Hushpitality Rising: Agoda Insights Point to a Growing Appetite for Slower Travel in India

India, June 2026 - Digital travel platform Agoda has recorded a rise in travel interest across a cluster of destinations in India’s Himalayan region, with Dharamshala, Rishikesh and Uttarkashi all witnessing year-on-year growth in accommodation searches. The increase reflects a growing preference among travelers for quieter, slower-paced holidays, with more people seeking peaceful alternatives to crowded tourist destinations, a movement increasingly referred to as ‘hushpitality’.

The preference for slower, quieter escapes is also reflected in Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook report, which found that relaxation was the primary motivation for travel among 67% of Indian respondents. Against this backdrop, the growing interest in these destinations points to an evolving mindset where travelers are reassessing what a meaningful holiday looks like. Increasingly, the answer involves distance from urban noise, proximity to nature, and the kind of unhurried pace that crowded tourist hotspots rarely afford.

Dharamshala recorded a 154% year-on-year increase in accommodation searches. This quaint hill town has long attracted travelers drawn to its Tibetan Buddhist culture, meditation centers and scenic forest trails. Rishikesh follows closely, recording a 65% increase in accommodation searches compared to the same period last year. Situated along the banks of the Ganga, this town in Uttarakhand is known for its yoga traditions, wellness retreats and ashram stays. Search interest for both these destinations is led by domestic travelers, alongside inbound interest from the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, and the UAE among other countries.

Another emerging destination in the state of Uttarakhand is Uttarkashi, which registered a 17% year-on-year increase in accommodation searches. This hill station appeals to travelers looking to travel and plan more deliberately in exchange for a more unmediated experience of mountain terrain. International searches for this destination include South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Nepal among others.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands, Agoda said, “Indian travelers are increasingly looking for holidays that allow them to slow down and disconnect from the pace of everyday urban life. Destinations such as Dharamshala, Rishikesh and Uttarkashi are attracting interest because they offer a different kind of travel experience centered on time, space and simplicity. At Agoda, we aim to make these experiences more accessible by helping travelers find the right stay at the right price.”

Agoda provides access to over 6 million holiday properties across price points and property types, alongside more than 130,000 flight routes and over 300,000 activities that can be booked together in one place. Travelers can explore multiple options across any destination on the Agoda mobile app or visit Agoda.com for more information.

From Dining Tables to Meaningful Connections - The Supper Club Mumbai celebrates one year of building community over food and storytelling

Mumbai, June 2026: A culinary melting pot with a plethora of dining options, Mumbai demands more than just a great menu to immerse food and experience aficionados. Curating experiences that people remember for long defines success. Learning the pulse of Mumbaikars and experience-driven people from around the world in the city, over the past year, The Supper Club Mumbai, founded by culinary entrepreneur Chef Rajshri Gupta, has struck the right chords.  The Supper Club Mumbai has transcended intimate meals into immersive experiences celebrating food, nostalgia, human connection, and culture.

Celebrating its first anniversary, The Supper Club Mumbai underscores that success is not about unveiling a unique dining concept, but serving consumers longing for intimate, authentic, and immersive storytelling.

The Supper Club Mumbai was envisioned as the bridge between food and conversations on India’s cultural diversity that ultimately brings the larger country together. With a year passed, the initiative has hosted innumerable food enthusiasts, creators, and culture seekers with Chef Rajshri’s mindful curation of regional Indian cuisines, seasonal produce, heritage recipes, and the tales behind them.

A key aspect of the platform's journey is to showcase the forgotten culinary heritage, especially those from Karnataka. The Yele Oota experiences present Chef Rajshri’s specially curated regional flavours, age-old serving styles, and cultural significance that cannot be easily found even in leading dining outlets across the city. Every gathering ignites nostalgia and thoughtful conversations on food, diversity, and tradition.

The anniversary also marks an important milestone in Chef Rajshri Gupta’s entrepreneurial journey. A contributor writer for Hospitality Horizon Magazine, she transitioned from food journalism to building a hospitality firm focused entirely on experience-led dining and cultural storytelling."  Her belief that food experiences must be about coming together, spending quality time over immersive cultural conversations, and about traditional education around ingredients eventually led Chef Rajshri to the creation of The Supper Club Mumbai.

