Social Enterprise ‘The GALLERY’ Helps Communities and Preserves Thai Culture

Connecting local artisans with a broader audience, The GALLERY offers meaningful products such as silks, accessories, hand-painted décor, ceramics, children’s toys and much more. 

All profits from The GALLERY support scholarships for art and design students to ultimately help communities in need and safeguard Thai culture, particularly the skills indigenous to over 302 communities across Thailand. Hyderabad, March 2026: SOCIAL, the neighbourhood café-bar known for blending culture, community, and high-energy experiences, is marking Women’s Day with a two-day, pan-India celebration designed exclusively for women.

On 7th March, starting 7:00 PM, select SOCIAL outlets across Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Kolkata and  Bangalore will host She-nanigans @ SOCIAL; a women-only karaoke takeover created in partnership with contemporary jewellery brand Palmonas. Sikkim breaks ground for Hyatt Regency Spa & Casino in Central Gangtok, adds 150 Luxury Rooms to Boost High-Value & MICE Tourism

Gangtok, March, 2026: In a decisive move to deepen Sikkim’s premium hospitality infrastructure and position Gangtok as a high-value tourism, wedding and MICE destination, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) today laid the foundation stone for Hyatt Regency Gangtok, a landmark 150-room five-star hotel coming up in the heart of the capital city, during a formal ceremony held at Chintan Bhawan.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) said, “This Foundation Stone is a symbol of trust, partnership, and the bright future, we are building together in our beautiful Himalayan state, Sikkim. At the onset, I warmly congratulate the SM Group and Poddar Group for their visionary initiative and for placing their confidence in Sikkim.Hon’ble Chief Minister also extended his sincere appreciation to the leadership of Hyatt for choosing Gangtok as a destination for their prestigious global brand

He added, “Tourism is a vital pillar of our economy and a lifeline for thousands of families. The flow of visitors to our state consistently exceeds more than double our population, reflecting Sikkim's growing implication as a preferred destination. Located in the Mintokgang area within the Suryavilas mixed-use development, the hotel site is strategically positioned just 2 km from MG Marg, within close proximity to major tourist landmarks including Enchey Monastery and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and along SH-310, the key arterial road leading to Nathu La Pass, ensuring seamless accessibility for both leisure and business travellers.

With Gangtok recording over 17 lakh tourist arrivals in 2025, including more than 71,000 foreign visitors, the State has witnessed consistent year-on-year growth driven by improved connectivity and reopening of key tourist circuits. Sikkim currently has the capacity to host approximately 42,000–45,000 tourists per day, and the addition of 150 luxury rooms in the city centre is expected to attract higher-spending domestic and international travellers.

The 150-room hotel will be developed within a larger 3.27-acre master planned site and is designed to address the existing demand-supply gap in the luxury segment, particularly within the city centre where premium inventory remains limited.

The project will be developed by Gyalshing Hotels Private Limited, an SPV under SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd, the hospitality arm of SM Developers. While speaking on the project, Mr. Vikas Agarwal, MD & CEO, SM Developers, said, “This development marks a significant milestone for Sikkim’s hospitality landscape. Designed by SCSY Studio, Singapore to global standards, the hotel will offer experiential luxury, premium culinary offerings, and modern event infrastructure. We are confident it will emerge as the preferred destination for discerning travellers, corporate delegations, and international visitors exploring the Eastern Himalayas.”

The hotel will feature a 180-cover all-day dining restaurant with alfresco seating, a specialty restaurant, bar and lounge, Regency Club, a temperature-controlled outdoor swimming pool, a 3,000 sq. ft. spa, gymnasium, family activity zones, and approximately 13,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting and event spaces, positioning it as a key anchor for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism in the Eastern Himalayas. The integrated development will also include a licensed casino facility, further strengthening Gangtok’s positioning in high-value tourism and regulated entertainment hospitality.

With large-format event infrastructure integrated into the project, the hotel is also expected to support festival tourism, conventions, destination weddings, cultural showcases, and corporate summits, thereby enabling Gangtok to evolve into a year-round events destination aligned with national initiatives such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0.

The project is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment, strengthen local supply chains across agriculture and services, and catalyse allied sectors including transport, handicrafts, and cultural tourism.

Beyond hosting, Indian women travelers are also increasingly shaping travel trends on Airbnb. Duo travel followed by small group trips remained the most popular trip type amongst Indian women travelers. In terms of destinations, internationally Dubai, London, Bangkok, Paris, Ubud, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Rome were the most searched destinations for Indian women travelers in 2025. Domestically, North and South Goa, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Jaipur, Gurugram, and Pune District were the most searched destinations.

Beyond established hotspots, women travellers are increasingly exploring emerging and culturally rich destinations. Dakshina Kannada and Mathura both recorded approximately 50% year-on-year increase in bookings, signalling rising interest in spiritual, heritage and nature-led travel. Internationally, the town of Kazbegi in Georgia recorded an over 100% year-on-year increase in bookings on Airbnb.

This growing momentum toward emerging and off-beat destinations reflects a broader shift among women travellers toward more intentional, experience-led journeys,  where travel not only creates personal memories but also supports local communities and smaller tourism ecosystems.

Airbnb has also been working to strengthen this ecosystem through initiatives such as the Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy in Goa, the first of its kind in India. The program equips aspiring homestay entrepreneurs with skills in hospitality, business fundamentals and sustainable hosting, with a dedicated focus on empowering women and supporting rural communities. Many of the organizations in India receiving donations from the Airbnb Community Fund this year also work to advance opportunities for women.

Open to all, the session invites attendees to bring their own mats and begin their morning with a calming practice by the sea. The yoga session will commence at 8:00 a.m. on 8th March, offering a mindful start to the day in a serene beachfront setting.

Amber offers 22 thoughtfully designed rooms, including 20 Superior Rooms of 280 sq. ft. each and two spacious Family Rooms spanning 552 sq. ft. The accommodations are tailored for solo travelers, couples, and families, ensuring comfort-led stays in a modern setting.
