Four Seasons Hotel Doha Opens Following Expansive Renovations

Four Seasons Hotel Doha is now open and welcoming its first guests following extensive renovations and a complete redesign by Pierre-Yves Rochon. The world-renowned interior designer has reshaped the property into an unmatched luxury destination at the center of Qatar’s capital city, with residential warmth and comfort that is further enhanced by the friendly and intuitive service that is reflective of Four Seasons hospitality.

The entrance has been enhanced with a grandiose door, reminiscent of grande dame entrances, and the Lobby has been redesigned as an open-plan space, allowing light to flood through the foyer as well as boasting views of the Arabian Gulf. The Lobby boasts an array of handmade and bespoke Italian furnishings, including a hand-blown glass chandelier that takes center stage and adorns the Lobby’s ceiling.

Set along the picturesque beachfront of the Arabian Gulf, and in close proximity to the cultural landmarks of Doha, the vast renovations span an entire redesign of the Hotel’s bedrooms, suites, guest floors, Lobby and dining outlets. The public areas have adopted a range of greens to evoke the feeling of a garden and new life.

In addition to offering Hermès amenities in all suites, and state-of-the-art technology. Pierre-Yves Rochon’s inspiration was the capital city itself, where the world of man and the beauty of nature meet. The redesigned rooms follow a soothing spectrum of blues and beiges reflecting the colors of Doha, where the sky, sea, sand, and earth come together and impart a more residential feeling.

As well as a complete redesign of the interiors, the Hotel introduces the expansion, as well as the redevelopment, of its diverse dining and lounge concepts. Arabica, located on the ground floor of the Hotel, returns with a contemporary new look and coffee and dessert bar. Bold and neutral in its color scheme, the space houses marble furniture that echoes the octagonal shape of the conservatory. This will be the destination of bespoke coffee, specializing in single-origin beans and a selection of reimagined takes on childhood favorites, including an ever-changing variety of doughnuts and cupcakes.

The re-opening of the Hotel also welcomes The Study, an outdoor bar and lounge concept, on a terrace adjoining the Library and Cigar Lounge – a city favorite that maintains its beloved classic features while also serving a selection of cocktails, each with their own story to tell. The Study is inspired by that of Ernest Hemingway as a place of thought and reflection and reflects the palm trees and the sea outdoors. This outdoor space is yet another addition to the Hotel’s unique variety of dining outlets.

The completion of further enhancements will be announced later in 2020 and will include the refurbishment of a space previously held by Il Teatro, which will relaunch with a brand new concept by a celebrated Michelin star chef.

In addition to the city’s burgeoning arts scene, it will continue to host the Qatar International Food Festival taking place from March 20 to 30, 2020. The multicultural festival celebrates the country's diverse food, beverage, and hospitality offerings as well as invites visitors to enjoy special culinary experiences in scenic outdoor spaces. Four Seasons Hotel Doha will host its very own celebration, World of Nobu, on March 25 and 26, 2020. Celebrating Chef Nobu’s long and personal journey to becoming a global sensation, nine head chefs from Nobu restaurants around the world, including himself, will unite for two days of gastronomic events.

Guests can enjoy 25 percent off the Hotel’s Room Rate when booking stays at least 21 days in advance.

Coronavirus: Hospitality industry losses 'in hundreds of thousands'

Northern Ireland pubs have lost hundreds of thousands of pounds while feeling the "pain" of the coronavirus crisis, an industry chief has claimed.

Hospitality Ulster head Colin Neill warned the fear must not "become bigger than the actual challenge".

He described the cancellation of one of Ireland's Six Nations rugby fixtures due to the virus as a blow to pubs.

There have been two confirmed cases of coronavirus on the island of Ireland, one on each side of the border.

  • The first person to test positive was a woman in Northern Ireland who had recently returned home from northern Italy.

  • The second was a male student who attends a Dublin secondary school that has since been closed for 14 days as part of the Republic's infection-control measures.

Worldwide, there have been almost 90,000 confirmed cases of the disease.

The number of people who have died after being diagnosed with Covid-19 has exceeded 3,000.

What we should do to prevent catching and spreading the virus?