Sharing about the journey, Chef Rajshri Gupta said, "When The Supper Club Mumbai was founded, I never envisioned just serving food but to create a space where people could unwind, share their unique experiences, absorb the cultural value, and connect around a table. With a year gone by, I've seen strangers turn into friends, forgotten food traditions driving conversations, and dining experiences evolve into meaningful memories. In the coming times, I look forward to continuing to curate immersive experiences while bringing people closer together through food."

The Supper Club Mumbai’s anniversary is rightly timed with experiential dining picking up pace and a key driving segment in the hospitality sector. Consumers today are increasingly seeking experiences filled with personal engagement and cultural relevance. Looking forward, Chef Rajshri plans to expand the platform's range of regional culinary experiences and collaborate with artisans, storytellers, and cultural practitioners.

Beyond The Bucket List: 5 Offbeat Destinations Shaping Summer Travel in 2026

Ever noticed how the moment a destination goes viral, it starts feeling a little less like a discovery? This summer, travelers are swapping crowded bucket-list hotspots for places that still feel like hidden finds. According to Skyscanner's latest Smarter Summer Report, 81% of Indian travelers are open to visiting lesser-known destinations, while 88% like the idea of going somewhere that hasn't already filled their social feeds.

While travelers are still eager to take summer trips, many are looking beyond traditional hotspots in search of places that feel more personal, less crowded and better value. From riverside cafés and rainforest trails to local markets and island escapes, these destinations offer a different kind of summer trip, one built around spontaneity, local experiences and places that still feel relatively untouched by mass tourism.

As travelers continue to seek destinations, the appeal of going beyond the usual bucket list is only growing. Whether it's a rainforest escape in Tanzania, a waterfall-filled monsoon break in Jharkhand or a quieter corner of Thailand's coastline, these destinations prove that some of the most memorable trips are often the ones that haven't gone viral yet.

Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

While Kilimanjaro is best known for its iconic summit routes, travelers are increasingly drawn to the slower experiences surrounding it - from rainforest trails and coffee farm visits to evenings spent at local camps beneath clear night skies. For adventure travelers looking to combine nature, culture, and a sense of escape, Kilimanjaro delivers a side of East Africa that feels both immersive and rewarding.

If Kilimanjaro has been sitting on your travel Wishlist for a while, Skyscanner’s ‘Whole Month’ search tool can help travelers compare fares across different dates and uncover cheaper travel options during the season.

  • Delhi [DEL] to Kilimanjaro [JRO] starts at INR 45,246*

  • Mumbai [BOM] to Kilimanjaro [JRO] starts at INR 38,556

  • Bangalore [BLR] to Kilimanjaro [JRO] starts at INR 44,959

Luang Prabang, Laos

Luang Prabang continues to stand out for travelers looking for slower, culture-led escapes in Southeast Asia. Mornings begin with the city’s traditional alms-giving ceremony (Tak Bat), while evenings unfold around riverside cafés, bustling night markets, and quiet walks along the Mekong River. Blending Buddhist heritage, French colonial influences, and a laidback atmosphere, the city offers the kind of travel experience best explored without overplanning every moment.

Its unhurried pace makes it particularly appealing for travelers looking to slow down and spend more time connecting with local culture rather than ticking off packed itineraries.

  • Delhi [DEL] to Luang Prabang (LPQ) starts at INR 23,253*

  • Mumbai [BOM] to Luang Prabang (LPQ) starts at INR 28,974

  • Bangalore [BLR] to Luang Prabang (LPQ) starts at INR 27,103

Rayong, Thailand

If Thailand's famous beach towns feel a little too familiar, Rayong offers a quieter alternative. Think seafood markets, uncrowded beaches, and island-hopping days that move at a much slower pace, the destination is ideal for travelers looking to slow down and explore Thailand beyond the usual party circuits. From long coastal drives to fruit markets filled with tropical produce, Rayong delivers a more relaxed version of a summer beach holiday.

Travelers planning a multi-stop Thailand itinerary can also use Skyscanner's Mix & Match feature to compare different airline combinations and build more flexible journeys.

