Plant Based Food - Culinary workshop successfully organized at IHM Ranchi

Institute of Hotel Management Brambe, Ranchi in collaboration with Human Society International successfully organized the Plant Based Food Culinary workshop for students on 23 and 24 June 2020. The two days online workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi. The workshop was conducted by the owner of Bodhi Green Chef Varun Sharma.

The workshop focused on new plant based food products, innovative recipes and repurposed ingredients in line with paradigm shift taking place in global food Industry as healthier food. As recommended by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology the plant based food alternative and effects at culinary institutes is crucial to cater the increasing consumer demand for sustainable and ethically produced food. The workshop’s vision was to educate citizens on social and ethical concerns of the food industry especially the students who are the future of this industry, to ignite conversations about animal welfare and motivate them to make conscious food choices.

The recipe demonstrated during workshop by Chef Varun were Coconut Cream, Green Smoothie Soy/Peanut Yoghurt, Mango Banana Nice-Cream With Coconut Cream, No Bake Peanut Butter Cookies and Vegan Fried Chicken. Dr. Bhupesh & Chef Rajnish Singh of IHM Ranchi and Mr. Arnab & Mrs. Radhika C.Rao concluded the two days workshop with vote of thanks to Chef Varun and all the attendees. In his closing remarks Dr. Bhupesh Kumar said that the workshop was successful in sparking a sense of companion towards animal and the duty of students as citizens to help create a humane, sustainable food industry.

Delhi to transform 25 luxury hotels into Covid-19 care centres

Staff at luxury hotels in Delhi are to start welcoming guests not with traditional garlands but with a medical gown. Amid growing concerns that there are not enough hospital beds to cope with the rising number of cases, the Delhi government has become the first in the country to requisition its hotels. Each hotel will be linked with the nearest COVID-19 hospital.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has predicted that the capital needs 150,000 beds by the end of July when cases are estimated to rise to half a million

Hotel owners and management, already reeling from huge losses, are privately fuming, particularly as they were not consulted by the government on the decision to turn their facilities into hospitals or the 5,000 rupees (£53) per night tariff, inclusive of all meals, that has been fixed by the government.

Ganga Ram hospital seeks more time to convert Taj Mansingh hotel into COVID-19 facility

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has sought more time to convert the five-star Taj Mansingh Hotel into a coronavirus facility in order to increase the number of beds for patients in Delhi amid a spike in infections. It will take another 10 days for Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) to set up the COVID-19 facility at the hotel

The hospital is facing a staff crunch and will have to accommodate its staff for the COVID-19 facilities at the two hotels.

Welcomhotel Amritsar becomes Punjab's first LEED platinum certified hotel

ITC Hotels, which has been accorded with maximum LEED Platinum certified properties, has added another recognition to its name. The hospitality chain's leisure upper-upscale property Welcomhotel Amritsar has now been certified as LEED hotel.

Welcomhotel Amritsar met the coveted rating for energy efficiency by using 33% less energy, reducing the water consumption by 46%, developing rainwater harvesting capacity of 30% of the peak rainfall, and reducing the cooling demand with over 75% of roof area covered with high solar reflective index tiles.

Auckland hotel put into lockdown after report of new Covid-19 case

3 island resorts in Seychelles that have re-opened after COVID

Costa to Build Two New Ships

Delhi govt asks Taj Man Singh hotel to provide rooms for COVID-19 patients

The Delhi government directed the Taj Man Singh hotel to provide all its rooms to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with immediate effect for accommodating Covid-19 patients.

In addition to the Delhi government’s plans of using hotels, the Centre will provide 500 railway coaches to make up for the shortage of beds for Covid-19 patients in the city.

All services including rooms, food, housekeeping, and disinfection for the patients shall be provided by the hotel.

Helsinki hospitality startup Bob W raises €4 million for tech-enabled apartment hotels with custom sanitisation process

Bob W, a Helsinki-based hospitality startup, has raised €4 million in a seed round led by by Founders and joined by real estate investors NREP and Estonian firm Kaamos.

The Finnish startup offers an accommodation hybrid between hotels and short-stay apartments or hosted homes like Airbnb, which guests can rent nightly, weekly or monthly. 

 The hospitality company also touts its ‘Ridiculously Clean Standard’, a 63-step protocol to clean, sanitize, disinfect and seal every suite.