  • Wash hands frequently with soaps and water or uses a sanitizer gel

  • Catch cough and sneezes with disposable tissue

  • Throw away used tissues

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

The Biggest Hospitality Trends of 2020

Seven hospitality design studios predict will be a ruling hotel and restaurant design

The environment is top of mind

An authentic—and results-driven—approach to sustainability in residential interior design, the hospitality world is taking its responsibility toward the planet equally as seriously Redesigning the structures and objects in our lives in direct response to climate change and in service to a healthier world, and it’s becoming the rule, not the exception Hotels are leveraging bigger design moves like carbon-neutral paint, biodegradable linens, and air-purifying sculptures, others are incorporating smaller gestures like water-saving showerheads and refillable carafes and water stations on each floor to replace plastic bottles. Others have slightly grander visions—resort brand Six Senses aims to be plastic-free by 2022 and is integrating sustainable initiatives like passive cooling, electric transport, and Earth Labs into each of its new properties

Designers are layering it on

With the eco-friendly ethos of reusing and repurposing, the experts predict that we’ll also be seeing a lot of layering in of vintage and recycled objects alongside new ones—a “mixology” of sorts, as Rockwell Group partner Shawn Sullivan, who recently designed the restaurant Chica in Miami, put it. “Rich environments are trending and achieved through a range of techniques—from layering multiple materials and patterns on patterns to mixing old and new with found objects,”

Self-care is front and center

“Right now, the world is full of noise pulling our attention in multiple directions at once,” Atelier Ace’s Sawdon says. “Hospitality seems to be moving toward creating grounding, holistic experiences for guests, providing them with mindfulness and elements of self-care.” “In 2020 designers should create ‘templates,’ designing in a way that leaves space for people to create their own experiences instead of having something forced upon them.”

We’re reevaluating our relationship with technology

As guests increasingly yearn for convenience and independence, much of the hotel experience has become digitized and executed via iPad or smartphone. “More integrated technology like self-check-in screens and self-check-out billing is limiting guests’ interaction with hotel staff

The Instagram “look” is over

The counter effect of hotels and restaurants clamoring to make their spaces as Instagrammable as possible is a swing in the other direction, toward what ASH NYC’s Cooper calls “decoration proper.” “The internet and social media have made copying and pasting ‘the look’—be it color blocking or eclectic modernism—so easy that I think we lose individuality and the ability to remember a place because they all look the same,”

The Future Leaders Programme: Opening A World Of Opportunity

IHG's graduate scheme aims to guide talented young leaders from supervisors to future business leaders. It's known as the 'IHG Future Leaders program'. Zak Muysken, a Future Leader graduate, shared about his experiences in IHG. Let’s talk it in brief :

Being Given The Room to Grow

The Future Leaders Programme offers direct one-on-one mentorship from a General Manager who’s there to support us the whole way through. Even though I’m initially a little daunted by the idea of starting this role in housekeeping, the training programs I underwent ensured my confidence in taking on any position within IHG’s hotels. I was shown how to do every role at every level: room service, looking after public areas, cleaning, supervising, and much more. This gave me a sound knowledge of each function’s specific role in a hotel setting.

Having The Freedom To Build My Own Leadership Style

Building my own leadership style is something that comes hand-in-hand with your training. In my training at IHG, I learned how to adapt to working with a range of different cultures and personalities. This training is vital as one leadership style may not translate to different departments and colleagues, so we need to find ways to adapt to different scenarios.

Contributing to IHG’s Strategic Direction

Through our Strategic Model, I focused on value-creation by building preferred brands, delivering a superior owner proposition, leveraging scale and generating revenue through the lowest-cost, direct channels

IHG: The Company to Kick-start Your Career

If we’re looking to climb the hospitality hierarchy quickly and fast-track your development as a hotelier, the Future Leaders Programme is a great place to start. The program trained me in key functions of hotel departments and allowed us to develop our understanding of what it’s like working in a multicultural team. I was given a supportive environment I needed to take key pieces of advice from our mentor and implement them in own way. I’m very lucky to travel to different countries and experience our ‘True Hospitality’ promise from a range of perspectives, and I feel that means me I bring a holistic and inclusive view to the table - making ous a rounded leader who’s proud to work for IHG.