  • Mumbai [BOM] to Rayong [UTP] starts at INR 31,268

Siem Reap, Cambodia

While Angkor Wat (Cambodia’s iconic UNESCO World Heritage temple complex and one of the world’s most recognized ancient landmarks) remains Siem Reap’s biggest draw, travelers are increasingly exploring the city beyond its famous temples. From creative cafés and boutique galleries to night markets and local performances like the Phare Circus, Siem Reap blends culture, creativity, and nightlife in a way that feels both energetic and easygoing. For travelers looking to combine sightseeing with slower cultural experiences, the city offers plenty to discover beyond its iconic landmarks.

Jeju, South Korea

Often overshadowed by South Korea's major cities, Jeju offers a slower and more nature-led way to experience South Korea. Travelers can spend their days walking on coastal trails, exploring volcanic landscapes, browsing local markets, and lingering in seaside cafés overlooking the ocean. From sunrise hikes up Seongsan Ilchulbong to scenic drives along the island's coastline, Jeju rewards travelers who prefer discovery over packed itineraries. With many of Jeju's top attractions spread across the island, Skyscanner's car hire search makes it easy to compare rental options and explore Jeju at your own pace.

The city is a combination of outdoor adventure, local culture, and laidback island charm that makes it particularly appealing for travelers looking to swap crowded city breaks for a more relaxed summer escape.

Fireback & Barback open at The Loft, Hyderabad

EHV International makes its South Indian Debut

National,  June 2026 — Following the successful launches of FIREBACK restaurants in Goa and Mumbai, EHV International, the company behind genre-defining concepts like Indian Accent, Comorin, HOSA and Chor Bizarre, now brings Fireback and Barback to Hyderabad at The Loft, HITEC City, marking the group's debut in South India.

Named after Thailand's striking national bird, the Siamese Fireback, the restaurant is a tribute to the theatrics and fire-grilled boldness that define traditional Thai kitchens. At its helm is legendary Chef David Thompson, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost authorities on Thai cuisine. As Culinary Director of Fireback, Chef Thompson brings authenticity to shaping a menu that could well be seen in a leading restaurant in Bangkok. Veteran Asian specialist Chef Kaustubh Haldipur is the Brand Chef of Fireback.

You enter Fireback in Hyderabad through BARBACK, a cocktail bar inspired by the late-night spirit of Bangkok's Chinatown. Conceived as a seamless extension of Fireback, together the two venues bring the energy, flavour and spirit of Thailand to South India.

At Fireback, the experience begins with bold, textural small plates like the Miang Kham, a betel leaf bundle layered with pomelo, toasted coconut and roasted peanuts. The Pineapple som tam, a sweetsour reimagination of papaya salad with tamarind, palm sugar and peanuts, delivers both familiarity and surprise. For something plant-forward, the Pumpkin and sweet potato, glazed in gorlae sauce and fire-grilled, is surprisingly rich in depth and texture. Larger plates include the uncompromising Jungle curry of grilled pork, featuring house-made chilli paste, turmeric and deep-fried shallots. The Red curry with soft-shell crab, fragrant with ginger and lime leaves, offers a moment of richness and indulgence. For comfort and contrast, the Classic Thai Omelette and Green curry deliver familiarity, each elevated with restraint and technical finesse.

Speaking about Fireback, Chef David Thompson, Culinary Director said, "Thai cooking is not simply about heat or spice: it is about the delicate interplay of flavours, textures and aromas that combine to create a complete experience. Fireback celebrates the richness of Thailand’s culinary heritage while allowing each dish to display clarity and purpose. As Fireback comes to Hyderabad, we hope guests discover and enjoy the depth, elegance, and diversity that define authentic Thai cooking."

At Barback, Chef Kaustubh’s menu takes cues from the energy of Bangkok's Chinatown, where bold flavours, smoky cooking and late-night dining culture come together. The experience begins with bar bites and nibbles such as Crispy Lotus Root Chips and Prawn Toast with Sesame and Hot Mustard, before moving into small plates like Chilli Oil Dumplings and Chongqing Tofu. Seafood-forward dishes such as Citrus Chilli Seabass sit alongside favourites including Black Pepper Chicken and Lamb Meatball Skewers, each designed for sharing over cocktails. Larger plates and comfort dishes include Street Wok Fried Rice, Claypot Glass Noodles, Mapo Tofu and Butter Pepper Prawns, bringing together the wok-fired intensity and vibrant flavours that define the menu.

