establish a prevailing sense of calm. Beginning at 60 square meters, most rooms are oriented with views of Erhai Lake or Cangshan Mountain, with interiors layered in tactile materials and soft lighting to create an atmosphere of understated ease. Bathrooms, finished in white stone and articulated through subtle level changes and sunken soaking tubs, offer moments of stillness and retreat. At 250 square meters, the Presidential Suite expresses luxury through clarity and composition. An indoor pool, private courtyard, and expansive terrace extend the living room experience, while floor-to-ceiling windows reinforce a sense of openness and connection to the landscape. Ceilings rising over five meters, anchored by a suspended fireplace and a sculptural stone chandelier, introduce balance and a quiet drama to the space.

Dining, Rooted in Place

At The Dali EDITION, culinary experiences are guided by seasonality and a close connection to the land, with local ingredients sourced from the hotel’s vegetable garden and fruit orchard, offering a new interpretation of Yunnan’s diverse flavors. Dining venues are designed as light-filled, tranquil spaces, allowing the culinary experience to take center stage. Market at EDITION presents an all-day dining experience rooted in a farm-to-table philosophy, with open kitchens that highlight craft and immediacy. KUSHO is centered on wood-fired cooking, drawing on the intensity of local hardwood charcoal to create a menu defined by clarity, depth, and precision. The brand’s signature Lobby Bar anchors the hotel’s social rhythm, transitioning from daytime tea service to evening cocktails, balancing moments of connection with quiet retreat. The hotel will also feature a Chinese Restaurant, where elements of Bai architecture unfold throughout the space, with lines, textures, and materials harmoniously interwoven to create a dining environment that reflects the surrounding landscape.

A defining ritual at the hotel, Trail of the Tea Horse: A Harvest Journey unfolds at the Tea House set within the hotel’s landscaped grounds. Guests are invited to engage with each step of the tea-making process – from observing the leaves to tasting the infusion – offering an intimate lens into the depth and nuance of Yunnan’s tea culture. Set outdoors and framed by the surrounding landscape, the experience creates a direct connection between land, flavor, and ritual.

Moments of Connection and Renewal

The Dali EDITION introduces a considered collection of spaces for gathering, shaped by the dialogue between architecture and landscape. The Grand Ballroom is designed to move effortlessly from day to evening, supported by integrated lighting and acoustics, while an adjoining lawn extends the experience outdoors, framed by the presence of Cangshan Mountain. Four meeting studios offer flexible, design-forward environments for conferences, incentives, or exhibitions, equipped with advanced technology to support focused, elevated gatherings.

For guests seeking rejuvenation, the hotel’s Spa offers an exclusive sanctuary with five private treatment rooms, each opening to a serene courtyard. Grounded in Eastern philosophy and techniques, precious gemstones and natural botanicals are woven into a collection of therapies – from the Signature Pine Wood Massage and Jade Hot Stone Body Ritual to the Herbal Purifying Bath – each treatment is designed to release tension, ease the body, and restore a natural sense of balance. The Gym, situated in the same building, boasts state-of-the-art equipment and a unique indoor-outdoor yoga terrace, thoughtfully positioned to frame the surrounding mountainous views. Additionally, the hotel features a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, ideal for relaxation and invigorating laps year-round.

Drawing on Yunnan’s natural richness and deeply rooted local knowledge, experiences at the hotel are designed to unfold in rhythm with the region. Guided foraging journeys, including a mushroom hunt, offer guests an immersive lens into Yunnan’s enduring relationship with the land. From sunrise jogs along the mountain terrain, guided by the first light over Cangshan Mountain, to restorative sound bath sessions, where the resonant gong vibrations create moments of release, stillness, and renewal, each experience is thoughtfully curated.

“The opening of The Dali EDITION marks our third EDITION hotel in Greater China, underscoring the brand’s growing presence in the region,” said Bart Buiring, Managing Director, Luxury, Greater China, Marriott International. “Set within one of China’s most culturally distinctive destinations, the hotel reflects a shift toward travel experiences that are deeply rooted in place while shaped by contemporary design and global perspective.”

“We are delighted to welcome guests from across China and around the world to The Dali EDITION,” said Francine Ong, General Manager, The Dali EDITION. “The hotel embodies the ethos of inviting guests to engage deeply with the spirit of Dali while enjoying the highest standards of comfort and sophistication. Our team is committed to providing personalized service and meaningful engagement, ensuring that each guest experiences the beauty, culture, and warmth of Dali in every moment of their stay.”

India’s next travel boom could come from an unexpected generation

As senior travel gains momentum in India, Marzi is introducing a concierge service tailored to the needs of travellers aged 50 and above.

Marzi recently announced the launch of its unique travel concierge services. Powered by AI and their unique Gen EV score framework, the service combines personalised itinerary creation, intelligent, AI powered travel planning, booking assistance, visa and documentation services, Forex, airport assistance and real-time, on-call support, to help senior adults independently navigate travel with confidence, and ease.

Growing senior travel market

India’s senior population is becoming increasingly active and experience-driven. According to the Longitudinal Ageing Study of India (LASI), people aged over 60 account for 12 per cent of the country’s population, a figure expected to rise to 230 million, or 15 per cent of the population, by 2036. At the same time, India’s outbound travel market has crossed 30 million international departures, with senior travellers emerging as a growing segment.

Despite rising travel aspirations, most travel platforms continue to cater primarily to younger consumers, often overlooking the specific preferences and requirements of older adults. As a result, many senior travellers continue to depend on family members, travel agents, or fragmented planning processes when organising trips. Marzi aims to address this gap through its travel concierge offering.

How the platform works

Marzi’s travel concierge service combines technology and human support to assist adults aged 50 and above with travel planning and bookings. At the core of the offering is the company’s Gen EV Score framework, which evaluates recommendations based on factors such as comfort, accessibility, safety, convenience, and relevance.

The platform allows users to create customised itineraries, explore destinations, and review travel plans, while support teams assist with bookings, visa and documentation requirements, forex services, airport assistance, and other travel arrangements. In addition, Marzi’s Travel Mitr team provides on-call support before and during trips, helping travellers with queries related to transfers, airport movements, destinations, and other travel-related requirements.

Focus on personalised travel

Unlike conventional booking platforms that focus on standardised generic itineraries and bookings, Marzi’s travel concierge focuses on personalisation, comfort and ease, ensuring every trip booked by senior adults allows them the freedom, relaxation and joy of experiencing a destination, on their own terms.

Leadership comments

Commenting on the launch, Adarsh Narahari, Founder, Marzi said, “India’s affluent seniors are redefining what active aging looks like. They have spent their lives building successful careers and raising a family and now are ready to now explore the world and seek new experiences that enrich their lives. But most travel solutions continue to be designed for a younger audience. With Marzi’s travel concierge, we have created a category – first offering that combines AI Powered planning combined with accessible human expertise, to deliver a more intuitive, and relevant travel experience. Our vision is to become the most trusted travel companion for ‘Generation Evergreen’ in India.”

Vibha Singal, co-founder, Marzi added, “We believe ageing is not about slowing down but creating new opportunities to stay engaged with life! One of the strongest traits of ‘Generation Evergreen’ is their rightful desire to remain independent and make choices on their own terms. And travel, like all other aspects, is often a reflection of this. Our travel concierge services have been designed to provide all the guidance and support to senior adults while ensuring that their right to choose remains at the core of the process. And this is true not only about our travel services but about Marzi as an initiative. We strive to ensure active and affluent seniors are empowered to build a lifestyle that is based on choice, comfort and self-reliance.”