Complementing the kitchen is an equally thoughtful beverage programme crafted by EHV International's Head of Bars, Varun Sharma. Inspired by the flavours and ingredients of Southeast Asia, the cocktail menu layers familiar formats with ingredients such as pandan, yuzu, kaffir lime, coconut, mango, lemongrass and tamarind to create drinks that feel vibrant, nuanced and highly drinkable. Highlights include the Tom Yum Gimlet, combining gin with lemongrass, ginger-guava cordial, kaffir lime and chilli; and the Pandan Negroni, which brings together gin, pandan, coconut and sweet vermouth in a tropical reimagining of the classic. The Mango Rice offers a playful nod to one of Asia's most beloved desserts, blending rum, mango and rice cordial, while the Perilla Spritz combines perilla oil-washed gin, orange liqueur and yuzu cordial for a bright, refreshing serve. Richer, more indulgent creations such as the Soy & Mango, featuring aged rum, white rum, miso and mango, sit alongside refreshing signatures like the Rose Rickey, made with vodka, rose, lime leaf and pineapple fino.

Designed to complement both the food and the energy of the space, the cocktail programme captures the spirit of Bangkok after dark — bold, expressive and deeply social. Kevin Rodrigues, Head of Wines, EHV International, has curated a list of aromatic, fruit-forward wines with a hint of sweetness — ideal for balancing the spice and complexity of Thai cuisine. A wide selection of wines by the glass encourages guests to explore and discover pairings that elevate every bite.

Fireback - Architectural services have been provided by Incubis Consultants (India). The interiors have been designed by London based Russell Sage Studio (UK) under the direction of EHV’s Director of Design, Rashmi Khattar, with end-to-end project management by Director of Development, Vikas Bhasin. The design presents a seamless fusion of tradition and modernity. Fireback embodies the warmth, energy, and authenticity of Thai culture, reimagined through a sustainable and contemporary lens. The space combines a grounded material palette with clean aesthetics and subtle oriental influences, creating an atmosphere that is both sophisticated and inviting.

Barback - Conceived as a seamless extension of Fireback, the two spaces flow naturally into one another — allowing guests to begin the evening with regional Thai cuisine at Fireback before the night gradually transitions into Barback: louder, smokier, more intimate and more nocturnal. With just a partial physical divider between the two spaces, the experience is designed to feel fluid and immersive — dinner evolving organically into cocktails, music and late-night conversation. The design language is warm, intimate and atmospheric. Rich burgundy tones, soft gold detailing and layered textures create a mood that evolves through the evening. As the night deepens, lighting softens and reflects subtly off metallic finishes throughout the space, while Afro house-inspired music gradually shifts the energy of the room without overpowering conversation.

Speaking about EHV International’s entry into South India, Rohit Khattar, Founder Chairman, said, "Hyderabad has emerged as one of India’s most exciting culinary destinations, with an audience that deeply appreciates quality, innovation and hospitality. It was a natural choice for our first venture in South India. With Fireback, we are bringing approachable, authentic Thai cuisine to the city, while Barback introduces a completely new cocktail-led experience inspired by Bangkok’s Chinatown. Together, they represent our vision of creating destinations where food, beverage and atmosphere come together seamlessly. We hope Hyderabad enjoys both concepts, which have found their home in The Loft, a beautiful building owned and designed by the terrific RMZ into an expansive, social, cultural, and premium workspace hub unlike any other in the city.”

Experiences Are Winning: Why Hospitality Stands at the Centre of India's Next Consumer Boom

For decades, consumer spending was largely defined by ownership. The bigger house, the newer car, the latest gadget—success was often measured by what people possessed.

Today, that equation is changing.

Across India and the Asia-Pacific region, consumers are increasingly choosing memories over material possessions, experiences over products, and stories over status symbols. According to recent CBRE data, spending on experiences in India is projected to grow at a 10.3% CAGR between 2025 and 2030, surpassing the growth rate of spending on physical goods, which is expected to expand at 9.1%.

For the hospitality industry, this shift is more than a trend. It represents a fundamental restructuring of consumer behaviour—and one that places hotels at the heart of the experience economy.

The New Luxury: Living, Not Owning

The rise of the experience economy reflects broader societal changes.

Consumers, particularly younger generations, are placing greater value on personal enrichment, wellness, travel, culture, community, and self-expression. Experiences are increasingly viewed not as discretionary purchases but as essential investments in quality of life.

A weekend retreat, a culinary journey, a wellness escape, or a culturally immersive stay now carries emotional value that often exceeds the appeal of another physical purchase.

This evolution is especially visible among younger travellers who prioritise authenticity, individuality, and meaningful connections over traditional luxury markers.

Hotels Lead the Growth Story

Among all experiential categories, hotel accommodation is expected to be the fastest-growing segment, with CBRE forecasting a 10.6% CAGR through 2030.

This is significant because it highlights how hotels are no longer viewed simply as places to sleep. Increasingly, they serve as destinations, social hubs, wellness centres, cultural platforms, and lifestyle ecosystems.

Guests today seek experiences that extend beyond room amenities. They want local stories, personalised service, curated dining, wellness offerings, community engagement, and design that reflects a sense of place.

The most successful hospitality brands are responding by creating environments where the stay itself becomes the attraction.

Gen Z Is Reshaping Hospitality

A major force behind this transformation is Generation Z.

Now the largest demographic bloc across Asia-Pacific, Gen Z is entering its prime spending years and bringing a distinctly different set of expectations to the market.

Unlike previous generations, Gen Z travellers are highly experience-oriented. They actively seek discovery, individuality, and social connection. They value brands that align with their identity and are quick to reward businesses that offer authenticity and purpose.

For hotels, this means designing experiences that are memorable, shareable, and meaningful rather than simply luxurious.

The traditional hospitality playbook focused on standardisation and predictability. The new playbook prioritises uniqueness, storytelling, flexibility, and emotional engagement.

The Rise of Lifestyle Hotels

Perhaps the clearest evidence of this shift is the growth of lifestyle hotels.

Across Asia-Pacific, lifestyle hotel supply expanded at a remarkable 19% CAGR between 2015 and 2025. By comparison, the broader hotel market grew at approximately 5% annually during the same period.

Lifestyle hotels occupy a space between traditional luxury and conventional accommodation. They are often design-led, experience-driven, locally inspired, and deeply connected to culture and community.

Rather than selling rooms, they sell a way of living—even if only for a few days.

From curated food and beverage concepts to locally rooted experiences and distinctive design narratives, lifestyle hotels create emotional connections that resonate strongly with modern travellers.

Their rapid expansion across the region suggests that developers, operators, and investors increasingly view the segment as one of hospitality's most attractive growth opportunities.

India's Opportunity Is Just Beginning

Despite the momentum seen elsewhere in Asia-Pacific, India's lifestyle hotel segment remains relatively underpenetrated.

That gap may prove to be one of the industry's most compelling opportunities over the next decade.

India possesses many of the ingredients necessary for lifestyle hospitality to flourish: a young population, rising disposable incomes, rich cultural diversity, growing domestic tourism, and a rapidly expanding middle class eager to spend on experiences.

As consumer preferences continue to evolve, developers have an opportunity to create differentiated hospitality products that move beyond traditional hotel formats.

Investors, meanwhile, may find substantial upside in a segment that is still in its early stages of development compared to regional peers.

Beyond Rooms: Building Experience Ecosystems

The future of hospitality will likely be defined not by inventory but by experience design.

Hotels that succeed will be those that understand how guests want to feel, not simply what they want to buy.

Whether through wellness, gastronomy, culture, adventure, community, or sustainability, the industry's next phase of growth will come from creating meaningful moments that guests remember long after checkout.

The numbers suggest the direction is clear.

As experiences continue to outpace products in consumer spending, hospitality is uniquely positioned to capture a larger share of that wallet—and perhaps more importantly, a larger share of people's lives.

For an industry built on creating memories, the experience economy may be the greatest opportunity yet.

Why a new generation of travellers is choosing lifestyle hotels

A new CBRE report highlights how experience-led travel, evolving consumer preferences and Gen Z spending habits are accelerating the growth of lifestyle hotels.

The spending by Indians on experiences – recreational and cultural activities, restaurants, hotels, and travel – is expected to outpace the spending on physical goods between 2025 and 2030, according to a report titled “Gen Z Checks In: The Rise of the Lifestyle Hotel” released by world’s leading real estate services and investment firm CBRE. The expenditure on hotel accommodation is expected to grow even faster, making it one of the most dynamic consumer spending categories in the country.

An analysis of Oxford Economics data by CBRE Research projected that household expenditure by Indians on physical goods is likely to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% between 2025 and 2030. However, broader experiential spending is forecast to grow at a higher 10.3% CAGR over the same period. The spending on hotel accommodation is expected to grow at an even sharper 10.6% CAGR.

The report noted that the shift towards experiences was fundamentally accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Pent-up demand and a desire to make up for lost time have been driving the trend since 2022.

Gen Z driving the shift

The trend is being primarily driven by Generation Z, which currently accounts for the largest demographic bloc across the Asia Pacific region. As Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, achieve financial independence, their spending is forecast to expand faster than any other living generation, according to the report.

It added that Gen Z travelers demand striking, curated design environments that double as social media backdrops, personalized service that avoids corporate predictability, and activated communal spaces that host experiences such as wine tastings, acoustic performances, and local cultural events.

Wellness integration is equally non-negotiable, with seamless technology from self-check-in to smart-room automation, now firmly an expectation rather than differentiation.

Emergence of lifestyle hotels

According to CBRE, a new category of property, the lifestyle hotel, has emerged as the industry’s answer to this generational demand. Unlike boutique hotels or global chains, these hotels occupy a middle ground: the design and local character of an independent property, backed by the operational scale, distribution networks, and loyalty programs of an institutional brand.

Between 2015 and 2025, the overall hotel supply across the Asia Pacific region grew at a steady 5% CAGR. However, lifestyle hotels grew at 19% over the same period. Now till 2030, the supply of lifestyle hotels is projected to maintain a 10% CAGR, five times the 2% growth forecast for the broader hotel market.

Moreover, this growth is backed by clear pricing power. The report highlighted that in 2025, upper upscale lifestyle hotels across Asia Pacific commanded a 13% revenue per available room (RevPAR) premium over traditional properties in the same category. Upscale lifestyle brands added a further 7% premium, achieving this despite smaller room sizes by generating stronger food and beverage revenues and running leaner operations.

In India, the penetration of lifestyle hotels remains low as compared to markets like Singapore and Hong Kong. That gap is increasingly being read by developers and investors as an opportunity.

Industry perspectives

“The contemporary consumer no longer just purchases lodging but wants unique, culturally immersive, and digitally shareable environments,” said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO – India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE. “This structural shift towards experiential consumption is an enduring macroeconomic trend. For property owners and institutional investors, the lifestyle hotel segment represents a compelling double-win: measurable RevPAR and ADR premiums over standardized assets, and a capital-efficient conversion pathway that maximizes long-term asset value.”

Ada Choi, CFA – Head of Research, Asia Pacific, CBRE, said, “The experience economy is not a trend but a structural reset. The hospitality sector in the APAC region is at an exciting point in this journey. In India specifically, rising incomes, a maturing Gen Z consumer base, and a significant undersupply of lifestyle hospitality product are converging to create one of the most attractive investment environments in the region.”

The investment opportunity

According to CBRE, developers are increasingly turning to existing properties rather than building from scratch, given the rising land costs and construction expenses. Older, independent, unbranded hotels – of which India has a significant stock – are being converted and repositioned as lifestyle properties, often at a fraction of the cost of new development.

The smaller asset transactions are also dominating market liquidity. Assets valued under $100 million grew from 31% of total hotel investment volume across Asia Pacific in 2020 to 42% by 2025, with roughly 30% of traded assets comprising independent hotels ripe for repositioning.

To capitalize on the opportunity, CBRE suggested that developers adopt a market-specific approach, identifying local white spaces, prioritizing design flexibility to preserve future exit optionality, and activating public spaces and food and beverage concepts as community-facing amenities that serve transient guests and local neighborhood demand alike.

Cygnett Marks 12 Years of Growth, Surpasses 4,000 Keys; Wyndham Alliance Powers Journey to 100+ Hotels by 2030

New Delhi, June 2026: Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has completed 12 years of operations, marking a milestone in its evolution from a regional hospitality company into a national hotel management platform with more than 4,000 operational and under-development keys across over 41 destinations in India.

What began in 2014 with the belief that India’s next wave of hospitality growth would emerge beyond metropolitan cities has today evolved into a portfolio of 45 operational hotels and resorts spanning business destinations, leisure markets, pilgrimage centres, and emerging tourism hubs.

At a time when much of the industry remained focused on established gateway cities, Cygnett chose to build its presence in Tier II and Tier III markets and the North East—regions that have since witnessed rapid infrastructure development, improving connectivity and rising travel demand. The company was among the early branded hospitality players to establish a presence in destinations such as Ayodhya and several cities across the North East, anticipating long-term opportunities in these markets well before they entered mainstream hospitality conversations.

Today, Cygnett operates across multiple segments through brands including Cygnett Hotels, Cygnett Park, Cygnett Inn, Cozzet, Cygnett Resort/Retreat and Anamore, its luxury Upper Upscale hospitality platform catering to experiential and upscale travel.

As it enters its next phase of growth, the company is accelerating its expansion through a robust pipeline of hotels and resorts expected to open over the next 24 to 30 months. Upcoming projects are spread across high-growth destinations including Pushkar, Jaipur, Kasauli-Kiarighat, Srinagar, Goa, Sonapur, Guwahati, Itanagar, Jim Corbett, Gurugram, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chail, Ujjain, Panvel, Murud, Tirupati, Vrindavan, Tawang, Motihari, Dhanbad and Kharagpur, among others.

A defining chapter in Cygnett’s growth journey has been its strategic alliance with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company by number of hotels. Through this partnership, Cygnett is integrating global distribution capabilities, international sales reach and access to Wyndham Rewards®, one of the world’s largest hotel loyalty programmes with more than 122 million enrolled members globally.

The collaboration is also reshaping the company’s brand architecture. All upcoming hotels and resorts under development are planned to operate under Wyndham-affiliated brands, including Cygnett Hotels™, Cygnett Park™, Cygnett Inn™ and Cozzet™ under Trademark Collection® by Wyndham, alongside Anamore® and Anamore Select® under Registry Collection Hotels® by Wyndham and La Quinta® by Wyndham. The move is expected to significantly enhance international visibility, strengthen distribution and create long-term value for hotel owners and investors.

Several Cygnett properties have already been integrated into the Trademark Collection® by Wyndham portfolio, including hotels in Jaipur, Itanagar, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Bhubaneswar and Ayodhya, enabling them to benefit from Wyndham’s global reservation ecosystem while retaining their local identity.

Commenting on the milestone, Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, said, "When we started Cygnett twelve years ago, we were convinced that India's hospitality growth story would increasingly be shaped by emerging cities and untapped destinations. The North East, pilgrimage centres and regional markets offered immense potential, and our strategy was built around participating in this transformation long before it became an industry trend."

He further added, "As we enter the next phase of growth, our focus is on creating a globally connected hospitality platform rooted in regional India. Our partnership with Wyndham, expanding portfolio of brands and strong development pipeline position us well to capitalise on the evolving travel landscape and create long-term value for our stakeholders."

With India’s hospitality sector increasingly being driven by spiritual tourism, experiential travel, destination weddings and infrastructure-led commercial corridors, Cygnett believes the next decade of opportunity lies beyond traditional metropolitan markets. The company has set a target of surpassing 100 +hotels and 10,000+ keys by 2030, reinforcing its ambition to play a leading role in shaping the future of hospitality across India and South Asia.

Our initiatives are designed not only to promote destinations like Chikkamagaluru, Coorg, and Hampi, but also to highlight the spirit of collaboration that defines Karnataka’s tourism community. Together, we are charting a new course that blends heritage, nature, and innovation under the banner of ‘One State, Many Worlds.’”

With its coffee heritage, mist clad hills, waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, and cultural landmarks, the district offers a complete tourism experience that blends nature, heritage, and hospitality. What makes this region truly special is the warmth of its resorts and homestays, which embody Karnataka’s spirit of hospitality. By welcoming travelers from across India, we are not only showcasing Chikkamagaluru’s beauty but also strengthening the economic and cultural fabric of the region. Ingredient Ideology | The Art of Cooking Wonders Using Air Fryers by: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani, Celebrity Master Chef

Cooking trends in India have always evolved every few years, influenced by global methods and innovations. Post-pandemic, with health and immunity becoming priorities, air fryers emerged as a healthier alternative to deep frying.

What Is an Air Fryer?
An air fryer is a countertop appliance that uses a heating element and fan to circulate hot air, similar to a convection oven. Foods turn crispy outside and tender inside without actual frying. Philips introduced the first air fryer in 2010, and since then millions have been sold worldwide.

How Does an Air Fryer Work?
Air fryers use convection heat to brown and crisp food while keeping it moist inside. The Maillard reaction creates flavor and browning, giving results similar to deep frying but with minimal oil.

Success in India
Air fryers reduce oil usage, making fried snacks like samosa, aloo tikki, kulcha, and kachori healthier. Compact size suits small kitchens, though taste differences compared to deep frying remain.

Comfort in Cooking
Air fryers feature baskets and racks that allow hot air circulation at around 400°F. Some models include presets and digital controls for convenience.

Popular Foods Made in Air Fryer

  • French Fries

  • Chicken Fry / Koliwada Prawns

  • Paneer Kurkure

  • Baked Samosa

  • Aloo Tikki

  • Cookies / Nankhatai

  • Pizza

  • Air Fryer Chicken

  • Frozen Food

  • Bhajji / Pakora

Minus Points in India
Average size is 4L, too compact compared to OTG ovens. Batter-based items don’t taste the same as deep fried. Microwaves with slim fry options are preferred by many. Flavor-conscious consumers often remain unconvinced.

Recipes

1. Chatpati Aloo Tikkiya
Ingredients: Potatoes, peas, rice flour, turmeric, ginger-chilli paste, garam masala, coriander, oil.
Method: Steam potatoes, cook peas, mash with spices and flour. Shape patties, preheat air fryer at 200°C, air fry 7–8 mins, flip and cook 6 mins more. Serve with chutney.

2. Paneer Ka Kurkuredaar Snack
Ingredients: Paneer cubes, flour, chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, breadcrumbs, salt.
Method: Make batter, coat paneer, roll in breadcrumbs, refrigerate 10 mins. Air fry at 180°C for 8 mins, shake midway. Serve hot with chutney.

3. Murgh Alishan Fryer Snack
Ingredients: Chicken thighs, salt, pepper, buttermilk, eggs, flour, cajun spice, garlic, onion, paprika.
Method: Season chicken, dip in flour, buttermilk, flour again. Air fry at 180°C for 15–20 mins, spray oil, turn and cook 5–10 mins more.

4. Baked Khushnuma Samosa
Ingredients: Dough (flour, salt, oil), filling (paneer, cabbage, rajma, cheese, tomatoes, chilli flakes, peri peri, mayo).
Method: Prepare dough, mix filling, shape samosas, brush with oil. Air fry at 180°C for 15–17 mins. Serve hot.

5. Dilkhush Double Roti Stuffed Pockets
Ingredients: Sandwich bread, onion, corn, garlic, herbs, chilli flakes, mozzarella, pizza sauce, oil.
Method: Mix filling, soften bread slices with water, fill and fold, seal edges. Preheat air fryer at 180°C, cook 15 mins, brushing with oil midway. Serve hot.

Conclusion
Cooking is an art blending skill and creativity. While air fryers offer healthier options, traditional deep frying still holds its charm for authentic taste. Balance indulgence with exercise to manage health.

Happy Cooking!

Consistent performance

Of the total 28 winning resorts, 21 have been recognised for two consecutive years, while 12 have achieved a three-year winning streak. This sustained performance reinforces the strength of Sterling’s service standards and operating discipline across destinations and resort formats.
